Innovative Sustainable Economy Mission

The path to a greener, more digital economy is clear, but it's not without its hurdles. Our industrial transition projects CircleMED Project, GREENSMARTMED Project, REVIVE and ProcuraMED focus on developing sustainable business practices and strengthening regional cooperation in sectors ranging from manufacturing to mobility. On Thursday, we attended the first Forum dedicated to the Italian partners of Euro-MED projects, organised by the Euro-MED National Contact Point Italia of the Interreg Euro-MED Programme. It was a great opportunity to meet in person, catch up and share ideas on how to improve our cooperation. Highlighting once again the role of the Governance projects in supporting exchanges between the Thematic projects and in promoting the uptake of their results. Together with some of the Italian partners of our Thematic projects, we tried to map and localise solutions that they will implement at the Italian level to address the #challenges identified by their projects. And it was interesting to see how close they could be in terms of methodologies, approaches and tools to involve the actors of the 4-helix and drive innovation towards sustainable development 🌿 But even more outstanding was their active participation. They contributed to the exercise with genuine curiosity, also trying to understand how their actions could be mutually beneficial and applied in their respective projects. 🫒 🍇 From olives and grapes to cereals and livestock, #Mediterranean agri-food systems are vital to our way of life. But with climate change and land degradation posing serious challenges, it's time to rethink how we grow and sustain our food. The Carbon Farming MED, CLEPSYDRA Project and OliveOilMedNet projects are leading the way by promoting regenerative practices, water conservation and innovative monitoring systems. 💭 The ISE Community of Practice met online yesterday, bringing together representatives from the JS, the Governance and Thematic projects and other stakeholders from the Interreg world. Through exercises and in-depth discussions, the meeting was a great opportunity to build on the networking and cooperation journey started in Marseille last June. Some takeaways: 🔹 We found out more about the impact the thematic projects will have in the region in the areas of marine resources, agri-food systems, industrial transition and resource valorisation 🔹 We explored the possibility of amplifying their results and heard some success stories from other projects 🔹 We took the opportunity to discuss the next steps and future opportunities for capacity building and skills development. Once again, we are inspired by the enthusiasm and commitment of the community members 🫂 Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to the success of the meeting. 📅 The Arab SMEs Summit 2024, organized by UN ESCWA, will take place in Doha, #Qatar, from 18-20 November. This event unites entrepreneurs, policymakers, investors, and international organizations to drive SME growth and sustainability across the region. The eWaster project is working toward that vision by promoting smarter local and regional policies that 𝗿𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗲-𝘄𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲. It encourages businesses to adopt innovative, eco-friendly models that recycle ♻️ and 𝗿𝗲𝘂𝘀𝗲 materials, creating a sustainable, circular economy for the electronics sector. 🤝 This project is a collaboration of 11 core partners and 14 supporting organizations, bringing together technical experts and political leaders from six EU member states 🇪🇺 and one neighboring country. Together, they are crafting eight action plans 📋 that will 𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗲-𝘄𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀, inspired by the EU’s “𝗖𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲.” 🌱 As they develop these plans, the eWaster team is not just addressing a pressing issue—they are paving the way for a cleaner, greener future 🌿, where 𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗰 𝘄𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲 is no longer a problem but 𝗮 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆. MedWaves and BETA Technological Center are now part of a new project, SEACURE, working together with other project partners to address nutrient pollution across soil, rivers, and seas in the #Mediterranean. Over the next four years, the project will explore sustainable land management, innovative wastewater treatment, and nature-based solutions in regions of #Spain, #Italy and #Greece. Through this collaboration, MedWaves, BETA and the partners aim to bring impactful changes to soil and marine health, addressing critical environmental challenges across the Mediterranean.
