🤝C o o r d i n a t i n g A c t i o n🤝 among sub-national women‘s rights networks Project experiences.Know-how. At a glance. Topic: Gender Equality Limited engagement, cohesion and coordination of grassroots and community-based Women’s Rights Organisations (WROs) at the sub-national levels affected activism and strategic advocacy for promotion of women’s rights and gender equality. This limited the extent to which issues at the local level were reflected and fed into national level advocacy. In addition, there were no mechanisms for sustaining initiatives beyond the project life, or replicating and cascading them to other areas, especially lower levels not previously targeted. The solution was to coordinate collective community-centred action among District Women‘s Networks, facilitating their growth and participation, cohesion, ownership, and sustainability of initiatives. 🌍Partner organisation - Uganda Women’s Network (UWONET) 👉https://www.uwonet.or.ug/ 💬What was the experience? Today we celebrate International Women's Day! At iMPACT direct we try to work on more gender equality in the development sector. Why is this important? Research shows that women-led NGOs, and in particular women of colour, tend to receive less funding than their male or white counterparts.* This inequality hinders their impactful work and potential for growth. This is why we find it important to work together with women-led NGOs. In 2023, 25% of our partner NGOs were women-led, and in 2024 this increased to 58%. We admire their hard work and the impact they make in their communities. 🔗Find all women-led projects here: https://lnkd.in/emNCZGRA 💗 Share this story in your network. On October 11, 1975, a historic moment occurred in the women’s rights movement as **the first International Women’s Conference** took place in **Mexico City**. This landmark event, organized by the United Nations, brought together thousands of women from around the world to discuss pressing issues related to gender equality, women's health, education, and employment rights. The conference was a significant commitment by the international community to acknowledge and address the systemic discrimination faced by women globally. It aimed to create a unified platform for women's issues and ultimately foster a sense of solidarity among women from different cultures and backgrounds. Over 2,500 delegates attended, representing diverse perspectives and experiences, which enriched the discussions and outcomes of the conference. During the conference, participants engaged in workshops, discussions, and forums, exploring topics such as reproductive rights, equal pay, educational access, and political participation. The event led to the creation of the **Mexico City Plan of Action**, a comprehensive framework with recommendations aimed at improving the status of women and promoting gender equality. The impact of this conference was profound. It helped to raise awareness of women’s rights and set the stage for subsequent global initiatives, including the establishment of **International Women’s Day** and further UN-led efforts to improve gender equality. The discussions laid the groundwork for the development of various policies and initiatives that would address issues of violence against women, maternal health, and economic empowerment. In the years following the conference, the momentum generated propelled significant advancements for women’s rights and was instrumental in inspiring local and global movements advocating for change. Women began organizing more vigorously within their own countries, leading to legislative reforms and a greater emphasis on gender equality. As we commemorate this important event from October 11, let’s reflect on the progress made and the journey still ahead in the fight for women’s rights and empowerment. The Mexico City conference exemplifies the strength of women coming together to advocate for their rights and the impact that collective action can have on society. **What steps can we take today to continue the fight for women’s empowerment and ensure that the momentum gained from historic events like the Mexico City Conference carries forward?** #WomensRights #InternationalWomensConference #GenderEquality #Empowerment #Solidarity #HistoricalImpact #Inspiration

Last week, I had the honor of attending the #Beijing+30 Regional Review Meeting hosted by UN Women in Geneva. This event gathered over 150 participants from 56 Member States, as well as representatives from civil society, youth, academia, and experts across the UNECE region. 📝Key takeaways 🔹Gender equality as a cornerstone: Achieving gender equality requires both political will and investment. Priority areas were identified, including gender parity in governance, closing the digital gender gap, and transforming the care economy. 🔹The role of youth and feminist organizations: The ongoing involvement of youth and feminist organizations is crucial for ensuring that progress is both inclusive and sustainable. 🔹Turning commitments into action: Success lies in making tangible improvements in the lives of women and girls; policies must be backed by funding to create real impact. 🔹Supporting grassroots movements: Governments and the international community must prioritize and collaborate with grassroots feminist movements and women’s rights organizations. 🔹Adopting intersectional approaches: It is essential to apply an intersectional lens to effectively address the disproportionate impacts of global crises. 🔹Promoting women’s leadership and accountability: Engaging women in leadership roles and ensuring accountability are key to achieving the transformative goals set forth by the Beijing Platform. Attending this meeting was an inspiring experience, and I cherished sharing it with my dear friends and partners committed to gender equality: Anna Brew, Michela Rossettini and Pedro Ivo Oliveira.

🌟 Collaborating on the FEMACT-Cities project, the Municipality of Postojna is committed to achieving #genderequality at local level. We spoke to the coordinator of the local working group, mag. Anita Knez, who gave us an overview of their approach to creating a more #inclusive and #equitable #community for all. 📝 You are working on a Local Action Plan. This will be based on a review of European policies and the local situation in the field of gender equality. The document will outline actions over the next five years. What activities are you planning? 🤝 As the local working group, we will become a commission dedicated to advancing gender equality. Our primary goal is to heighten public awareness regarding the obstacles encountered by women and other vulnerable groups, while also empowering them. All activities will follow these objectives. ✨ We will organize various events to raise awareness about stereotyping and violence against women. We will carry out awareness-raising activities in kindergartens and primary schools. We will organize "Girl Days" and "Boy Days" to inform the public about traditional male and female occupations. We will hold exhibitions addressing traditional social roles. 👧🧑 We also plan to publish Portraits of Successful Women through our channels and initiate a collection campaign to gather supplies for our Safe House. We also plan to support co-funding of vacation care and house help as well as advocate for a more gender-balanced naming of streets and squares. The FEMACT-Cities project is implemented under the URBACT IV programme and co-funded by the European Union. #FemactCities #EquityCities #UrbanaPolitics #Urbact #GenderEquality #WorldWomensDay #EUprojects

Women's Day 2024, which coincides with the 30th anniversary of democracy in South Africa, is a momentous occasion dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the strides made in advancing women's rights and development. This day underscores the significant progress in gender equality, highlighting the invaluable contributions women have made to society across various fields. From breaking barriers in politics, business, science, and the arts to advocating for social justice and community development, women's impact is profound and far-reaching. However, this celebration also serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges women continue to face, including gender-based violence, unequal pay, and limited access to education and healthcare. Efforts to address these issues remain crucial, as the nation reflects on past achievements and looks forward to a future where gender equality is fully realized. Women's Day 2024 is not only a celebration but also a call to action, inspiring continued commitment to creating a more just and equitable society for all. #WomensMonth2024 #WomensDay2024 #WomenEconomicPower #LeaveNoOneBehind #BuildingTheEasternCapeWeWant
