🚀 My insights from the Smart City Expo World Congress 2024 in Barcelona! Initially, I faced a dilemma as the DANA had severely impacted Valencia and its surroundings. It felt contradictory to attend an event focused on solutions for climate neutrality while witnessing the devastation caused by massive rains. However, I realized that this was precisely the place to be. Often, the adoption of new technologies to support climate neutrality strategies is seen as a "nice to have" rather than an urgent necessity. The reality is quite the opposite. Every community must integrate digitalisation into their strategies and leverage available technologies to accelerate our sustainability goals as committed to in the EU Green Deal. Building these strategies carefully and moving from pilot projects to real deployments is crucial. This can only happen if political and strategic teams prioritize digitalisation. It is imperative to recognize digitalisation as an urgent priority today. During the congress, I had the opportunity to have two sessions with Helen Köpman, the Deputy Head of Unit - AI for Societal Good, with the Smart Communities Network and with experts in different fields such as procurement (Intellera Consulting - Eliana Gerardi), interoperability (Open & Agile Smart Cities & Communities (OASC) - Michael Mulquin) or the largest network from European Cities (Eurocities - Lucía Garrido ) between others. During these sessions, we were able to discuss how to help communities and cities on their digitalisation and procurement journey. 🔍 Poll: What do you think is the biggest barrier to adopting digital solutions for climate neutrality? (Please comment) 1. Lack of funding 2. Political will 3. Technical expertise 4. Public awareness Thank you to all the partners and stakeholders I met during the expo for inspiring my daily activities. This motivation drives my work and commitment to making a tangible impact.

Exciting sessions tomorrow! A great example of how standardizing and creating data ecosystems leads to easily deploy solutions that tacke real use cases in mobility! Aimsun
Exciting day tomorrow at the Smart City Expo World Congress 2024 in Barcelona! I'll be showcasing the use case "Traffic Optimization in Terrassa through a Public-Private Data Ecosystem of Sensors and Digital Services" – a demonstration project that leverages data spaces to optimize urban mobility and enable digital decision-making solutions for the Ajuntament de Terrassa. This project is part of the Data Space Demonstration Centre of Catalonia, run by the Generalitat de Catalunya and i2CAT Joining me as special guests Antonio L. , CTO of Acisa, and Josep Maria Aymami, Head of Market Expansion at Aimsun, will share their experiences in collaborating in this project. Their insights will highlight how public-private cooperation has been essential in enabling decentralized data sharing in the urban mobility value chain. 📍 Don't miss our session tomorrow, 06/11, at the Àgora stage of the Catalonia stand, Hall 3 : D50, at 11:30. Looking forward to discussions on building smarter, more sustainable urban environments through decentralized and interoperable #DataSpaces! #SmartCityExpo #DataSpaces #UrbanMobility #SmartTraffic #PublicPrivatePartnerships #Catalonia #Gencat #Terrassa #Acisa #Aimsun #i2cat

It's an exciting first day at the Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona #SCEWC24 —a gathering of visionary leaders, tech innovators, and forward-thinking investors! The discussions are laser-focused on one big question: How do we reshape cities to reduce car dependency? It's increasingly clear that investing in larger roads and new bridges may actually increase car reliance. The day’s highlight for me was a powerful session titled “An Awakening Call for Public Transport in Europe,” led by André Sobczak, Secretary General of Eurocities, with several deputy mayors of mobilities across Europe. The standout speaker in my opinion was Arianna Censi, Deputy Mayor for Mobility in the City of Milan, who delivered a bold vision of reimagining urban mobility. She emphasized that investments in mobility must prioritize the dignity of public transport—an essential for livable, accessible cities. she was honest about the challenges and she was clear about the roadmap Adding to the momentum, a landmark declaration was signed by 10 European cities, committing to accelerate the development of smart, accessible public transit solutions. It’s a game-changer for urban transformation. For us in the Middle East ( the auto-centric cities) , the conversation around public transport investment is one we need to prioritize. We must envision a future where public networks reach the closest points to our homes and work, making car-free mobility a realistic option. Today’s discussions on mobility hubs were also inspiring—many cities have seen great success integrating these hubs, and it’s time for us to explore how we can replicate that here. Urban planning that fosters inclusivity, smart technology, and a shift away from cars isn’t just visionary—it’s necessary. Looking forward to more insights this week! #SmartCityExpo #UrbanMobility #SustainableCities #PublicTransport #Barcelona

I once again attended the Smart City Expo World Congress 2024 in Barcelona. I learned a lot from various people on-site, and I extend my thanks to everyone I met. I've heard a range of opinions about this year’s SCEWC, but my perspective is very positive. This year, in particular, it offered a chance to reaffirm that the sustainable development of a city is built by merging the unique creativities of individuals. I felt that this event was evolving into a “bazaar” open to new ideas and innovation. The term “smart city” is used here as a general noun, and its meaning is intentionally being updated. It is shifting from simply referring to "city" toward a broader concept of "ecosystem." This year’s theme, “LIVE BETTER,” reflects this shift. This is likely both a guiding principle for this large event and a global trend in urban development. I also sensed how close-knit, tangible innovations can, in turn, spark trans-local possibilities. Perhaps it’s time to replace the term “global” with “trans-local” or “trans-cultural”. City of Barcelona booth demonstrated true leadership, openly sharing specific practices, processes, and outcomes as quickly as possible with many others. It was very clear. I felt that we, as Japanese, need to carefully consider its significance. I truly hope to return to this city again next year. My heartfelt thanks go out to everyone I had the pleasure of meeting. #SCEWC24 #smart #city #innovation #ecosystem #barcelona

Smart Cities - that's what I wanna talk about! Not what splits us, but what really brings us together. The world is gathered in Barcelona to talk about how we can make urban life more sustainable - both socially, economically and environmentally. "Urban data" was the name of the session I took part in, together with Anders Broberg from Stockholm and Tomas Lehtinen from Helsinki, wonderfully moderated by Thomas Bergøy Johansen and what we talked about was... no, not technology - but culture! Yes we need enabling regal frameworks and tech infrastructure, but both the quality of data and use of data ultimately depends on people seeing the value of using it. I look forward to share more examples of how we are moving to become more data-driven in Bydel Gamle Oslo I forget to think about photos on stage, but here is at least some kind of proof that I really was there 😀 Smart City Expo World Congress

The Smart City Expo Barcelona kicked off yesterday, bringing together thousands of international companies to showcase the latest innovations in smart city development. Air quality is one of the most fundamental aspects of smart city development; after all, a smart city without clean air is unimaginable. In events like this, how would you know that the air you breathe is clean among thousands of people crossing and visiting every day? This is exactly why there is a need for an air quality solution to help exhibitors, organizers, and visitors breathe easily and maintain their productivity and health during the event. Fortunately, ARVE stands out in this crowded space. Visitors to the ARVE stand have already noticed the difference, and many are eager to learn more about air quality. #SmartCityExpo #SCEWC24 #CleanAirForAll #AirQualityMatters #LiveBetter #ARVEAirQuality
