And to think, almost 8 years ago we were deploying 2MW/2MWh BESS as the standard deployment of what a big battery was. It’s absolutely incredible to see how the industry has grown exponentially, particularly in the last couple of years. 3 years ago when I joined GHD, a big battery was typically 100MW/200MWh. Even they seem like baby batteries now. So not sure what we’d call a 2MW/2MWh standard I was fronting the delivery of not even a decade ago yet! Results: Significant progress on projects, portfolio growth and market development Today we’ve announced our unaudited Preliminary Results for the Period ended 31 December 2023. Selected highlights include: ✅ Commercial Close status reached as planned at ZW1, Netherlands and GHH, Denmark ✅ Land, grid, cavern and offtake arrangements in place ahead of FID targets ✅ Ahaus in Germany added to portfolio, doubling size of current European portfolio ✅ Offtake and co-investment announced in Germany for AH-1 with Eneco since year-end ✅ In November, a Global Collaboration Agreement signed with Siemens Energy ✅ Policymaker support and wider energy market further improved for LDES Keith Mcgrane, CEO of Corre Energy, said: “2023 was about accelerating our operational performance. #UK: Qair receives approval for over 140 MW worth of solar projects ☀️ Qair has secured planning permission for the Straws Hadley Solar Farm, a c. 50 MWp PV installation in Aylesbury. Welcome to this weeks top news highlights from the commercial energy sector. 1️⃣ Hitachi Energy and SP Energy Networks have collaborated on a power quality solution to enhance grid stability and increase the flow of renewable energy, with the potential to power over 360,000 homes. 🌿👷♀️ 2️⃣ A UK based start-up, affiliated with the larger European energy group NatPower Group, has revealed plans to license three gigaparks for large battery storage projects by the end of 2024, with ambitions to expand to ten more by the end of 2025. 🔋🇬🇧 3️⃣ The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders has reported a 10.4% increase in new car registrations for March, this is the best performance since 2019 and continuing the 20-month streak of growth. The upsurge is primarily attributed to fleet investments. Hybrid vehicles saw a notable increase, reaching record levels with a 19.6% rise. ⚡️🚗 4️⃣ Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners has agreed to acquire a majority share in Irish solar developer Elgin Energy. The partnership will see both Copenhagen and Elgin’s retained management jointly invest £250m in the solar developer. 🌟 655 MW of BESS Secured in Capacity Auction with 17-year Agreement. We have succeeded in the capacity market organized by Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne S.A. (PSE). 📢 R.Power Renewables secured capacity obligations for 2029 under a 17-year agreement, representing a milestone in our commitment to modernizing and stabilizing Poland’s energy infrastructure. This achievement involves an investment in four BESS projects with a combined storage capacity of 2.3 GWh and an installed power of 655 MW. The revenue expected to be generated by these storage units from the capacity market is estimated at approximately 1.6 billion PLN (376 million EUR). 💡 The stability of these revenues is guaranteed by a 17-year long-term agreement to provide services within the capacity market. Additionally, these projects will be able to offer services that support the operation of the power grid and participate in market arbitrage.
