As we begin #NationalInclusionWeek, it is a moment to reflect on how each of us plays a pivotal role in fostering a more inclusive world. Inspired by Accenture’s powerful message in their "Inclusion Starts with I" video, we are reminded that inclusion begins with personal responsibility. Each of us must look inward to create a culture of belonging. True inclusion goes beyond policies or grand gestures; it is in the everyday actions we take, in the way we listen, learn, and act. It requires each of us to be aware of our biases, to embrace diversity in all its forms, and to create safe spaces where everyone feels valued and respected. The I in inclusion is a powerful reminder that change starts within each of us; our attitudes, our behaviours, and our willingness to stand up for those whose voices are often unheard. As we celebrate this week, let us commit to leading by example, creating environments where everyone can thrive, and recognising that the journey to inclusion is one we must take together. Let us be the change, starting with I.

If you are someone who is working towards creating a culture of inclusion and belonging, it is imperative that you know what your inclusion “WHY” is. Whether you are a people leader, a member of your organization’s DEI committee, an ERG member, or an ally who stands in solidarity with minoritized people, knowing your inclusion "WHY" can help ensure that you stay committed and continue your inclusion journey regardless of the inevitable bumps in the road you will experience, which can be stressful, cause burnout, and stifle inclusion progress. Most of us are clear on our organization’s inclusion WHY because that is typically spelled out for us and reiterated by our leaders. This WHY is important and gives us clarity and purpose. However, too many of us are unclear on why we are personally committed to spending our time and energy towards creating a culture of inclusion. Figuring out your inclusion “WHY” can help you be successful in your pursuit to be an agent of change. If you haven’t yet reflected on what YOUR inclusion WHY is, take some time to do so! Tune in to this short clip from my recent keynote at Lake Forest Academy to learn more about how you can benefit from knowing YOUR inclusion WHY.

Words matter, especially in fostering inclusion. In this video, Den M., Director of Diversity+, shares why "diverse" isn’t a label for a person—it’s a term for a group. A single person can’t embody diversity; it’s about variety within a team or community. Let’s use “diverse” thoughtfully to reflect respect and clarity. 💬 How we talk about diversity shapes how we think about it. Watch to learn more! #Diversity #Inclusion #Leadership #LanguageMatters

“Diversity is being invited to the party, inclusion is being a part of the party planning committee” – Daniel Juday, M.Ed, C.D.P. Today, as we celebrate Diversity Day, I’m reminded of how important it is to not just talk about diversity but also prioritise inclusion as the starting point. Many organisations use the term I&D—Inclusion and Diversity—because progress begins when we ensure everyone is part of the conversation and the decision-making process. Equity, of course, is the crucial piece that ensures we provide fair chances to those from less privileged backgrounds. It’s not about giving everyone the same, but about giving each person what they need to succeed. In my work, inclusive leadership has been a central theme. Today, I had the privilege of working with a team who shared their personal stories and reflections on what inclusive leadership means to them. It was a beautiful reminder that leadership isn’t just about being in charge—it’s about being open, conscious, and committed to helping others thrive. Let’s take a moment today to celebrate diversity and deepen our commitment to inclusion and equity in our workplaces, communities, and beyond. #DiversityDay #Inclusion #Equity #InclusiveLeadership #LeadershipDevelopment

Insights from Shanaaz Parker on Fostering Diversity and Inclusion Across Generations 🌈 One key takeaway was her research on exclusionary practices, including the significant work done by one of Achievement Awards Group board members, Kurt April, on systematic exclusion. It’s essential to recognise that these practices often start with US, and we MUST be intentional in our efforts to create inclusive environments. Let’s all commit to being proactive in promoting diversity and inclusivity across all generations! #Diversity #Inclusion #Leadership #GenerationalWorkforce #Intentionality

We can put a man on the moon, but can we truly embrace diversity and inclusion at work? Inclusion isn't just a trendy term—it's the driving force behind progress. Let's draw inspiration from Chief Diversity Officers who lead the way in crafting inclusive futures. 🚀 Their insights remind us that diversity encompasses far more than what meets the eye—it's about recognizing the unique perspectives, talents, and voices that each of us brings to the table. 🤝 Let's renew our commitment to constructing bridges, not barriers. It's within our differences that we find our greatest strengths, spark innovation, and pave the way to a brighter, more inclusive future for everyone. 🌐💪 #InclusionMatters #DiversityandInclusion #EmbraceDiversity #EqualityForAll #LeadershipInAction 🌍

A Year of Inclusioning As I reach the end of my first year of being a full-time Inclusioner (Inclusioneer?, Inclusionist?), I thought it might be interesting to reflect on what I’ve learnt over the last 12 months. Over the next few days, I’m going to share a few stories of my experiences this year. The last 12 months have been one of the craziest of my near 40 years of working life. It’s been at times exhilarating, depressing, scary, fascinating, exhausting, tedious, mind-blowingly complex and ridiculously simple, sometimes all in a single day. However, my overriding emotion as I look back at the last 12 months is pride. I am so proud of the work that Mark, Alana, Tara and I have done at Men for Inclusion this year. I am also incredibly proud of all of our partners in this endeavour. From all the people in our workshops or who listened to or watched our events through to those who try to lead in a different way – in an inclusive way. There are so many people doing wonderful work to try make the world a more equitable and inclusive place, there are way too many to call out, but you know who you are. I applaud you every day. I feel honoured and energised by being part of your network and I am so glad you are my accomplices on this huge undertaking. So what have I learnt about being an Inclusionist in 2024 – a year that has tried its darnedest to make every small, incremental gain feel like the toughest, hardest yards of your life. I've jotted a few ideas on this longer blog - https://lnkd.in/eMU9Mq9Q - but the most important thing I have learnt is that I really see that change is possible. Over 430 people have attended our Inclusion Champions workshops this year and over 70% have said they will implement changes in their team to create a more inclusive culture. I think that is worth celebrating.

Wow, what a year it has been! Inclusion Compass is celebrating its first anniversary, and I can hardly believe all that we’ve achieved together: • 6+ Advisory Projects Completed • 15+ Client Engagements • 95% Client Satisfaction Rate • 5 New Partnerships • 14+ Training Workshops Delivered • 3 Social Impact Collaborations As a woman-founded micro-organization, our mission to foster fair and inclusive workspaces for everyone has always been our guiding light. Confession time… Starting this journey was anything but easy. Six years ago, a dear friend looked me straight in the eyes and said he saw a brilliant entrepreneur in me. Me? I laughed awkwardly. I was a corporate citizen, destined for volunteer work or, at most, academia post-retirement. Fast forward to 2022, and despite loving my job, my colleagues, and the recognition I received, something felt off. The burden of armored leadership weighed heavily on me, prompting a deep introspection about my life’s purpose. Accepting the barriers and limitations I had imposed on myself was tough. It didn’t happen overnight. Slowly, I convinced myself to give it a shot. This would be my experimental lab, my foray into social entrepreneurship. I reached out to trusted friends. Some advised me to stay within my corporate comfort zone, fearing the risks. Others suggested crafting a well-designed strategy. A precious few listened, reminding me of my strengths, past achievements, and their unwavering belief in my vision. And so, I leaped. I dared to trust my inner leader and shed the heavy armor of corporate security. Today, looking back on a year filled with projects, collaborations, and client engagements, I’m profoundly grateful I took that risk. I owe this journey to my incredible colleagues, clients, partners, and stakeholders who challenged norms and biases alongside me. Thank you all for believing in my capabilities and commitment. Here’s to growing our dreams and impact together in the years to come! #SocialEntrepreneurship #DaretoLead
