Many young people growing up in Alice Springs & other remote communities can't see what opportunities in life might lie ahead for them. They see their parents & grandparents, see the poverty all around them, the lack of opportunities in life. They see other Aussies living great lives on TV & social media but not them or their people. The curfew is a short-term circuit breaker to street violence but it's not a long-term fix around education, healthcare, housing, employment or the lifetime opportunities that are needed. There is a way of creating real & meaningful jobs in Alice & other remote communities through modern technology. India & Philippines created tens of thousands of jobs and lifted many more out of poverty by establishing call centres & selling their services. A recent poll indicated 72% of Aussies don't like calls they make to local companies being answered by overseas operators. We can fix that by creating virtual call centres across Australia which would create real & meaningful jobs for all Australians living in rural & remote communities. The technology exists. I need the support of people like you to help make this happen. Anyone who can assist PLEASE get in touch.
As Strategic Partners, Australia and the Philippines share a vision for an open, resilient and prosperous region. A pleasure to welcome Secretary Enrique Manalo to Canberra and to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on Enhanced Maritime Cooperation.

In my latest analysis, I explore the intriguing divergence in Beijing's responses to Vietnam and the Philippines amid escalating tensions in the South China Sea. While Beijing has shown a relatively muted response to Vietnam's extensive island-building initiatives, it has taken a more assertive stance against the Philippines, marked by frequent and ongoing clashes between Chinese and Philippine vessels. Why this disparity? Maritime experts said it is down to a number of factors, including the political relationship between China and Vietnam, the latter’s low-key approach and the alliance between the Philippines and the United States. Thanks Zack Cooper, Isaac B. Kardon, Van Pham, Harrison Pretat, Ray Powell for the valuable insights! There is a clear picture emerging. In a contested global order, it would appear that Italy – as a significant European maritime power – is stepping up to the plate to lead when it should, to convene when it can, and to act when it must. https://lnkd.in/dNiRutBz

https://lnkd.in/dS9J-6ir There’s Nothing Gray About China’s Maritime Muscle-Flexing Illegal, coercive, aggressive and deceptive — why the ICAD moniker for Beijing’s actions in the South China Sea needs to be adopted. July 25, 2024 at 2:30 AM GMT+5:30 By Karishma Vaswani A provisional arrangement between China and the Philippines, intended to smooth their troubles in the South China Sea, has quickly unraveled. Now more than ever, Manila and the international community need to call Beijing’s “gray zone” activities in the contested waters what they are: Illegal, coercive, aggressive and deceptive. This will bring further transparency to a situation that has the potential to turn into a major global flashpoint. The moniker, known as ICAD, was first coined by a Filipino general. Gray-zone activities refer to provocative actions that aren’t so egregious they would demand a warlike response, but neither are they of a peaceful nature.

Vietnam objects to China's expanded reach in Gulf of Tonkin - While the immediate implications of China's latest sea grab are limited, the experts say it could have implications for freedom of navigation in the region, and in an extreme case, Beijing could seek to apply the principle to declare the Taiwan Strait as Chinese coastal waters. https://lnkd.in/eejTxdY9
