Last two weeks provided me an unique opportunity to attend two events #greensteelsummitmena2024 at Dubai & #SPE Innovation and Collaboration for Low carbon energy solutions at Abu Dhabi. It was a pleasure to see two different sectors working towards a similar goal - help achieve CO2 emission reduction while making most of existing infrastructure. It could be really sensed across both the forums that industry has waken up to take this challenge and contribute to the global emission reduction commitments. Low carbon hydrogen and carbon capture & utilization (CCU) were the highlights which you could hear across the panels, participants and theme for both the conferences. What was interesting to see was everyone asking the questions on similar lines - - How much can each industry contribute - By what route can they contribute - How can carbon capture be applied and when applied how can it be utilized - What is the policy/incentive support for implementing the carbon capture system - How to balance the additional costs of carbon capture As an engineer having worked in the field of hydrogen, ammonia, methanol and now focusing on CO2 capture solutions, I strongly feel that cross industry collaborations can help answer atleast a part of the puzzle of utilization and incentivization of the CO2 capture. One such example is CO2 capture in steel process and use the CO2 for enhanced oil recovery/sequestration. Another route can be methanol manufacture using blue/green hydrogen! The industry looks for more! What idea do you have..

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai’s Government, have decided to trial the use of hydrogen-powered buses throughout Dubai. The agreement also outlines that the hydrogen will be supplied by ENOC, whilst Zhongtong Bus & Holding Co., Ltd, a Chinese company, will provide the fuel cell system intended for the vehicle. Once these have been collected, the initiative will also have the responsibility of testing the challenges and opportunities presented by hydrogen production and supply. The article below depicts the new agreement which will involve hydrogen-powered buses being put to use within Dubai. The path this plan has taken so far, highlights how necessary it is to involve multiple parties within a project, in order to gain skills and expertise which are necessary to make a project successful. More exciting news for Hitachi Zosen Inova, who have won the contract to construct a new Energy from Waste plant in Abu Dhabi. A joint venture with Alec Butec, the new plant will process 900,000T of non-recyclable waste each year. Given the success of their Dubai project - the largest EfW plant in the world - this is great news for the middle-east and for HZI. I’ve just returned from ADIPEC in Abu Dhabi. This year’s theme highlighted the important nexus of digitalisation, AI and energy, as leaders and innovators came together to shape a future that will be as efficient as it is sustainable. A particularly resonant theme was the deepening of commercial ties between Asia and the Gulf: a visible trend of Asian businesses establishing long-term roots in the region and with the Gulf reciprocating, underscoring mutual commitment for sustainable growth and energy innovation. In many ways, these partnerships and collaboration provide lessons for the West on the importance of adaptation, innovation and building shared commitments. From what I experienced in Abu Dhabi, the Middle East has positioned itself as the epicentre of the new energy future and it is exciting to see how it will continue to shape the global energy landscape.

Senior Process Engineer at OMAN METHANOL COMPANY
2moGreat opportunity Anil are lucky to be part of such events. Co2 emissions reduction is must for universe survival. It is unisolated case so you will be affected weather you will contribute or not Global warming and 1 degree rise is showing sign of ecological disturbance. I remember I passed my first 25 years without AC but now next generation is having three AC (bed room,Zim,study room)for each. Energy to be utilized curiously otherwise#As you row ,same you cut#
