The longstanding acoustic issues with David Geffen Hall were the primary reason it underwent a $550 million renovation. “Tear the place down and start over again” was the blunt advice of one conductor. The revamped hall—home of the prestigious New York Philharmonic—features improved sound quality and intimacy. However, while musicians and guest artists praise the hall's clarity and resonance, some critics are not so charmed. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gzrHqqqw #DavidGeffenHall #HallAcoustics

Of course numbers are beautiful!
“Why are numbers beautiful? It’s like asking why is Ludwig van Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony beautiful. If you don't see why, someone can't tell you. I know numbers are beautiful. If they aren't beautiful, nothing is..” Paul Erdős

The 2024 recipient of the Innovative Concert of the Year Award at OPUS Klassik, Dorothee Kalbhenn, believes that the institution she works with "should behave like a good neighbour, who cares about the people around them.” The idea of her award-winning ‘Orchestra Society’ encourages communication and bringing together different groups to achieve a common result. Progress and empowerment fuels a necessity for collaboration between a wide range of players; large arts organisations, concert halls, opera houses, orchestras - and associations, schools, and refugee centers. Dorothee Kalbhenn, who is the Program Director of the Konzerthaus Berlin and on the 2025 Classical:NEXT Jury, and musician and project designer Kian Jazdi discuss why small and large institutions should team up, listen and pay attention to each other. #classicalmusic #innovation #collaboration

200 years ago today, on 7 May 1824 in Vienna, Ludwig van Beethoven conducted the premiere of his 9th Symphony. It was therefore fitting today that we ended a two day workshop in #Tällberg by listening and watching a recording of a glorious performance at the Royal Albert Hall from the BBC Proms in 2012, with the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra and Daniel Barenboim. The early 1820s were a time of great upheavals and shifts, just like the 2020s. Here are some questions for us to reflect on now: 🎼 Which of today’s artistic creations will or should be celebrated in May 2224? 🎒 Of all the ideas, ideals and solutions that we hold dear today, which should we absolutely carry with us into the future… 🗑️ …and which should we leave behind or throw away? 🌏 And of course, what will the world - and the planet - look like in 200 years?

What would Beethoven do today? Bonn is the place of birth and artistic development of Ludwig van Beethoven. This is were a great talent could turn into an iconic, genre-defining artist, whose work we still adore and cherish. But what would a super-talent like Beethoven create with music as an art form in todays world, with todays aesthetics and technologies? How can we create an environment for the development of contemporary music as a vital and world-embracing genre in the middle of society, not just some fringe and very-special-interest activity. In the spirit of Beethoven, music has to be both daringly contemporary and centered in emotional experience. How can we create an environment in Bonn, where such innovative ideas and talents can flourish, just as they did 250 years ago in Beethovens time? Our contemporary contribution to this question over at Beethovenfest Bonn is our new fellowship program, for which we just opened a call for submissions of ideas and projects. We think we can create a plattform for that groundbreaking big project and new idea of the Beethovens of today. Please share and apply :-)

1moGood post. This is quote from the article sums up a problem I've had in the past providing school students with excellent acoustic clarity: “The sound is honest,” he said. “You hear everything — for better or for worse.”
