🌏 Opening the LeadWomen APAC DEI Summit 2024 with a Vision for "Humanity Rebalanced" 🌏 Our first panel, "DEI Thought Leadership – Asian Context," was a thought-provoking deep dive into the ways Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion must be reimagined to reflect Asia’s cultural and organisational landscapes. Under the expert guidance of moderator Anne Abraham, distinguished speakers Ruslan Islahudin (PETRONAS), Mahuran Saro Sariki (TalentCorp), Kay Luan TAY (FIDE Forum), and Jukhee Hong (ASEAN-BAC Malaysia) explored the unique opportunities and challenges of adapting global DEI frameworks to our region. The discussion emphasised the need for a region-specific approach: one that respects cultural hierarchies and family-oriented values while ensuring diverse perspectives are included in every boardroom. Key themes included Malaysia’s ongoing DEI progress, the crucial role of governance in fostering inclusive leadership, and positioning DEI not merely as an organisational asset but as a national priority. Audience interaction through live Q&A and Slido underscored the depth of engagement, inviting reflections on how DEI can truly rebalance humanity. As the summit progresses, this session leaves a powerful reminder that inclusive practices are not just about fairness - they are essential drivers of resilience and sustainable growth across Asia. Together, we're setting the stage for a more inclusive, balanced future.🌱 #HumanityRebalanced #APACDEISummit2024 #DEI #LeadWomen #InclusiveLeadership

Why Mentorship Matters: A Two-Way Impact Mentorship is often viewed as a one-sided process, but in reality, it benefits both the mentor and the mentee. For established women leaders and male allies, mentoring the next generation provides the chance to shape future talent, reinforce their leadership legacy, and foster a diverse workplace culture. Meanwhile, for aspiring women, mentorship acts as a fast-track pathway to gaining essential skills—whether technical, strategic, or interpersonal. Through targeted guidance, mentees develop confidence and clarity about navigating workplace challenges and climbing the career ladder in traditionally male-dominated sectors. The journey toward a diverse and inclusive future requires intentional collaboration between leaders, male allies, and aspiring women. I am proud to actively participate in mentorship through IGNITE, knowing that mentorship is one of the most powerful tools to build talent pipelines, close the gender gap, and equip women with the skills and confidence needed to succeed. Am calling to women leaders and male allies for a win-win proposition: mentors develop as inclusive leaders while mentees gain the expertise and leadership competencies needed to thrive. The future depends on the decisions we make today. Let IGNITE be the bridge that connects today’s progress with tomorrow’s promise. #Mentorship #WomenInLeadership #MaleAllies #STEM #TalentDevelopment #DiversityAndInclusion #LeadershipDevelopment Shirley Santoso Henny Purnamawati Shinta Kamdani Anika Faisal
IGNITE, a women’s mentoring and networking program, is going from strength to strength. Initiated in early 2023 by Kearney and Egon Zehnder, IGNITE is now formally incorporated under Asosiasi Pengusaha Indonesia (APINDO). It has also partnered and opened memberships with PT Bursa Efek Indonesia (the Indonesian Stock Exchange), APINDO and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN). Since then, IGNITE membership has grown to more than 60 companies and continues to grow strongly. We are very thankful for all the generosity, passion and amazing contributions from IGNITE's esteemed board of advisors who continuously provide guidance how IGNITE can make a bigger impact to future women leaders of Indonesia. On 24th September 2024, IGNITE was very proud to sign a partnership with IFC - International Finance Corporation (member of World Bank). IFC is a knowledge partner of IGNITE on Childcare Diagnostic and Family Friendly Workplace. IGNITE has also migrated into a digital platform through its strategic partnership with vLookUp. The success of women leaders should propel and inspire all aspiring women leaders. Together, we hope to create opportunities for women to excel in a variety of fields. While Thai businesses recognise the importance of diversity, many still lack actionable strategies to promote women into leadership roles. Only 33% of leadership positions in Thailand are held by women. What do you think about this gap? Let us know in the comments. I had the pleasure earlier today of participating in a podcast as a teaser to the Asia Pacific Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Summit 2024 to be held in Kuala Lumpur in October. It turned out to be an unanticipated live recording session too, but ended up personally for me as the highlight of the week at work! Thank you Nen Lin Soo Liza Liew Natasha Alias for including me in the conversations despite being the sole "thorn", and for sharing your candid views. A thoroughly enjoyable morning, I must say, discussing what is an important business imperative in my view. Kudos to LeadWomen and the sponsors for taking the initiative to drive the DEI agenda beyond the performative, not just in Malaysia but for the region, and to push the boundaries further with real and hard conversations. I look forward to participating at the Summit next month, themed "Humanity Rebalanced", and sharing PwC's perspectives from a business lens in addition to learning from others on this subject. ILA Global Conference ARCHITECTS OF CHANGE I had the honour and privilege of representing the Southern Africa region, in the WKKF Global Fellows Network at the #ILA conference. The GFN Lead and Learn Exchange opportunity is all about connecting with global leaders to share experiences, foster collaboration, and contribute to the network in ways that create lasting impact. This year, it was hosted in Chicago from November 7th to 10th, and to say it has impacted and broadened the ways I view leadership would be an understatement! One of our most salient discussions was around technology and the various ways technological inequality impacts the social and economic mobility of women. In a world where technological advancements aren't slowing down, how do we empower women to take a leading role? Additionally, how do we remove the existing imbalances, and hurdles that exist? Topics like these are of great personal importance to me. After all, I only started using computers at university level. So I have a deep understanding of the challenges some women will encounter when it comes to using these devices and services for the first time. I also appreciate the imperative of technological accessibility and the implementation of foundational structures and tools to support individuals seeking leadership positions in the future. The other thing that stood out to me was the topic of diversity, equity and inclusion. Particularly with the various social and democratic changes occurring across the world, how do we make a case for it when it is seemingly under threat? There are many answers to address these questions, but I know I will continue to ensure that there are a range of voices, and inclusive voices informing my practice. These are only a few small extracts from all that was discussed, but I am truly inspired and renewed by all that took place and how it perfectly aligns with the goals of my current work in #WorldVision Southern Africa as we seek to amplify the voices of women and children in the region. Leadership is about service, collaboration, and growth, and I look forward to working together with my fellow changemakers at ILA to drive positive change around the world. Let's lead, learn, and create a more connected, impactful future! #GFN Lead&Learn Exchange #WKKF GFN #GFN Fellows #ILA #WKKF #ILA2024 #WorldVision #TeamSARO World Vision World Vision Southern Africa W.K. While according to the United Nations, women occupy just over 28% of senior management positions in the world's workplaces. UAB Švyturys - Utenos alus can boast that it is ahead of these averages, with 29 managers, 38% of whom are women. Dalia Jočytė, who manages the Utenos alus brewery, is encouraged by the changing attitude towards women managers in the labour market. Dalia, who has been working with the organisation for 14 years, is convinced that a manager is both born and made and that the workplace invests in its employees and can help you move up the career ladder quickly. Encouragement to continuously improve, the dynamics of the work, the opportunities to be exposed to innovation, and the people who work for the company are the reasons for Dalia's loyalty. ✨ For more on Dalia Jočytė journey at UAB Švyturys - Utenos alus, the changing attitude towards women managers and the qualities needed for a managerial role, see ⬇️ https://bit.ly/3T6jfIY #LocalHeartGlobalStrength #SomethingsBrewing
