“the Albanese government is rightly seeking more potent deterrent capabilities and accelerating preparedness, Canberra’s defence strategy, however, still risks losing sight of current and emerging grey-zone risks which could yield China the benefit of strategic surprise or tactical gains in a future crisis or conflict.” AMBITIOUSLY GREY: PURSUING AN ACTIVE AUSTRALIAN MILITARY APPROACH IN THE GREY-ZONE - THOMAS LONERGAN | MARCH 2024 Defence spending over the forward estimates isn’t expected to feature major if any increases until 2027–28. Ever heard of a transatlantic flight? When an airplane travels over the Atlantic Ocean to reach locations in North America, Latin America, or Europe from countries like Africa, South Asia, or the Middle East, it is referred to as a transatlantic trip. A variety of aircraft, including balloons, airships, and fixed-wing aircraft, have made these flights. Transatlantic flights were initially beset by faulty aircraft engines, navigational issues over large waterways, and weather patterns that were erratic, particularly in the North Atlantic. But since the middle of the 20th century, transatlantic flights have been commonplace for a variety of reasons, including political, military, and commercial ones, connecting continents and promoting international travel and trade. #aviation #atlantic #aviationlovers

Michel Bacos was the captain of Air France Flight 139, which was hijacked and rerouted to Entebbe on June 27, 1976. On board were 240 passengers and 12 crew members when the flight took off from Tel Aviv. The hijackers released the non-Jewish hostages and offered to free Bacos and his crew, but Bacos, who was not Jewish, refused and stayed with the Jewish passengers until they were ultimately rescued by the IDF. Bacos received the National Order of the Legion of Honour, France's highest decoration. Additionally, the Israeli government recognized Bacos and his crew with medals for their heroic actions in refusing to leave the Jewish passengers behind. Bacos passed away in France in 2019 at the age of 95.
