Microsoft+OpenAI are reinventing internet search (coming soon). A return to serendipity and a reshaping of SEO and SEM. In the past, we searched for definitions in dictionaries and encyclopedias, and along the way, we would stumble upon many other things, learn, and wander. With Google Search, a simple question yields relevant links. With AI-powered search, we can ask simple or complex, even very complex questions, and receive rich answers. I see the glass as half full.

Google faces escalating costs with the rapid growth of spam and the impending adoption of generative AI in SERPs. Implementing SGE incurs significantly higher costs compared to current methods, potentially impacting ad revenue as searchers’ needs are met more quickly reducing the number of placement opportunities. #seoconsultant One approach to reducing costs I’ve observed is a more stringent policy for what gets included in Google’s index. Anecdotally, clients with complex business models using template pages are seeing more frequent deindexing, even for pages that have been stable for years. #seoprofessional In some cases, JavaScript is the culprit. However, Google has already figured out how to deal with sites with high amounts of injection. Google should identify these pages, add them to the render queue and crawl them after the data has been injected. #seo So why is this not happening? Could this be another resource that Google is struggling to manage efficiently with the growing amount of spam? #SEOspecialist Being deindexed is a nightmare for website owners and SEO professionals. It’s like being taken out of the game entirely. #digitalmarketer However, experience has taught me that aligning with Google’s initiatives can significantly benefit our clients’ sites. #marketer The solution is straightforward: schema markup. Aside from aiding search engines in understanding content more efficiently, it can also provide a great cost-saving for Google. #marketing Schema markup aids Google’s crawlers and machine learning algorithms in understanding web content more efficiently and cost-effectively. #digitalmarketing It can play a role in reducing Google’s operational costs. The premise is that aiding Google in minimizing the resources needed for crawling, indexing and understanding your site will lead to improved visibility.

How does Google work in 2024? Search engines are evolving with AI and new algorithms, but the foundations remain the same. Google has 5 main stages: 1. Crawling: Discover and collect web pages 2. Rendering: Analyse how pages look and function 3. Indexing: Organise and store page information 4. Ranking: Determine relevance and order of pages 5. Querying: Display relevant results for user searches I've created the diagram below to show this process. Remember: If Google can't discover your pages, your content won't be crawled or rendered. Pages are discovered through: - The submitted sitemap - Manual page submission - Internal links (i.e. hub pages) If Google can't crawl or render your content, your page won't be indexed. Possible issues: - Network issues - Problems with the server - Not accessible without logging in - Robots.txt code preventing access - Disallowed for crawling by the owner If Google can't index your page, you won't rank in the search results for relevant queries. Possible issues: - Low-quality content - Irrelevant content to the query - Code preventing indexing (noindex) - Design of the site making it difficult If Google doesn't rank your page, you won't show in Google or get any organic traffic. SEO helps your website pass each step. Remember these stages next time you're publishing a page or struggling to rank in Google. #SEO #GoogleSearch #DigitalMarketing #SearchEngineOptimization #WebCrawling #Indexing #RankingFactors #ContentStrategy #WebsiteOptimization #TechSEO #SearchEngineRanking #OrganicTraffic #GoogleAlgorithm #MarketingTips #AIInSEO #WebDevelopment #ContentMarketing #WebsiteRanking #OnlineVisibility #GoogleSearchTips #SERP

More information on the recent Google algorithm changes. This one is going to be spicy today: This nugget is very important-- Google's new algorithmic update claims to draw rankings from "a range of high quality sites, including small or independent sites that are creating useful, original content." For me, I've really focused on the "original content" part of this statement. Over the last few months, I've been told over and over by non-SEO professionals that they can automate blogs through AI that will increase their rankings. Of course, I've met this with instant skepticism. If you read this latest quote from Google, not so fast. Google is going to prioritize smaller independent sites (so small businesses and thought leaders) creating original content. There is nothing original about AI content. I see a business or personal brand that relies on AI generated blog content as taking a huge risk. My personal belief is that Google will always prioritize user generated original content in their algorithm-- and they may have just said that without directly referencing AI. If you use AI exclusively, I'd love to have a conversation and follow your keyword rankings over the next 12 months. My guess is that they're going to fall way down in search positions. #SEO #Googleupdates

The SEO in me views this as an improved ability to challenge Google and serve Bing of course, but at an Enterprise level this will also give companies the ability to anchor off citations and use the links to validate the accuracy of responses (on top of the obvious usefulness). https://lnkd.in/gaR3HhSd

"Think smarter, not harder." 🧠 NotebookLM just dropped the "experimental" label with millions of users 🚀 In case you missed it... NotebookLM is an AI-powered 'research assistant' that helps organize and analyze information. It is incredible for digesting content and quickly becoming one of my favorite SEO research tools. Here are some of my recent uses 👇 1) Summarized the 32-page DOJ Google lawsuit filing into key takeaways. 2) Dug into this week's big Google Shopping update and asked about AI's major benefits and drawbacks in online shopping. 3) Generated an Audio Overview to listen to a blog post in a conversational format while doing admin work. It's a game-changer for understanding complex info, and I'm already a little worried Google will kill it someday (RIP to all the promising Google projects before 💀) Is anyone else using NotebookLM? I’d love to hear your favorite use cases! 👋
