I met Patricia Imbarus in a café in Lisbon a few months ago. We shared our stories and shot the shit. I told her about my projects, and she told me about hers. We got excited about common values and ethics. She told me that “this” conference was going to be different. She wasn’t going to be “bought” by sponsors. She wasn’t going to compromise on what it stood for and what it seeks to ignite. I was lured to her strength. I admired her ambition. Laughing, we bonded over how being so purpose-driven was challenging. Tongue-in-cheek, we joked about how it would be easier if we didn’t know what we know and feel how we feel. But we do. I am excited about the Ethical Assembly because it is concerned with intersectional justice. I’ve noticed that this intersectional and systemic understanding is often missing from environmental and climate conversations and spaces in the city. If you live and/or work in or around Lisbon and you are interested in climate solutions, climate tech, social regeneration, community development, urban development, food systems, circular design, land regeneration, decolonial work and more, this is a space for you.
