Mark your calendars: On Friday Nov 1, 2024 (10:00 AM - 3:00 PM EDT), the Commission will hold a Commissioner-led technical conference to discuss generic issues related to the co-location of large loads at generating facilities.  "Broadly, issues to be explored at the technical conference may include whether co-located loads require the provision of wholesale transmission or ancillary services, related cost allocation issues, and potential resource adequacy, reliability, affordability, market, and customer impacts."

On 12 March, we attended the conference "Transitioning Energy in the Mediterranean", organised by World Energy Council and Organisation Méditerranéenne de l'Energie et du Climat in collaboration with Edison. Despite the geopolitical crisis, the Euro-Mediterranean region lies at the centre of ongoing energy dynamics and holds a key role in energy transition and climate issues. Highlighting the importance of interconnections and interoperability of the systems, MEDREG President and ANRE - The Moroccan Electricity Regulatory Authority President Abdellatif BARDACH affirmed that the presence of regional organizations such as MEDREG is vital in facilitating the energy transition, helping countries navigate the legal complexities and charting a path towards clean energy. He asserted that the regulatory framework can enhance energy security, connect countries through sustainable energy exchange, and unlock economic growth for all. In addition, while countries are embracing renewable energy options, we need regulations that not only ensure grid stability and fair competition but also actively incentivise and facilitate the integration of these new sources.
