One of the many valuable lessons I learned from the #DMIP program by Girls in Marketing, aside from the wealth of knowledge and experience shared by the tutors, is the importance of engaging your audience. Throughout the sessions, I noticed every tutor using various methods to keep the audience actively involved—whether it was through millimeter polls, prompts like “let me know in the Slack channel,” or remarks about how the channel was buzzing with feedback. It worked brilliantly in a video-based training setting. Then I thought, how can I bring this level of engagement to my text-based newsletter? I really didn’t want to have to write about this … ☹️ Last Wednesday marked the end of the Girls in Marketing Digital Growth Programme Over the past two weeks thousands of marketers from all over the world have been able to up their digital marketing game by participating in 4 learning packed sessions! It has been so good to connect with people from all over the world and continue to develop my skill set. Below are my key takeaways from the final session : → Maximising and Understanding Your Marketing Budget(s) with Lisa Pearson 📍You must align your budgets with your customers and business priorities 📍Marketing budgets come in all different sizes so as a general guideline follow the below strategy: Small-medium budget = content and social media campaigns Large budget = research and development/brand awareness and flexibility → Navigating Stakeholder Dynamics: Building Confidence and Assertiveness with Amy Lewin I loved this session! Ups and downs will always be there, and facing them means you're winning at life. This time, you're not starting from scratch but with experience—which is a powerful truth I’ve come to realize in my career. Even with 4+ years in social media marketing, I’m still in the learning phase, I’m still eager to explore new skills and tactics in digital marketing, I still believe that beyond mastering your core skill, learning other skills is valuable and important. 2024 started as a blast from my end. Relatively speaking, I got many opportunities much of which was meant to improve my skills. What's more? I realize my knack for media. Which, thankfully, I got the opportunities to improve myself in this aspect. Furthermore, I realize the media and the social media space is more than just about posting contents, the social media space is much wider and more than that. For a while now, I've been getting various opportunities for being a social media manager for some organizations, some of which I turned down, others, I accepted. At times, I wonder how or why I get these proposals. I mean, looking at my social media handles, I must say I still have many things to improve on. Nevertheless, I've gotten to figure out that education is much more than being within a 4 cornered class room. It is about knowledge acquisition. And thanks to these opportunities, I've been studying how the social media space works in relaying your messages to your audience... 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗻’𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗣𝗦𝗖 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗲 𝗮 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿? 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗱🤝 I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve heard this from my relatives. Maybe it’s because I’m the daughter of a teacher myself! I still remember the disappointment in my parents’ eyes when I decided to drop my B.Ed plans and didn’t follow the ‘secure’ government path. Begrudgingly, and after trying my best to be a ‘convincing star,’ my parents agreed to let me pursue #DigitalMarketing. Two days earlier, when I stood before the learners of Institute Of Digital Skills , I couldn’t help but smile. Perhaps my parents’ intuition wasn’t so far off after all- just packaged differently! ✨ Kicking off the Winter Semester with a Search Marketing lesson that’s all about YOU! This week, I had my students dive into an activity called “𝙃𝙤𝙬 𝘿𝙤 𝙄 𝙎𝙝𝙤𝙬 𝙐𝙥 𝙤𝙣 𝙎𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙘𝙝?” Here’s how it worked: 💡 Each student paired up and played dual roles—𝘤𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘵. 1️⃣ The “consultant” searched for their partner on Google and LinkedIn. 2️⃣ They analyzed their partner’s online visibility and alignment with their target roles. 3️⃣ Then, they switched roles and repeated the process. The activity sparked meaningful conversations about personal branding, online visibility, and making sure their profiles reflect their career aspirations. The icing on the cake? We had one group share their feedback process, and it became a moment to discuss 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘥𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘴𝘵𝘺𝘭𝘦𝘴. Their different approaches opened the door to a rich discussion about: 🔹 Embracing various communication styles. 🔹 Providing feedback in a way that aligns with Canadian workplace expectations. 🔹 Learning how to decode and adapt to different styles in diverse environments. This session was a perfect blend of self-reflection, collaboration, and learning how to amplify one’s online presence while enhancing interpersonal skills.
