"Cooped up" is NOT in our vocabulary. At Outward Farms, we believe in giving our hens the freedom to roam, forage, and thrive in the open air. 🌞 Our organic practices ensure our ladies have the space and freedom they need to live healthy, happy lives—because we know that when hens are well cared for, they produce the highest-quality eggs. 🌿🥚 Animal welfare and sustainability are at the core of what we do. By providing our hens with a spacious, natural environment, we’re not only raising better eggs but also setting a new standard for responsible farming. Join us in supporting sustainable, pasture-raised farming where animal care and quality go hand in hand. https://lnkd.in/e2vwagCr #OutwardFarms #OhioEggs #SustainableAgriculture #Agribusiness #AnimalWelfare #RaisedToRoam #LeadershipInAg

We are currently running the largest research trial ever conducted in Singapore on saline tilapia, also known as Mozambique tilapia or Straits Fish or O. mossambicus 🐟. Our team at Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory started by individually measuring half a ton of fish and is now working to pinpoint the "sweet spots" where seawater farm productivity can be enhanced without compromising animal welfare. This trial is designed to optimize farming and husbandry protocols for local farmers, paving the way for more sustainable and efficient aquaculture practices in the region. #Aquaculture #SustainableFarming #Tilapia #SeawaterRAS #StraitsFish #Innovation #Singapore Weiqiang Chung Jessalin N.

🎙April's first WiSA interview is with Tonje Osmundsen, a research professor working with aquaculture research in Norway, and internationally. Tonje was one of the keynote speakers at SAIC's Sustainable Aquaculture Summit last year, and she has studied many topics on the interaction between the aquaculture industry and society, aiming to contribute to making the industry a more positive actor ‘of and in society’. 📣 Tonje says, "In the next decade I believe we will see that sustainability issues are moving even further up on the agenda, including an increased understanding of how to ensure good animal welfare." 🔗 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eHk5vjxC #DiversityMakesUsWiSA #WomenInAquaculture #AquacultureCareers

💡Did you know? Aquatic animal health is a major constraint on sustainable aquatic food farming systems, with global annual disease-related losses at ~USD 6 billion. Research and capacity sharing on these diseases are critical. Despite the urgency, WorldFish lacked this important research area, until 2014. Follow the journey of our aquatic animal health program under the leadership of Chadag Mohan, who just retired after a decade at WorldFish, and our new lead, David Verner-Jeffreys, and our collaborations with CGIAR under the OneHealth Initiative. Cage-Free: What It Means for Animal Welfare Cage-free refers to farming practices where animals, typically hens, are not confined to small cages. Instead, they have more space to roam, lay eggs, and engage in natural behaviors. This approach improves their quality of life, allowing them to walk, spread their wings, and interact with other hens, which is not possible in traditional caged systems. Cage-free farming is part of a broader movement towards more humane and sustainable agriculture. It addresses issues related to animal welfare, such as stress and physical harm from confinement. Many consumers prefer cage-free eggs, seeing them as a more ethical choice compared to conventional eggs produced in restrictive environments. If you’re interested in learning more about how cage-free practices fit into sustainable living, check out our blog article to see how we’re incorporating these principles into our self-sustainable city project. #CageFree #AnimalWelfare #SustainableLiving #EthicalFarming #HumaneAgriculture #SelfSustainableCity https://lnkd.in/gcsTtyTy

🏆 A Special Recognition Award in Sustainable Food & Farming category was presented to Spanish producer Finca Regenerativa Valle del Conde at this year’s Good Farm Animal Welfare Awards. Its olive farm has been dedicated to regenerative agriculture since 2019 when its owners realised that farming could be done differently - by not only respecting the ecosystem but actively protecting, restoring and enhancing it. 🐑 Finca Regenerativa Valle del Conde’s primary focus has been on protecting and enriching the soil, which it views as its most valuable resource. Central to its system are sheep, whose grazing enriches the soil and fosters vibrant, life-filled meadows that support a thriving ecosystem with increased biodiversity. In just five years, Finca Regenerativa Valle del Conde has transformed monoculture olive fields into multi-species grasslands, rich with wildlife – from birds such as owls and vultures to a wide variety of insects. This has resulted in a flourishing ecosystem and high-quality olive oil with an exceptional nutritional profile.
