Today is R U OK? Day - a reminder that a simple conversation can make a big difference. Recent findings from the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide highlight how critical it is for us all to check in with each other, especially those who have served our country. Mental health isn't just the responsibility of health professionals—it's something we can all support. With the rise of #socialprescribing (connecting people to community services for better well-being), it's clear that mental health is everyone’s business. Let’s take the time not just today, but everyday, “Are you OK?” #RUOKDay #MentalHealth #Veterans #RoyalCommission #Defence

"Never was so much owed by so many to so few." - Winston Churchill The following stats are so sad. I pray that if anyone ever has the opportunity to improve these numbers, you take advantage of that. In the meantime, let's pray for our brave soldiers who endure so much for our freedom. 🇺🇸 41% of veterans were found to have a potential need for mental health care. 🇺🇸 In 2022, 5,966,000 veterans received health care at VA facilities. 🇺🇸 Less than half of veterans who need mental health treatment actually receive it. 🇺🇸 About 20% will abuse drugs and/or alcohol. 🇺🇸 Only 50% of those with PTSD seek treatment. 🇺🇸 Veterans are 22% more likely to commit suicide. May is Mental Health Awareness month. It is also Military Appreciation month. This is close to my heart as a mental health professional and a veteran. Did you know that over 30% of Iraq/Afghanistan vets suffer from mental health issues? Of that 30% only have receive any treatment at all? Asking for help is not a weakness. If you need someone, reach out. If you know someone, be the support they need to seek the help they need. #MentalHealthAwareness #MilitaryMentalHealth #Veterans
