One of my favourite things about AOT Technologies is our Women of AOT group. I have the privilege of coordinating the group, which means that I get to see firsthand how it creates meaningful impact for the women who work here. At the end of August, a few of us here in Victoria attended a networking event with Island Women in Science & Technology (iWIST). It was inspiring to connect with industry leaders in a dedicated space for mentorship and knowledge sharing. Watching our team members engage in discussions about career growth, technical challenges, and leadership opportunities reminded me why these focused professional development events matter so much in tech. Yesterday, we switched gears completely with a virtual game night. Between rounds of Codenames and lots of laughs, we built genuine connections. These moments of casual interaction are just as crucial as our formal development programs – they're where trust builds and support networks grow. What strikes me most about Women of AOT is how it addresses multiple dimensions of professional life. Yes, it's about career advancement and skill development. But it's also about creating a community where our women in STEM can be authentic, share challenges, celebrate wins, and lift each other up. Week 6 of the Cajigo 100 Women in Tech Accelerator Programme we explored “Decoding Confidence and Raising Our Confidence Game,” and it couldn’t have come at a better time for me. It really made me stop and think about how I approach confidence and where I tend to struggle the most. In general, I like to think of myself as a confident person. But when it comes to interviews, I often feel that confidence slip away. It’s hard to fully showcase my skills and abilities in those moments, and I end up doubting myself. This session reminded me that I’m not alone in feeling this way - and that confidence isn’t something you just have; it’s something you build over time with practice. Carlotta Zorzi-Chapman shared a story that really stuck with me. When someone told her to “slow down,” she confidently replied, “Yes, I will slow down, but not now!” That line hit me hard - it’s such a powerful reminder that it’s okay to own your ambition and push forward, even when others might not understand. Reflecting on previous sessions of our program, I’ve noticed a strong connection between confidence, imposter phenomenon, and positive thinking. To me, these three form a triangle of influence: when you work on one, it can positively impact the others. By consciously addressing all three, we can create a cycle of growth and self-belief that keeps us moving forward. 💡 The real question is: how do we make this triangle work for us? A huge thank you to Rav Bumbra and Cajigo for creating such a safe and supportive space to learn and grow, and to Carlotta Zorzi-Chapman for being such an inspiring speaker. Exciting Updates from the University of Nevada, Reno College of Business Women in Tech (WiT) Mentoring Workshop! Mentors and Student Mentees met to evaluate last year’s pilot program and reimagine the program for even greater success. It was amazing to see the group reconnect, share their experiences, and collaborate on innovative ideas for the future of mentoring in the WiT community. Workshop Highlights: #1 Introducing Panel Mentoring: We explored diverse and engaging topics to guide mentoring circles. #2 One-to-One Mentoring Evolution: Ideas for peer mentoring emphasized stronger personalization and support. #3 Strengthening Connections: Strategies emerged to deepen relationships between Women Tech Leaders in the Reno area, the University of Nevada, Reno WiT Student Organization, and UNR's WiT initiative. This gathering was more than a brainstorming and design session—it was a testament to the strength of our growing network. We are thrilled about the actionable ideas generated and can’t wait to implement these updates to build an even more impactful program. I recently had the privilege of attending the Karren Brady's Women in Business & Tech Expo, and it left a lasting impact on me. The keynotes from remarkable women were filled with insights, and I’m walking away with so much - both professionally and personally ☺️ After two days of listening to inspiring female leaders, it reignited my motivation to keep learning, upskill, and always put my best foot forward. My Top 3 Takeaways 👏: Personal – Listening to Katie Piper’s story was incredibly moving. She reminded me that life can change in an instant, so it's essential to do something meaningful with your time. Her message about being courageous and unapologetically yourself was definitely a reminder I needed to hear. Professional – Dr Tracy Rea Chartered Fellow CIPD’s advice to "treat every job as an apprenticeship" was an eye-opener. It’s a refreshing perspective that emphasises lifelong learning. No one has all the answers, and it’s okay to not know everything - what’s important is to stay curious and never be afraid to ask questions - Also something I needed to be reminded of! Both – During the Pace Integration Panel, one of the most powerful insights was the shared belief that the unique traits women bring - like empathy and emotional intelligence - often perceived as less assertive, are actually critical to the workplace, success and real-life. These qualities drive morale and foster innovation within teams, ultimately leading to better outcomes in business and tech. One of the event's standout aspects was the strong sense of community 🥰 There was no gatekeeping! The openness to share knowledge and experiences made it feel truly collaborative. Every woman genuinely wanted to see others succeed, promoting support and solidarity in the ‘Women in Business and Tech’ community. This spirit of mutual support reinforced the importance of lifting each other up, celebrating everyone's wins, and breaking down barriers together.
