One of the many valuable lessons I learned from the #DMIP program by Girls in Marketing, aside from the wealth of knowledge and experience shared by the tutors, is the importance of engaging your audience. Throughout the sessions, I noticed every tutor using various methods to keep the audience actively involved—whether it was through millimeter polls, prompts like “let me know in the Slack channel,” or remarks about how the channel was buzzing with feedback. It worked brilliantly in a video-based training setting. Then I thought, how can I bring this level of engagement to my text-based newsletter? Enters Substack: Hold my cup 👇🏾 I love this feature because of the high response rate—it shows me that people aren't just passively reading, they're actively interacting with my content. It’s a great confidence boost and an indicator that the conversation goes both ways. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As we approach the 100-subscriber milestone, I have some exciting news to share about what's coming next for Dear Digital Marketing Newbie... I really didn’t want to have to write about this … ☹️ Last Wednesday marked the end of the Girls in Marketing Digital Growth Programme Over the past two weeks thousands of marketers from all over the world have been able to up their digital marketing game by participating in 4 learning packed sessions! It has been so good to connect with people from all over the world and continue to develop my skill set. Below are my key takeaways from the final session : → Maximising and Understanding Your Marketing Budget(s) with Lisa Pearson 📍You must align your budgets with your customers and business priorities 📍Marketing budgets come in all different sizes so as a general guideline follow the below strategy: Small-medium budget = content and social media campaigns Large budget = research and development/brand awareness and flexibility → Navigating Stakeholder Dynamics: Building Confidence and Assertiveness with Amy Lewin I loved this session! The below points were taken from Amy’s slide at the end of the session and I thought they were really important reminders: 📍Remember that you were hired for a reason so stand behind your ideas and deliver them with conviction 📍Don’t let job titles intimidate you, everyone’s career started somewhere 📍Ask yourself, what advice would I give to a friend in this situation? 📍Remember that if one role, organisation or industry isn’t right for you, it’s an opportunity to learn and grow 📍Relationships go two ways and communication is key As always, a huge thank you to Olivia Mae Hanlon for putting this together and to the sponsors Semrush and Hostinger. #digitalmarketing #apprentice #professionaldevelopment

"I’m a bit confused because the competition is so high everywhere. I can’t figure out how to stand out from the crowd and do something different." On Friday, while I was on my way to college by metro, I met an old school friend. We were having a casual conversation when I asked her what she’s up to these days, and she replied with this. But you know what? This is exactly how I used to feel when I started digital marketing. I constantly doubted my abilities, and it took me a few months to overcome this. Here’s what I started doing: 📌 Instead of trying to learn everything at once, I focus on improving myself by 1% every day and continuously upskilling. 📌 Rather than wasting time on unimportant gossip, I put my heart and soul into building my portfolio. 📌 I attend client meetings with my team members. 📌 I work on everyday tasks related to my domain. 📌 I engage with people on LinkedIn. Here are the results: 📌 It boosts my confidence. 📌 It helps me communicate effectively. 📌 I gain exposure to practical work experience. 📌 I learn from others' mistakes every day to avoid them in the future. So far, I've learned that the best way to overcome self-doubt is to immerse yourself in various activities and events. When you're fully engaged in work, there's less time to doubt yourself. _____________________________________________ P.S.: These are the small changes I've made. What are yours? Digital Marketing Growth Programme, completed it mate 😎 For the past 2 weeks I've been enjoying spending my Monday and Wednesday afternoons with the lovely people at Girls in Marketing for this free training programme. There were sessions on... 👨👩👦👦 Analysing audience insights (Olivia Mae Hanlon) 📩 Using data to inform email marketing (Beth O'Malley) ✍ Content audits (Rejoice Ojiaku) (my personal favourite 🙈 ) 🔎 SEO (Rita Cidre) 📖 Strategic storytelling (Sophie Lee) 💸 Understanding marketing budgets 🎓 Marketing career advice There was such a vibrant mix of topics and speakers. I found it really valuable for exploring new ideas and looking at topics from a different angle with knowledge from experts who know what they're on about. Some of my general key takeaways: 👉 Batch and blast DOESN'T work! Segmentation is key 👉 Data is gr8 (even tho I'm scared of maths) 👉 Understanding wider business goals is essential I love learning from other people's experiences and exploring new concepts so this was a perfect chance for me to boost my marketing skills that bit further - thank you to all involved! Also so grateful for my employer accessplanit for making learning and development such a focus and allowing us the time to take courses like these for our own personal and professional development. I also really loved the community vibe created by the hundreds of us who attended and chatted along the way! The marketing industry is daunting because it's ever-changing and saturated with ideas and voices. Knowing we're all in the same boat and being able to connect with shared struggles and passions is super valuable - so hello to everyone who's added me from the Slack channel 💗 Although... I have to say that my greatest achievement is beating most of you in the Kahoot-style quiz at the end of the programme 🔥 #Upskilling #MarketingSkills #DigitalMarketing #Networking

𝗜𝘁 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗹𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 • Creates an illusion of “effort” without true direction • Lacks clear objectives and measurable outcomes • Without a focused approach, your institution becomes one of many voices in the crowd 𝟮. And... just like that its over! It's been a whirlwind two weeks taking part in the Digital Marketing Growth Programme with Girls in Marketing. I can't thank them enough for accepting me onto the programme and letting me be apart of this amazing opportunity. Over the course we have covered sessions on: - Analysing data and the customer journey - Email marketing strategies - Content auditing and reporting - SEO insights - Storytelling techniques - Upskilling and showcasing skills - Navigating stakeholder dynamics The programme has been an eye opener to the wealth of skills required as a marketer today. It has allowed me to up-skill in various areas and network with like-minded individuals. I would recommend the course to anyone working in marketing to develop their career and knowledge. Choosing 3 takeaways from the programme has been tough to decide as there were so many. But, here are the three I have gone with. 1. Have confidence in your own ability, it will take you far. 2. Managing budgets is never easy and a lot of marketers struggle with this, you're not alone. 3. Building a community, networking and understanding customer relationships is important for personal and business growth. So after a busy two weeks of learning. I'm hoping for the sun to keep shining as we head into the weekend so I can relax and celebrate my hard work. Congratulations to my fellow marketers on the programme, you have been amazing and it's been wonderful to network with so many of you. Here's to marketing! #girlsinmarketing #DMGP #marketing #growthmindset #networking
