United States Marine Corps USMC Scout Sniper Association USMC Special Operations Marine Scout Sniper Heritage Foundation Recon & Sniper Foundation Words mean things. READ BELOW: VIA @moderndaysniper ・・・ DOPE vs Firing Solution D.O.P.E - an acronym for Data On Previous Engagement. Back in the day, snipers and long range shooters used data books to track their data. Whether you’re a basic student at Scout Sniper School or a Scout Sniper Platoon receiving a set of new M40s to the platoon, one of the very first training tasks was gathering data for that sniper system. This usually consists of firing 3-5 rounds at every hundred yard-line from 300-1000 yards, for a minimum of 5 days (to try to gather consistent data in various conditions for that week). If you do the math… that’s roughly 150-200 rounds just to gather the elevation firing solution. Another reason for DOPE is that not all scopes tracked correctly. This was commonly seen for the Unertl rifle scopes. For example, sometimes a scope/rifle combo would require 700 +3 to engage an 800 yard target while other scopes were 800 +1. Firing Solution - With the advancements of equipment and technology and the accuracy of today’s ballistic softwares, the accuracy of a scope’s ability to track and chronographs, the #moderndaysniper and #moderndayrifleman uses a firing solution. Once the correct inputs are plugged into a ballistic software, for both the rifle and environmental variables, the ballistic solver produces an output (firing solution) for the shooter. This has streamlined the process for snipers and long range shooters to gather data for their rifle systems. What once took several hundred rounds and several days to compile, now takes typically less than 20 rounds and a few hours. So our question to you is… what are you using? DOPE or a Firing Solution? . 📷: @josaphatorozco . #shadowmansunday #scoutsniper #sniper #dope #firingsolution #dontbeabitch #usmcscoutsniper #m40a6 #fundamentalist #90degreesoftriggercontrol #keepyourfaceonthegun

Shipyard Trivia: Locomotive Cranes – Steel Wheeled Beasts of Burden By Marcus W. Robbins, NNSY Historian & Archivist Shipyards have used various methods to move materials since their beginning. The very nature of the materials utilized within the trades are heavy, awkward and most times difficult to place. Manual labor could only go so far. Animal labor such as beasts of burden (oxen and horses) could only do so much also because Norfolk Navy Yard continued to service larger ships over time, which required the use of dry docks. Due to that change, both man and beast’s abilities to perform larger and heavier tasks decreased so cranes became the way of the future. For the full story, visit:https://ow.ly/G33550RBAN3

Remember when you first came up? Who was that one senior man who showed you the ropes? Ensured you were ready for the job and got you squared away? If you didn’t have that senior man guiding you, then be that senior man to guide the younger firefighters to how you would have wanted to be guided. #fireservicewarrior #5toolfirefighter #fireserviceleadership #firefightergrowth #theseniorfirefighters
