I’m exhilarated to share that I will be chairing the 3rd National Student Entrepreneurship Conference 2024, set to bring together aspiring student entrepreneurs from across the nation. This year’s theme, “Fostering the Culture of Job Creation and Economic Empowerment Among the Future Generation of Graduates,” aligns with the urgent need to equip students and young people with the skills and mindset to create their own opportunities in today’s world. The role of education should extend beyond merely teaching content to equipping students and young people with the skills needed to thrive in the 21st century. It should focus on empowering them to reposition themselves in areas such as public speaking, business, technology, innovation, creativity, and most importantly, entrepreneurship, which has become the driving force of today’s economy. Education must inspire a mindset of adaptability, critical thinking, and proactive engagement in these key areas to prepare the next generation for the dynamic and evolving global landscape. At this conference, we’ll dive the required transformative forces, with a focus on entrepreneurship as a key driver of economic growth and personal empowerment. SL Student Entrepreneurs Network (SEN-SL), is a platform designed to inspire, educate, and empower the next generation of leaders, innovators, and job creators. I’m excited to be part of this impactful journey and look forward to an auspicious event! Sarah Kamara let’s do this! #Entrepreneurship #YouthEmpowerment #Innovation #JobCreation #NSC2024 #SENSL #Chairperson #Host

"If I have not made any mistake, it means I am not trying something new." This powerful insight set the tone for an engaging panel discussion, moderated by Mr. Atul Bharat, Director of AIIH Foundation, on how academic institutions can nurture entrepreneurship by weaving innovation, critical thinking, and real-world experiences into education. The panel explored actionable strategies to empower students to embrace risk, tackle real-world challenges, and unleash their entrepreneurial potential—building a generation ready to innovate and lead. Key Takeaways: Entrepreneurship is Innate: Mr. Dipan Sahu emphasized that entrepreneurship is about tapping into one's natural potential, with passion, attitude, and hands-on experience being key to developing entrepreneurial skills. Real-World Experience is Key: Dr. Rajeev Roy stressed that entrepreneurial skills cannot be taught solely in classrooms but need to be developed through real-world challenges and experiential learning. Importance of Collaboration: Panelists highlighted the need for stronger collaboration between academia and industry to help students transition from theoretical learning to practical entrepreneurial success. Role of Faculties: Faculties should inspire students to innovate and explore entrepreneurship beyond the syllabus, guiding them to take risks and solve real-world problems. Focus on Experiential Learning: Panelists agreed that integrating experiential learning, such as ideation, execution, and market understanding, into curriculum is essential for preparing students for entrepreneurship. Overcoming Barriers: The discussion addressed challenges like fear of failure and lack of support systems in academia, urging for policies and initiatives to create a more supportive environment for student entrepreneurs. The panel reinforced that fostering an entrepreneurial mindset requires a blend of academic discipline, experiential learning, and strong industry-academia collaboration. It also stressed the need to empower students to embrace risk, learn from failure, and pursue meaningful, innovative work. A truly inspiring and insightful discussion that encouraged the audience to rethink how entrepreneurship can be nurtured within educational systems. A heartfelt thank you to our esteemed panelists, Mr. Dipan Sahu and Dr. Rajeev Roy, and moderator Mr. Atul Bharat for their enlightening perspectives. Your insights have inspired us to rethink how academic institutions can shape the next generation of innovators and changemakers. #Entrepreneurship #Innovation #Startups #Education #PanelDiscussion #ExperientialLearning #FutureSkills #Mentorship #Leadership #Collaboration #InnovationEcosystem

Have you ever wondered why some of the most successful innovators started their journeys at a young age? In our rapidly changing world, the ability to think creatively, solve problems, and adapt to new situations is more important than ever. This is why I believe promoting entrepreneurship education in schools is not just beneficial—it's essential. When we introduce entrepreneurship education to students, we equip them with a unique set of skills that go beyond traditional academic subjects. They learn how to identify opportunities, develop business ideas, and understand the basics of finance and marketing. More importantly, they gain critical soft skills like resilience, leadership, and the ability to work collaboratively. I’ve seen firsthand the incredible impact that entrepreneurship education can have. Students become more engaged in their learning, seeing a direct connection between their studies and real-world applications. They gain confidence in their abilities and begin to see themselves as potential creators and leaders. Moreover, entrepreneurship education fosters a growth mindset. It teaches students that failure is not a setback but a learning opportunity. This mindset is crucial not only for entrepreneurs but for anyone facing the challenges of the 21st century. Consider the stories of young entrepreneurs who have turned school projects into thriving businesses. Their journeys often start with a simple idea, nurtured by supportive teachers and a curriculum that values creativity and innovation. These experiences can shape their futures in profound ways, providing a foundation for lifelong learning and success. Incorporating entrepreneurship education in schools also has broader societal benefits. It can drive economic growth, create jobs, and foster innovation in our communities. By teaching students to think like entrepreneurs, we are preparing the next generation to tackle global challenges with ingenuity and courage. So, how can we make this a reality? It starts with educators and policymakers recognizing the importance of entrepreneurship education and integrating it into the curriculum. We need to provide teachers with the resources and training they need to effectively teach these concepts. And we need to create a supportive environment where students feel encouraged to take risks and pursue their ideas. 🌟 How does a dream transform into an impactful reality? Recently, I had the privilege of experiencing a transformative journey through an entrepreneurship program in New York. The daily walks through the streets of Manhattan to reach the classroom were nothing short of magical. Stepping out of class and being just steps away from The New York Times was truly incredible. Visiting Civic Hall was another highlight that added to the richness of this experience. During this program, I enhanced 7 key competencies that have redefined my approach: 1️⃣ Business Acumen: I learned to turn ideas into valuable opportunities and make strategic decisions with a clear vision. 2️⃣ Sense of Purpose: I reconnected with the mission of Uni Ingenio, my venture dedicated to helping young people achieve their university dreams and find their true purpose. 3️⃣ Innovation Skills: I discovered how to think outside the box and find disruptive solutions to everyday challenges. 4️⃣ Growth Mindset: I learned to view obstacles as opportunities for growth and to maintain a resilient attitude. 5️⃣ Relationship Building: I understood the importance of building genuine connections that enrich and support our entrepreneurial journey. 6️⃣ Execution Skills: Effective execution of ideas became a priority, reminding me that action is key to success. 7️⃣ Perseverance: I reaffirmed that perseverance is essential to overcoming challenges and continuing to move forward, even when the path gets tough. 💖 A special shoutout to Santander Open Academy and TrepCamp for the scholarship they provided me. Being one of the 60 selected participants for this program has been an invaluable opportunity that has transformed my perspective and entrepreneurial path. I also want to give a huge thank you to my EIR, the coordinators, speakers, and fellow participants who made this experience unforgettable. Honoured to be featured in a recent article for QS Insights Magazine's April Edition on "What Students Want". Having worked with over 50,000 students globally (and as a student myself), I've seen that Gen Z prioritizes flexibility, practical application and convenience. With over 60% of Gen Z interested in pursuing entrepreneurship, I have had the pleasure of working with universities to include those tenents into their entrepreneurial programs and wider opportunities at their universities and am excited to continue doing so and see that reflected in the thoughts of the others in the article. I've also had the absolute pleasure to work with the two other amazing student entrepreneurs featured in the article, Harrison Chong and Sharma Dayine (who actually started off as one of our students at Ascendance!). It was fascinating to see the same considerations echoed in their thoughts through this article as well. Andrew Patterson from the University of Auckland also shared his magnificent insight as an educator on this topic that I was fortunate to first hear last year when he was moderatoring a panel I was speaking on. (Glad I found this wonderful picture from the event and so happy that others can read your insights on the topic below). All in all, Afifah Darke tells the story beautifully, articulating our thoughts and those of Gen Z around the world, in this wonderful piece. There is something wrong with this list as the University of California San Diego (UCSD) one of the top university in science and technology in the US is not listed.
