🌍 🌉 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗮𝗽: 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 & 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻🌍 Recently, while recruiting for a senior role, I came across an important realization: educating candidates about both the company and the location is crucial for success. I was working on a senior role for a Kenya location, and I noticed many talented candidates were hesitant, not because of the role itself, but due to misconceptions about the location. It made me realize how vital it is to go beyond the job description. Here’s why these matters: 1. 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝘁 & 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Every company and location have its own unique culture and way of working. Educating candidates on both ensures they align not just with the company’s values, but also with the community they’ll be joining. Whether it's understanding local customs or knowing the work-life balance, this knowledge sets candidates up for success. 2.𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁: Different locations come with different market dynamics. In many regions, especially emerging markets, candidates may not be aware of the rapid growth and opportunities available. Educating them about the local business environment—whether it's a booming tech scene or an expanding food sector—opens their eyes to the potential they could tap into. 3.𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Misconceptions about certain locations can cloud a candidate’s judgment. Clear, accurate information about the region helps them see beyond stereotypes and focus on the real opportunities that await. 4. 𝗥𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 & 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘁𝘆𝗹𝗲: When candidates are moving to a new city or country, they have questions. What’s the cost of living? How’s the lifestyle? What are the schooling or housing options? Educating them on these details ensures they feel prepared and excited about the move. In my experience, once candidates are fully informed about both the company and the location, their enthusiasm grows. This gives them a complete picture, so they can make confident decisions and thrive in their new roles. Let’s invest in educating our candidates and bridge the knowledge gap—because an informed candidate is a confident one. 🌱 #Recruitment #CandidateExperience #GlobalHiring #TalentAcquisition #WorkCulture #Relocation Jane Taylor Bhakti Thakar Deepmala Gajjar 🌍Kena Shah (Chaniary) 🌍 Seema Shah 🎯 Megha Sharma John Saxena Nikunj Shah 🤝

I am back from my trip to Kenya, and I couldn't help but provide some insights and perspectives and how they apply to the world of recruiting: 🌍 Effective Communication: Engaging with some of the locals in Kenya highlighted the importance of clear and effective communication, especially when there are language barriers. The same is true with recruiting. Effective communication with candidates and clients is essential for conveying job requirements, expectations, and building strong relationships. 🗣️ Adaptability and Flexibility: Traveling in general often requires adaptability to unexpected situations, such as changes in plans or unforeseen challenges. Similarly, recruiters need to be adaptable and flexible to navigate the ever-changing landscape of job markets, candidate preferences, and client needs. 💪 Problem-Solving Skills: I encountered various challenges during my trip requiring quick thinking and problem-solving skills. In recruiting, being able to troubleshoot issues, address concerns, and find creative solutions is essential for success, whether it's resolving conflicts between candidates and clients or overcoming recruitment obstacles. 💡 Networking and Relationship Building: Interacting with locals, tour guides, and fellow travelers in Kenya caused me to reflect on the importance of networking and building relationships. In recruiting, establishing a strong network of candidates, clients, and industry contacts is crucial for sourcing top talent and securing successful placements. 🌐 Resilience and Persistence: Traveling can be physically and mentally demanding, requiring resilience and persistence to overcome challenges and setbacks. I had my original one-layover trip back turn into three layovers with two delayed flights, resulting in missing one of them and having to catch the next flight... Lucky me I suppose🙃. Likewise, in the recruiting industry, resilience is key to bouncing back from rejections, setbacks, and failures, and staying motivated in the face of obstacles. Embracing Diversity and Inclusion: The many people I interacted with exposed me to people from various backgrounds, ethnicities, and perspectives. These differences need to be celebrated! There can be so many unknown strengths. Embracing diversity and fostering inclusivity is not only important in travel but also in recruiting, where creating diverse and inclusive workplaces leads to innovation, creativity, and better business outcomes. 🤝 I am back in the office now and ready to help my candidates and clients find the right opportunities and people. As always, reach out to me if you are seeking a new role, or looking for quality people for your business! 📲

Spot a Toxic Workplace—Before Accepting the Job When you work in a toxic workplace, the signs can be easy to recognize. Yelling and bullying, lots of gossip, and unsustainable workloads are a few common hallmarks. But identifying toxicity in an organization you don’t yet work for can prove to be tricky. Here are three red flags to watch out for when you’re applying and interviewing for a new job. A bad interview process. Poor communication from recruiters, ghosting, and endless interviews are a few signals that there may be something broken in the company you’re applying to. Other signs include being inflexible on interview dates and times and pressuring candidates to accept offers the day of. What current employees say (and don’t). Listen carefully to the responses current employees give when you ask questions about the role, the specific team you’d be joining, and the overall organization. Watch out for vague or coded answers—and, of course, dodged questions. Don’t be afraid to ask follow-up questions to get more clarity. High turnover. An abundance of job openings could be a sign of growth, but it could also suggest that the company struggles to retain its employees. Track which roles are being posted and how often. If you notice the same roles going up regularly, that can be another red flag that the company’s culture is toxic. These tips are adapted from “How to Tell If a Prospective Workplace Is Toxic,” by Mita Mallick #I.T #developers #administrativeassistant #media #motorvehicleindustry #ngojobs #salescareers #trainers #fmcgjobs #brandmarketing #techcommunity #recruitment Our client a leading transport solutions provider in East Africa is recruiting a General Manager, IT and Digital Transformation. Vulnerability is a Superpower! Inspired by a post by @Maria Emma Isa When we embrace our vulnerabilities and authenticity that’s when we can truly connect and thrive. It’s not always easy to acknowledge struggles and challenges however it’s through these experiences that we learn and grow. After years in HR and payroll, I’m somewhat conditioned to focus more on the needs of others than myself. Talking about me is not easy. Here goes to vulnerability and authenticity….. ✅I am firstly an excellent support person. I thrive on providing support, whether this is admin related, whether this is organizing a project and plotting the steps to completion for the team, or whether this involves providing emotional support to the leader or team; this where I do my best work and I’m happiest. ✅How do I know what support is needed? I listen! I listen with intent to discussions I am part of and listen for clues to provide solutions to problems or offer guidance. ✅I am not a morning person. I appreciate sunrises and the peace this brings to the start of a day. However, my productivity increases as the day progresses. ✅I am confident in who I am and my capabilities. However, I acknowledge that I have been shaped into who I am because of my experiences with others. ✅I love HR and feel extremely privileged to have worked in this field for more than 25 years. I have worked with people from all backgrounds and cultures and learnt so much from listening to their stories and experiences. I am enriched and fulfilled through the various HR roles I have held. ✅I also love figures. I worked in the field of finance before I cross trained to the field of HR. I love people and figure related activities equally. ✅My purpose is to help others. I strive to make a difference in the lives of those I interact with daily. If you have read my post last week, you know that I've decided to combine birdwatching fun facts with business insights into hiring remotely. 🌍 I've also officially landed on a name for this series... Beak to Business! 🐤 What do you think? So, today's edition of #BeaktoBusiness will offer you some insights into the Abyssinian Roller (the what?) and one of its home countries, #Nigeria. 🇳🇬 #HR Leaders and Managers, are you planning to hire #freelancers and #contractors in Nigeria? 👀 Here's what you should know beforehand: Why Nigeria? Home to Africa’s largest economy, Nigeria has a wealth of skilled workers, especially in #tech. 💻 If you're looking for a talent hotspot, #Lagos, Nigeria’s largest city, has been called “the Silicon Valley of Africa" and you'll definitely find your next superstar hire there.❗ You can always run into trouble when #misclassifying your workers, even in Nigeria (as I sometimes stumble upon companies in #DACH that believe #misclassification is only a thing in #Germany!). So make sure that you have outlined the responsibilities accordingly within a #compliant contract. If that sounds like something you don't want to deal with - Remote can help! If you're struggling to find the right #talent, maybe hit up Weh'yee Barkon. He seems to be the expert on my timeline specialised in finding senior talent across #Africa. 🌟 Now the part we have ALL been waiting for...the Abyssinian Roller. I have to admit, before I started writing this, I had absolutely no idea about this bird. But that's the point of this series. We learn together. 😌 They look absolutely majestic with their striking colours, but if you actually listen to their calls, they sound like a bird who's been chain-smoking since its conception. And not only do they sound crazy, they also are incredibly skilled hunters even eating rodents....and the worst part is, they are fearless and will even attack HUMANS by diving and rolling. Don't ask me what that looks like because neither have I seen that before, nor do I want to experience it. 😅 You see, not all birds have beautiful stories like the White Stork from last week, no, sometimes even birds are just crazy. 😁 What do you think of this week's edition of Beak to Business? Let me know in the comments. 🙌 Photo cred: Christoph Moning
