🌊⚓️Last Friday, the Association of Lithuanian Stevedoring Companies hosted a press breakfast, providing insights into Klaipėda Port's preliminary cargo handling results for the first half of the year. In H1 2024, Klaipėda Port successfully handled 16.35 million tonnes of cargo, marking a slight increase of 68,000 tonnes compared to the same period last year (16.282 million tonnes), as reported by the Association. This performance signifies a potential turnaround following two years of decline. 💬 "We are witnessing a clear stabilization in cargo volumes, suggesting a promising trend towards growth," Vaidotas Šileika, the president of the Association, shared during the press briefing in Klaipėda. Julius Kirsis, CEO of the Malkų įlankos terminalas, UAB, also noted early indications of a robust grain harvest this year. The initial batches of grain arriving at the port demonstrate promising quality. Kiršis estimates that Lithuania's overall harvest, encompassing pulses and oilseed rape, could reach approximately 8 million tonnes, with about half potentially passing through Klaipėda. 🧷For detailed insights on Klaipėda Port's performance in H1, visit: 🟣 https://lnkd.in/dPHjsfpd 🟣 https://lnkd.in/dQ48xAdm 🟣 https://lnkd.in/dTzeeUBw 🟣https://lnkd.in/dnMDgPZj 🟣https://lnkd.in/dwYiDHar #KlaipėdaPort #CargoHandling

The first barge carrying Lithuanian grain via the Nemunas River has successfully arrived at Klaipėda Port, marking a significant milestone in river transport. This new route is set to become a regular operation, with each barge carrying 1,000–1,300 tons of grain, equivalent to 40–54 truckloads. This initiative not only reduces road traffic but also offers a more cost-effective and efficient way to transport grain. The port authority sees this as a promising step towards greater use of inland waterways for cargo transport in Lithuania. Uzbek Investors to Build Terminal in Poti In the Free Industrial Zone (FIZ) of Poti, a new multimodal logistics terminal, funded by Uzbek investors, will be constructed, covering up to 30 hectares and valued at 50 million lari. The project will be implemented in phases, starting with a frozen goods warehouse (1,000-ton capacity), followed by warehouses for general cargo (5,000 m²), bulk goods (8,000 m²), and a terminal for container and oversized cargo. This terminal will become a key logistics link between Uzbekistan and Europe, facilitating cargo transit in both directions. This project is not the only development in Poti FIZ. A copper concentrate storage terminal, implemented by the Georgian-European company CSG, is also nearing completion, with a cost of 5 million lari. Construction began in 2023, and the first phase is expected to be operational by the end of September 2024. The terminal will import copper concentrates from Latin America and export them to Africa and Asia. Additionally, VG House is working on a project to assemble wooden cottages from imported materials, with an investment of 400,000 lari. Their products are expected to be exported to Canada and the EU in 2024. Furthermore, the Georgian company Kairos Logistics has started building its own multimodal logistics center, which will handle rail wagons and containers, processing up to 300,000 tons of cargo annually. Established in 2009, Poti FIZ spans 300 hectares, with 30% already developed. Over 120 companies operate in the zone, benefiting from favorable tax conditions, making it an attractive logistics hub. #Logistics #Investment #SupplyChain #Poti #Uzbekistan #FIZ #GlobalTrade #Infrastructure

Exciting news and development for Malaysia: the development of a new container port in Port Dickson, Malaysia, is poised to significantly benefit the Malaysian economy. With an investment of 2 billion ringgit (USD425M), this port will be the first in the country to integrate artificial intelligence, enhancing operational efficiency and positioning Malaysia to capture logistics demand amid global supply chain shifts. The port's strategic location along the Malacca Strait, one of the world’s busiest sea lanes, ensures high traffic and connectivity to major industrial regions, boosting Malaysia's global trade standing. The project, led by Tanco Holdings in collaboration with China's CCCC Dredging Co., will feature a 1.8-kilometer jetty and a large container operation area capable of accommodating the largest container ships. The hope is that AI technology will streamline operations by reducing human error, lowering accident rates, and optimizing ship movements and marine operations, which will cut operational costs and minimize environmental impacts. This advanced infrastructure will include automated cranes and self-driving trucks, contributing to a modern, efficient port hub. The port is expected to accelerate economic development in Negeri Sembilan, create job opportunities, and bolster the nation's logistics and marine transport services industry through improved connectivity with major industrial areas. Overall, the port will play a crucial role in Malaysia's economic growth and global trade enhancement. #MalaysiaPort #EconomicGrowth #GlobalTrade #LogisticsHub #AIIntegration #PortDickson #SupplyChain #JobCreation #ModernInfrastructure #SustainableDevelopment

When cranes fall, supply chains tremble! Keelung Port recently witnessed a major disruption when a Chinese vessel collided with a crane, sending it crashing down and damaging five containers. While no injuries were reported (phew), the incident halted operations at Piers 20 and 21, highlighting the vulnerability of even the most sophisticated ports. Here’s what we can learn from this: 1. Disruptions are inevitable: In the world of shipping, no matter how prepared we are, accidents happen. It's crucial to have contingency plans in place. 2. Insurance is a lifesaver: Fortunately, all damaged equipment in this case was insured. Always ensure your assets are well-protected. 3. Technology investments matter: The crane was being replaced as part of an upgrade. Ports must continuously invest in technology to minimize disruptions. 4. Communication is key: Swift, transparent communication with stakeholders (especially customers) during disruptions is crucial to maintain trust. 5. Resilience in supply chains: This incident underscores the need for flexible and adaptive supply chains that can weather unexpected challenges. As we aim to reduce such incidents, it's a reminder that progress often comes with growing pains. But with the right measures, we can keep things moving smoothly, even when the cranes aren’t. #ContainerShipping #Logistics #SupplyChainManagement #PortOperations #MaritimeNews #IndustryInsights #FreightForwarding #Sustainability #MaritimeInnovation #ShippingSafety

Since September 1st, Qingdao Port VGM declaration will usher in two new changes: 1. “Yungangtong” will be the unified entry platform. Export customers need to enter VGM on the platform of “Yun Gang Tong” (https://lnkd.in/g-PN4SGs), otherwise the containers will not be able to be delivered in the port! 2. The terminal will unify the weighing of containers and compare with VGM. When the container is delivered in port, the terminal will unify the arrangement of weighing. the GW exceeding the max load weight of the containers will not be allowed gate in. At the same time, the terminal will also compare the weighing with the VGM declared by the customer and notify the shipping company of the comparison result. If there is a big difference, we need to contact the corresponding terminal to correct the VGM as soon as possible, otherwise the containers can't load the vessel! #Qingdao #VGM #EMC #Gross weight #Philippines #Cambodia #Thailand #China #Freight forwarder #Evergreen Shipping
