🌍✨ Celebrating Africa Industrialization Day! ✨🌍 In the heart of Africa's bustling cities and serene landscapes, a powerful transformation is underway. Today, we shine a spotlight on the remarkable journey of Africa's industrialization, led by phenomenal women who are breaking barriers and driving sustainable growth across diverse sectors. From the digital realms of technology to the fertile fields of agriculture, and from the dynamic energy sector to the bustling world of manufacturing, these women are not just participants—they are pioneers. 👩💻 In Technology, women are steadily increasing their presence, now holding approximately 30% of tech jobs in Africa. Visionaries such as Rebecca Enonchong, founder of AppsTech, are leading the charge, proving that innovation knows no gender and inspiring a new generation of women to embrace technology. 🌾 In Agriculture, women make up about 50% of the labor force, playing a crucial role in transforming the sector despite facing numerous challenges. Leaders like Dr. Agnes Kalibata, President of AGRA, are championing sustainable farming practices and enhancing food security across the continent. ⚡ The Energy sector is witnessing a revolution with trailblazers like Damilola Ogunbiyi, CEO of SEforALL, at the helm. Her leadership is pivotal in promoting renewable energy solutions and ensuring access to affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy for all Africans. 🔧 In Manufacturing and beyond, women are making significant strides. Innovators like Njeri Rionge, co-founder of Wananchi Online, have revolutionized internet access in East Africa, while Theo Sowa, CEO of the African Women's Development Fund, is empowering women entrepreneurs across the continent. These extraordinary women are not only transforming their industries but are also paving the way for future generations of women leaders. Their impact is evident in the increased participation of women in industrial sectors, the creation of more inclusive work environments, and the overall economic growth of the continent. African Industrialization Day serves as a powerful reminder of the critical role women play in industrial development. Let's continue to support and empower women in all sectors for a prosperous and inclusive future! 💪🏾💼 #AfricanIndustrializationDay #WomenInIndustry #Empowerment #Innovation #SustainableGrowth #AfricaRising #WomenInTech #WomenInAgriculture #WomenInEnergy #WomenInManufacturing

Over 25% of start ups in Africa are founded by women 🙌🏻 Yet (brace yourself) ☹️ Less than 7% of VC funding goes to women led businesses on the continent. An impactful, sometimes goosebumps inducing presentation about the revolutionary #shewinsafrica programme. Bringing talented women of all backgrounds together, providing access to funding, training and technology. From recycling plastic for construction materials, to farming coconuts for skincare 🥥 In my element hearing about the impact of female founders on climate change, employment and innovation. Did you know female entrepreneurship was so strong in #africa? #africatechsummit

Empowering Women for Africa’s Industrialization #Women are uniquely positioned to lead the charge in driving Africa's industrialization. Yet, there is a significant $42 billion investment gap that limits women’s ability to access resources and training to fully participate in these efforts. Furthermore, the lack of adequate entrepreneurship support for women-owned businesses continues to hinder growth opportunities that would otherwise fuel industrialization across the continent. WEConnect International in Africa is working to change this narrative by expanding access to markets for #women-owned small and medium enterprises (SMEs). With 25% of our corporate members committed to sourcing from women-owned businesses in South Africa alone, we are helping bridge the gap and foster inclusive economic growth. #InclusiveGrowth #EconomicEmpowerment

This video sums up the energy, commitment, fun and bonds that we all experienced at the 2X Global Summit.Connections through shared experiences made for key takeaways and motivation to continue the huge strides already made on #genderlensinvesting
What to share about the last two weeks? I could talk about travelling three continents or the beauty of bringing together a community that wants to make this world a better place —whether at the 2X Global Summit in Nairobi or during #ClimateWeek in NYC. I could refer to rooms filled with good people sharing great initiatives and ideas to mobilise capital for the African continent during the Kuramo Capital Management Africa Day or the powerful speech of Isis Nyong'o Madison on the positive role of Women in Tech and how we need to reframe what good looks like at the 2X Global Summit. I could be talking about dreadful leaders shutting up the women in their country altogether #Afganistan or condemning the leaders causing the raging wars in #Ukraine #Gaza #Lebanon #Sudan #Yemen etc, etc. After giving this quite some thought, the 10-second video from the 2X Global Summit in Nairobi attached sums it up for me: We need to unite, we need to play, and we need the courage to be human—in community—for a better world. Now.

A few weeks ago I had the privilege of attending the 2X Global Summit in Nairobi. I was able to share how IDB Invest has paved the way in Latin America and the Caribbean for gender bonds, while sharing the stage with amazing co-panelists (Celia Carbajosa Murciego from #pidg , Jessica Menon from Equilo and Mary Njuguna from FSD Africa). However, mi big take-away from the Summit is learning more about the "next big thing" in the field of gender lens investing: investing in the care economy and a framework of how investors can look at it: 1) look at investment opportunities with a care lens, 2) businesses whose objective is providing care and 3) businesses that lead to labor savings for women (there have been previous experiences in Colombia on how a washing machine can change time allocation to unpaid work for rural women). All of this is very exciting and fills me with energy to continue working in this field. #Ilovemyjob

Riddick, Chidi Blyden showcased the remarkable strides being made in Cote d'Ivoire through initiatives like DG FEM. This program stands as a testament to the transformative power of collaboration between governments, the private sector, and NGOs in driving digital #transformation and #empowering women entrepreneurs across Africa. DG FEM's success story in Cote d'Ivoire illuminates a path forward in addressing the pervasive digital and #gender gaps plaguing the continent. By providing women entrepreneurs with digital #skills and tools, DG FEM not only levels the playing field but also opens a world of opportunities for these women to innovate, lead, and succeed in the digital economy. Blyden's insights into the program underscore the importance of a multifaceted approach to empowerment. It's not just about equipping women with technological know-how; it's about creating ecosystems that support their #growth, #innovation, and access to markets. This holistic strategy ensures that women are not merely participants in Africa's digital transformation but are leading it. The collaborative nature of initiatives like DG FEM reveals the potential for scalable impact when diverse stakeholders come together. Governments provide the regulatory and policy framework conducive to digital entrepreneurship. The private sector brings in investment, innovation, and expertise. NGOs offer grassroots #connections and support structures that understand and cater to the specific needs of women #entrepreneurs. As we champion digital transformation and women's empowerment in Africa, let's draw inspiration from the DG FEM initiative and the power of partnerships. By fostering collaborative ecosystems, we can #bridge gaps, unlock potential, and ensure that women are at the forefront of Africa's digital future. The journey of DG FEM in Cote d'Ivoire is just the beginning. With leaders like Chidi Blyden guiding the way, the potential for groundbreaking change and empowerment across #Africa is boundless.
