Regional resilience and various aspects of security 💡 Spatial planning to address future challenges in densely and sparsely populated areas 🗺 Integration of different sectors and stakeholders 🔁 These and other aspects were discussed with examples from Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Germany. Now 𝐰𝐞𝐛𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫 𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲 and presentation of keynote Toni Ahlqvist (Finland Futures Research Centre (FFRC)) are available here: https://lnkd.in/d2xbChSE #SpatialPlanning #BalticSeaRegion
Last years proved most extreme regional development scenarios seen overly optimistic. Many challenges and consequences have been brought up to the #BalticSeaRegion at all levels. Coping with these challenges require immediate and flexible approach. #SpatialPlanning identified as a valuable mechanism through which an adaptation to various foreseeable & unpredictable needs and future scenarios can be facilitated. 📣 Join our webinar and discuss how spatial planning can foster the spatial resilience of the countries around the Baltic Sea and better prepare themselves for future challenges. Particularly for discussion: ⛑ How to take national security policy into account in spatial planning? ♻ Which questions are highlighted in spatial planning, how resilience can be taken into account on national, regional and local level spatial planning? 📊 Countries have their own characteristics, such as climate, location, transport systems, as well as the structure of the economy, energy supply and infrastructure. What is the impact of these characteristics? Facilitator of the webinar Janne Antikainen Director of Development, FCG Finnish Consulting Group Agenda, speakers and registration: https://lnkd.in/dHPyUCcd Organised by Finnish Chairmanship Ympäristöministeriö - Miljöministeriet - Ministry of the Environment of Finland of VASAB

The #WeMAST (Wetlands Monitoring and Assessment) project is a project funded under the Global Monitoring for Environment and Security (GMES) & Africa Support Programme between the #AfricaUnion and the #EuropeanUnion, in the area of space science & technology and a key priority under the EU-Africa partnership. GMES & Africa aims to promote development of local capacities, institutional, human and technical resources for access to and exploitation of Earth Observation (EO) based services on an operational basis for sustainable development in Africa. Today marks the beginning of a 3 day intense, fully packed workshop training on Earth Observation Products #Validation in Gaborone,Botswana. Earth Observation tools play a crucial role in monitoring climate change by providing comprehensive, real-time data on our planet's atmosphere, oceans, and land surfaces. These tools enable scientists to track key indicators such as temperature changes, ice melt, sea-level rise, and greenhouse gas concentrations with unprecedented accuracy. By offering a global perspective and detailed insights, Earth Observation tools help us understand the impacts of climate change, inform #policy decisions, and drive effective #mitigation and #adaptation strategies. Their contributions are essential for protecting ecosystems, communities, and future generations from the effects of a changing climate..and access to open source tools plays a vital role in enabling communities to contribute to the data collection, analysis and interpretation. SASSCAL.org #UniversityOfBotswana #SADCWaternet #MidlandStateUniversity #NationalRemoteSensingCentre The GMES and Africa Support Programme is funded jointly by the African Union and the European Union.

“A healthy ocean depends on healthy rivers – the ocean is suffering from the impact of land-based activities. (...) To receive all the benefits of a healthy ocean we need to generate interlinked knowledge and build bridges across scientific and practitioner communities to tackle the challenges holistically.” 🌊 says Gustav Thungren, Programme Manager, Water Cooperation & Diplomacy, SIWI. SIWI's #SourceToSea team is organizing a satellite event at the #OceanDecade Conference, in partnership with S2S Platform, Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML) , Global Water Partnership and UNESCO Ocean. This session aims to bring together #freshwater and #ocean communities to develop knowledge, build expertise and promote implementation of source-to-sea action. Join on-site in #Barcelona or #online to meet with a variety of scientists and practitioners from different contexts. They will share their lessons learned from working with a range of stakeholders, across the silos that separate terrestrial, freshwater, coastal and ocean actors, and hone in on coordinated actions that benefit the entire source-to-sea system. By working together, we can effectively manage ecosystems’ health and enhance societal resilience.
