Sofia Rodrigues Teixeira concludes the European IGNITION Project update Tyndall National Institute this week which focuses on IMPROVING GREEN INNOVATION FOR THE BLUE REVOLUTION. This research is important for Ireland’s and European Blue Economies. The IGNITION Project aims to gather new knowledge in animal welfare in the context of #climatechange, while assessing and developing new strategies to improve #animalhealth through non-invasive tools. It was my pleasure to provide them with tour and overview of Tyndall’s €250million campus and Researcher laboratories. The increasing demand of high-quality animal protein by a growing world population has put extreme pressure on livestock products, and in particular, on the #aquaculture sector. There is also an increase on the general public awareness of production systems’ #environmental #sustainability and #animalwelfare. Recently, the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and EU Commission's Climate Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra visited Stockholm and made field trips to forestry sites to discuss a range of issues, including how the Swedish forest industry can contribute to achieving the EU's climate goals. 🌊 Exciting Update from our #FINO2 German pilot! 🌊 #ULTFARMS is pleased to announce a significant advancement at our #FINO2 #German pilot site in the #BalticSea. 🙌🏻A modular, multi-purpose system for cultivating the green macroalgae, Ulva, has successfully installed at the research platform #FINO2. 👉🏻This milestone involved seeding two systems with juvenile #Ulva, marking a critical step in demonstrating the technical feasibility and biological suitability of our #innovative #design for #algaecultivation. 🙌🏻The collaboration with the University of Gothenburg has been essential in this endeavor, where local #algaestrains were analyzed and scaled up for aquaculture applications. 👉🏻Simultaneously, we have evaluated the performance of our "nature-inclusive-design" installation. NEAMO emerged as the winner of the 7th #Cassini Hackathon in Latvia implemented by EUSPA - EU Agency for the Space Programme, which focused on using satellite data for sustainable development. Their innovative project addresses a critical challenge in aquaculture: preventing disease outbreaks in offshore fish farms. #NEAMO's solution uses satellite data from the Copernicus program to monitor environmental factors like water temperature and oxygen levels, which influence disease risks. By integrating these data with historical disease patterns, the team developed a predictive model to issue early warnings, helping fish farms mitigate disease outbreaks and reduce economic losses. 👉 🐟 #AQUATECHInn4.0 keeps going!!!🏃♀️ ❗ ❗ ❗ We have just celebrated the 2nd Transnational Meeting in Bologna, as planned, and this time UNIBO has been the host of this meeting. The result has been extraordinary. The 14 partners of the Consortium have been present and have explicitly contributed to enriching the tasks of the Project with their contributions. We have a large consortium made up of experts of the highest level from aquaculture producer organizations as #API,#AMA, #APA, #CNC, Universities #UCHCEU, #USC-CiTIUS, #UNIBO, #RTEU y #UAlg, and Technology Centres specialized in aquaculture: #MARE , #CCMAR y #Fishsethogroup, y #ESchoolGroup, which is a Greek VET Centre of reference, as well as #SGS which is the leader of the Consortium. In this meeting SGS presented the Deliverable Management and administrative guidelines (MAG), and started with the development of the structure for the training course: AQUATECHInn 4.0, defining the priorities and accompanying activities.
