CDP recently launched a briefing for Directors of Financial Institutions, emphasizing how water risks are ubiquitous across all sectors. The briefing underscores that financial institutions must go beyond existing policies to address water-related financial risks effectively. The #CalltoAction from CDP urges Boards to prioritize #waterissues alongside carbon concerns. Boards are advised to take specific steps to guide businesses towards a more comprehensive approach to water management. These steps include adopting a systems approach, assessing risks and opportunities, leveraging influence for sustainable water practices, and prioritizing transparency through documentation and disclosure. By embracing these recommendations, businesses can not only benefit communities and protect the environment but also enhance long-term resilience and profitability. It's time to navigate the troubled waters ahead with a clear focus on water issues. Read it here: https://lnkd.in/degCfp3S #CDP #WaterRisk #BusinessResilience #Sustainability #Transparency

Soil pollution in India is a critical issue that significantly impacts the food supply and public health. Recent surveys indicate that 146.8 million hectares of land in India is degraded due to the overuse of chemical fertilizers and improper irrigation practices. The 2019-20 Soil Survey reveals severe deficiencies in essential soil nutrients, which negatively affect crop yields and food safety. According to 2023-24 data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, 67% of soil samples across India are low in nitrogen, while only 4% have high nitrogen levels. Additionally, out of 50 million soil samples from across India, 97% were nitrogen deficient, 85% lacked organic carbon, 83% were deficient in phosphorus, and 71% were low in potassium. This degradation, largely caused by excessive use of chemical fertilizers and poor irrigation practices, reduces crop yields and increases groundwater toxicity, posing serious health risks from contaminated food. My name is Manas Shukla, and I am studying MCom Extension in Business Analytics at UNSW. The data story that I have made is around Soil Pollution in India because I feel it is one of those problems which don't come into the limelight as frequently as it should be. My topic for COMM5501 project is "Soil Degradation in India". The SDG for this context is SDG 2, particularly target 2.4 In term, after studying COMM5501 as a part of my core subjects I can say that this course has definitely impacted my ability to convert raw data into insightful stories. This course has also taught me how providing feedback can have such great impact to the data story. For the self-assessment, I would give myself 8.5 out of 10. Thanks Poon Leung for being such an excellent lecturer. I really liked the way you teach. I would also like to thank my teammates for improving my data story through feedback.
