After a week of discussions, the 2024 APEC Leaders' Machu Picchu Declaration has been officially issued 🌎✍️. The negotiation of this key document also involved MINCETUR Perú, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and MEF 🇵🇪. The Declaration includes key references to trade facilitation 📦✈️, highlighting the importance of digitalization, interoperability and interconnectivity📈🤝 📄✨. 6. We reaffirm our commitment to advancing Phase Three of the Supply Chain Connectivity Framework Action Plan and enhancing supply chain connectivity to minimize adverse effects of disruptions, lower costs, facilitate trade and investment in the aim of establishing secure, resilient, sustainable, inclusive supply chains, and encourage capacity building to support these efforts. We will accelerate the full implementation of the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement and promote trade facilitation through the use of digitalization, automation, international standards where relevant, while strengthening border agency cooperation through existing mechanisms. We aim to enhance transparency, efficiency, and reliability of trade by improving single window systems, digitalizing key processes, and promoting cross-border paperless trade, including through exchanging information on different paperless trade systems, electronic authentication and the recognition of electronic trade-related documents, such as the electronic bill of lading and electronic invoice. (…) 13. We welcome economies’ endeavors to advance connectivity in the APEC region. We remain committed to implementing the APEC Connectivity Blueprint (2015-2025) by strengthening physical, institutional, and people-to-people connectivity as well as take advantage of digital connectivity. We encourage economies to intensify efforts to promote regional, sub-regional and remote area connectivity. We also reaffirm the importance of quality infrastructure development and investment

I would like to thank Tim Van Anderlecht for his hospitality shown yesterday where we had chance to connect with Presidents of the European bi-lateral and tri-lateral Chambers of Commerce in Türkiye during a luncheon at #PalaisdeBelgique . I would like to also thank all Chairwoman and Chairmen and board members of chambers participating to the luncheon. Chambers are doing utmost to facilitate improvement of trade relations between Türkiye and EU. As emphasized by Turkish Trade Minister #ÖmerBolat yesterday in Germany Türkiye's strategic goal is to become a member of #EuropeanUnion. Council of the European Union authorized the European Commission to prepare a report regarding modernization of the #CustomUnion and the report was prepared. #Türkiye expects this report to be discussed and adopted at the leaders' summit of the Council of the European Union next week. The India-Cambodia Joint Business Council (ICJBC) has been officially inaugurated in New Delhi, marking a significant milestone in the economic relationship between India and Cambodia. The ICJBC, facilitated by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry, aims to create a robust platform for dialogue and partnership between Indian and Cambodian businesses. The council is expected to play a critical role in identifying and leveraging opportunities to enhance bilateral trade and investment flows. The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) in India and the Cambodian Oknha Association (COA) in Cambodia have been appointed as the coordinating bodies for the ICJBC. The council plans to organize annual meetings alternately in India and Cambodia, ensuring continuous dialogue and cooperation between the business sectors. Australia-ASEAN Golden Jubilee Summit - by Cmde. Lalit Kapur Read: cutt.ly/Cw29J8TO Australia commemorated the Golden Jubilee of Australia-ASEAN relations by hosting a special summit at Melbourne on March 6, 2024. A Melbourne Declaration and a Leaders’ Vision Statement were adopted at the Summit, largely reiterating shared positions and thrust areas that have been pronounced earlier. Australia and Vietnam upgraded their relationship to the ‘comprehensive strategic partnership’ level. There was a spate of announcements from Australia on steps to increase developmental cooperation with ASEAN, as well as with Vietnam. In terms of Australia-ASEAN economic relations, while trade has remained on the upswing. Australia’s investment in ASEAN has lagged, constituting just 3.3% of its total investment world-wide. Moreover, the overwhelming majority of this investment is concentrated in Singapore and Malaysia. Australia has, therefore, announced a new economic strategy for Southeast Asia. The objective is to triple two-way trade by 2040, while an Investment Financing Facility of A$ 2 billion has been set up to incentivise Australian business investments in Southeast Asia. The author concludes that while the Special Summit has marked some progress on enhancing economic relations, initiatives on the security front are lagging behind. With Australia’s security alliance with the US standing out in sharp contrast to the long held preference of Southeast Asian nations to assume primary responsibility for managing regional security and stability, this is only to be expected. #ASEAN #Australia #southeastasia #internationalaffairs
