How amazing is this?! Our #WildlifeDog Filson detected a tiny hole filled with scats in British Columbia earlier this year, at the John Prince Research Forest. When researchers put a camera at the location, look who they found! We're on another marten project in Oregon at the moment, with NCASI, Inc., this time sniffing for endangered Humboldt marten. Learn about previous marten research we were involved with in this PeerJ publication: "Predicted distribution of a rare and understudied forest carnivore: Humboldt marten (Martes caurina humboldtensis)," https://lnkd.in/gEqqGSiu.

Mark Ware Jr, Matt Karst, and I found 4th instars and adult spotted lanternfly (#SLF) in Delaware County, PA last week. First identified in 2014 they have spread to several states. While not particularly deadly to ornamental trees, they produce copious amounts of honeydew (on which sooty mold grows) that can; reduce enjoyment of outdoor spaces, block photosynthetic activity, and rob plants of vascular system fluids. Learn how to manage these invasive insects with Rainbow Ecoscience SLF Management Guide: https://lnkd.in/e2W-jaFE

One of the most satisfying skills I developed through the UW Wetland Science and Management Program was the ability to identify plants and plant communities. As a means of practice I've started surveying plants in local parks, and occasionally they offer up surprising specimens. For example, Solstice Park in West Seattle, a small park with slope wetland elements, supports narrow leaf willow (Salix exigua) - the only such example of this plant I've yet to observe this side of the Cascades! In total, Solstice park has examples of more than 40 plants we learned as part of the program.
