As we draw closer to the end of 2024, we took time at our annual staff retreat to reflect on the milestones achieved, challenges faced, and lessons learned this year. Most of our discussions centred on the progress made under our 2020-2024 Strategic Plan, which concludes this year.
We evaluated the impact of our work across critical areas, including revenue governance, contract governance, institutional development, climate change, energy transition, and diversity, equity, and inclusion in energy and extractive governance. These reflections are shaping the foundation as we chart a new course for the coming years, leveraging our gains to deepen our impact across Africa.
Beyond work, we engaged in team bonding activities, strengthening the camaraderie that fuels our passion for driving change. Together, we are excited for what lies ahead as we continue to advocate for sustainable, inclusive development across the continent.
We sincerely thank our partners, collaborators, and colleagues for supporting us on this journey. Here’s to a New Year filled with shared successes and impactful collaboration!

🌍 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗿𝘀’ 𝗗𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀: 𝗔 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗳𝘁 𝗧𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝗦𝗚 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 🌱
In today’s global landscape, where social and environmental challenges are becoming more urgent, international donors are no longer just providing funds. They now require strong commitments to 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻
and adherence to 𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹, 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 (𝗘𝗦𝗚) 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮.
🔍 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗳𝘁?
Because the impact of funded projects is no longer measured solely in economic terms. Today, integrating local communities, reducing inequalities, and preserving the environment have become essential pillars for securing financing.
💡 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗴𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀:
𝟭. 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲: Projects must now meet strict ESG standards, or they risk losing access to necessary funds.
𝟮. 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆: Social and environmental impact reports are crucial to demonstrate commitment and tangible results.
𝟯. 𝗢𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀: Companies that integrate these criteria from the outset of their projects are better positioned to attract international funding.
Donors want to ensure their investments contribute positively to a sustainable and inclusive future. This paves the way for projects that, beyond profitability, create shared value for all stakeholders.

As 2024 draws to a close, I am pleased to share my #YearInReview co- produced with #2024LinkedInRewind
2024 reinforced a fundamental truth: addressing the interconnected challenges of climate change, nature loss, food insecurity and income inequality requires both #policycoherence & #locallyled solutions. During engagements across Africa, Asia-Pacific & Europe, I witnessed first-hand how locally-led solutions are delivering for people & planet.
Here are a few examples of achievements in 2024:
• Completed an 18-month engagement on the European Commission mandated High-Level Expert Group on #scaling sustainable finance in LMICs & presented our recommendations to the #IMF & the European Commission . This wasn't just about numbers—but how to bridge critical financial #gaps to accelerate sustainable development and ensure resources reach the last mile; https://lnkd.in/d_7ApmZ2
• Launched a multi-country project at COP16 Colombia aimed at accelerating implementation of the #GBF in Tanzania, Vietnam, Republic of Congo, Vietnam & PNG by ensuring full & effective #participation of indigenous people, local communities, women, youth & other marginalised groups; http://surl.li/vhaxoe
• Joined the #WEF's Global Foresight Network - a global community of practice that works to accelerate and advance the practice of #foresight and future-preparedness. This reinforced a critical insight - our greatest power lies in #anticipating challenges & designing #holistic solutions; https://lnkd.in/dM94iWvm
• Named among #Africas50MostInfluentialWomen in 2024. This wasn't just a personal milestone, but a platform to elevate critical conversations about #womensleadership in solving global challenges; https://lnkd.in/dmUhhZnD.
Three insights that particularly resonated this year:
1. "If it is locally-led, it will be locally-spread. We must invest in #local solutions & take them to scale."
From the #GlobalNaturePositiveSummit in Sydney
https://lnkd.in/dFus-7XG
2. "Our actions & policies remain misaligned, voices remain excluded, & critical resources fail to reach those most in need."
"We must acknowledge that efforts to address conflict, national security, and nature loss are fundamentally #interconnected."
From the #WEF Global Future Council on Nature and Security
https://lnkd.in/d6wi8BXC
3. "Changes in the natural world may appear small & gradual – but over time, their cumulative impacts can add up to trigger much larger changes and #tippingpoints. We must act now."
From WWF's Living Planet Report
https://lnkd.in/dDxbGSpe
Looking ahead to #2025: #Brazil takes over the Presidency of the #BRICS & will host the Climate Change Conference #COP30, while #SouthAfrica is current #G20 president. This unprecedented leadership by the #globalsouth provides a unique #opportunity to #redefine the global agenda towards #integrated, #equitable policies that deliver for people, planet and prosperity & for our #shared future.
Happy 2025! To

Reflecting on 2024 and Looking Forward to 2025:
A Story of Growth and Gratitude.
As 2024 began, two visionaries—Rune Kongshaug and Elizabeth Nasaka, stood at the edge of Southern Africa, united by a dream. They envisioned a framework that would transcend individual ambitions and establish a collective force for change; a governing body and association dedicated to sustainable progress across Africa and beyond.
This vision birthed UVG, a platform built by individuals passionate about transforming their skills into tangible, impactful systems.
Our aim-
To attract a tribe of like-minded members and partners who share a forward-looking commitment to sustainability, empowering youth and women, and shaping Africa’s future.
In its inception, UVG set out to champion sustainable design, ESG principles, the #circular economy, and sustainable practices in different industries. The goal was ambitious: to unlock Africa’s potential by equipping it’s people with the tools and opportunities to lead the charge.
2024: A Year of Growth, Learning, and Collaboration-
This year has been nothing short of transformative. It has been a year of:
👉🏻Growth: Establishing UVG as an emerging force, laying the foundation for systems that empower communities.
👉🏻Learning: Engaging diverse stakeholders to refine our visionary model and align our mission with the needs of those we serve.
👉🏻Collaboration: Forming partnerships and forging relationships that amplify our reach and deepen our impact.
Through consortium-based partnerships and pilot initiatives, UVG has begun turning vision into action, focusing on programs that support youth and women, advocate for sustainability, and align with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles.
At UVG, we are committed to:
🗣️Developing and implementing impactful programs for workforce development, advocacy, and sustainable practices.
🗣️Building local capacities to drive change while ensuring cultural relevance and inclusivity.
🗣️Fostering high-impact, scalable initiatives that align with sustainability and empower communities across Africa.
2025: The Year of Implementation:
As we move into 2025, the focus shifts to #implementation.
Armed with the lessons, insights, and partnerships of 2024, UVG is poised to turn plans into measurable action.
2025 we—
💪Expand our programs to reach new regions and communities.
💪Strengthen partnerships to build scalable, lasting solutions.
💪Demonstrate the power of collaboration and sustainability to transform lives through collaboration with donors, investors and partners willing to wheel this journey.
We are grateful for the journey so far and for everyone who has joined us.
To our partners, members, and supporters: thank you for believing in this vision. Together, we are building not just a future, but a sustainable legacy for Africa.
Let’s make 2025 the year of transformation. Together, we implement. Together, we grow.
UVG, United for Visionary Growth!

The transition to a more sustainable economy coincides with profound shifts in demographics and labour markets, resulting in skills and labour gaps. At the same time, the accelerating transition towards low-carbon emission societies amid rising climate risks is shifting the demand for greener and more sustainable jobs.
Tomorrow (Wednesday) at 15:00 CET, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) with the support of the World Bank Group (WBG) and the International Organisation for Employers (IOE) will gather representatives from Member States, the UN, private sector and civil society to discuss the vision and practical solutions for regular pathways that harness the potential of migration to reduce disruptions of labour market changes and sustain the green transition.
As part of his contribution to the panel, greentech.training Founder and Managing Director Jerome Goerke will discuss the new avenues opening to companies in the green energy sector to attract, onboard and retain resourceful, multilingual and highly innovative talent from around the world.
To attend, please register here:
https://lnkd.in/gkw-VHDH
Why business leaders in particular should attend:
1. Your company struggles to find and retain skilled and qualified staff
2. You feel you cannot tap into international talent because of uncertain qualification and language concerns
3. You are concerned your company lacks the necessary integrative measures to facilitate international growth (or fear these measures are too expensive)
4. You are unsure how new international team members will impact corporate culture
5. You are simply curious to learn why and how regular labour pathways offer an opportunity to drive economic development, innovation and growth for employers powering the green transition.
