Here’s your game plan when your child refuses every food you offer ⬇️ If you have a toddler, there are going to be hard dinner moments - because there are going to be hard moments in EVERY situation. Follow @peasandhoppiness for more tips to make mealtime easier and follow these steps: 1. First, make sure their basic needs are met: Are they exhausted? Sick? Is your child TOO hungry? Do they just need a hug? Sometimes fixing these basic biological needs can turn dinnertime around! 2. Second, always offer a “safe” food at the meal. A “safe” food is one which you know your child will eat, so even if they refuse the main meal they still have an option for something to eat if they’re hungry. What if it’s STILL not working? 3. It’s time to set boundaries! Here’s a helpful script to follow: 1. Empathize with their request, then 2. Hold your boundary It might look like this: “You really want to play with your trucks right now. It’s so fun to play! Right now it’s time for dinner. You don’t have to eat dinner, but you need to sit in your high chair. Would you like to climb in your high chair or do you want me to fly you in?” Yes, this will be super hard - especially the first few times. But if you’re consistent, I promise it gets easier! Remember the division of responsibility: it’s your job to offer food and it’s your child’s job to decide if they’re going to eat. The reason they’re refusing every food might be because they’re not very hungry! If you’d like to learn more, see this blog post with 7 Tips to Prevent and Reverse Picky Eating: https://lnkd.in/gE8n5SGv Most importantly, remember: you’re doing great. It feels hard because it IS hard. You got this. You can do hard things.
