Yesterday, the Australian Embassy in the Netherlands proudly participated in the fifth edition of Diplomat Magazine EU ‘Wine Extravaganza’ in The Hague. Australia’s wine industry was represented by 2islandwines, providing a glimpse of the rich world of Australian wine 🇦🇺🍷 Australia is home to some of the oldest vines in the world and is also one of the most innovative global winemaking countries. We challenge traditions and adopt innovations in growing and making wine more rapidly and more widely than many other countries. This includes our commitment to sustainability, with the Australian wine industry currently on track to reduce emissions by 42% by 2030.

Explore our Wine Route! The wine route in South America is a fascinating journey through centuries-old traditions. Argentina stands out with Mendoza as its wine capital, where Malbec reigns among the Andes. Chile shines with its valleys: Casablanca, Maipo and Colchagua produce exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon and Carménère. Uruguay surprises with its Tannat from family wineries along the coast, from Colonia to Rocha. Brazil innovates in the Serra Gaúcha with sparkling and red wines. Bolivia amazes with its high altitude vineyards in Tarija, the highest in the world. Paraguay, although with less tradition, is developing an emergent industry in Itapúa. Each country brings its own unique character, influenced by geography and climate, creating an oenological diversity unparalleled in the continent.

At the end of 2024, the City of Cape Town launched Wineland Wonders, a digital guide to the Western Cape’s wine destinations. More than 40 farms have been included across three significant winemaking regions: Constantia, Helderberg and Durbanville. ‘Our world-class wines represent a fantastic value proposition for both tourists and economic growth,’ says Alderman James Vos, Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth. ‘That is why I encouraged the department’s Tourism and Place Marketing Branch to develop this guide. It is about highlighting Cape Town’s rich wine culture and helping people explore our stunning wine farms.’ Several Vinimark Brand Partners such as Nitida Wine Cellars, Constantia Glen, Groot Constantia and Le Riche Wines are included in the growing list of wine tasting locations on the map. When spending a couple of days in a small hotel in the middle of a vinyard 🍇, I was enhancing my practical and theoretical knowledge of the Spanish wine industry 😉. Spain 🇪🇸, with its rich cultural heritage and diverse landscapes, has long been a cornerstone of the global wine industry. From the rolling vineyards of Rioja to the sun-soaked plains of La Mancha, Spain offers a tapestry of flavors and traditions that continue to captivate wine enthusiasts worldwide. 🥂 **Historical Significance**: Spain's wine history dates back over 3,000 years, with influences from the Phoenicians, Romans, and Moors. This long-standing tradition has evolved into a modern industry that respects its roots while embracing innovation. 🍷 **Diverse Regions**: Each Spanish wine region has its unique characteristics. Rioja, known for its robust reds, contrasts with the crisp whites of Rías Baixas and the celebrated sparkling wines of Cava. The diversity is astounding, making Spanish wines a delight for any palate. 🌍 **Global Impact**: Spain is one of the largest wine producers in the world, exporting to numerous countries. Its wines are celebrated for their quality and affordability, making them accessible to a wide audience. 🔬 **Innovation & Sustainability**: Modern Spanish winemakers are at the forefront of innovation, incorporating sustainable practices and advanced technology to enhance wine quality and environmental responsibility. Organic and biodynamic wines are becoming more prevalent, reflecting a commitment to sustainability. 💼 **Economic Contribution**: The wine industry is a significant contributor to Spain's economy, providing employment and supporting rural communities. Wine tourism is also booming, with visitors flocking to vineyards and wineries to experience the beauty and taste of Spain firsthand. #SustainableFuture 🍀

This week’s Europe 🇪🇺 , it's all about " Nordic wines". In Burgundy, this year’s vintage has been particularly challenging, but on the other hand, winemaking is quietly continuing to boom in the northern countries. In Denmark, where the average temperature has risen by 2°C over the past 50 years, milder winters and a longer growing season have led to an increase in wineries over the past 20 years, with approximately 150 producers currently active. In Denmark, the Solaris grape variety, which is suited for cooler climates, occupies more than half of the cultivated area. Many of the producers are small-scale farmers, selling their wines locally, though some have production levels reaching 20,000 bottles. Denmark is known for having a large number of Burgundy wine enthusiasts, but Danish wines are sold at prices almost equivalent to French wines. As a result, some local consumers find them somewhat expensive. This phenomenon, driven by global warming, is said to be occurring in Japan as well, and the map of wine-producing regions worldwide, including the Southern Hemisphere, is slowly being redrawn. https://lnkd.in/gBg-pJqa WINE no KAORI https://lnkd.in/gUAR248n

Today, I’m presenting my second paper at the 45th OIV - International Organisation of Vine and Wine Annual Congress: "Tourism and Services Diversification in the Global Wine Industry: Ten Stylized Facts." This research explores servitization in the global wine industry, analyzing data from nearly 5,300 wineries across 23 countries. The findings reveal that, despite the growing importance of integrating services like tourism and hospitality with core wine offerings, 40.2% of wineries report no service revenue, and 32.3% earn less than 10% from services. I identify ten stylized facts about servitization, highlighting key regional differences, the role of technological and human capital, and the challenges of translating services into revenue. Notably, wineries in New World regions show more advanced diversification strategies compared to traditional Old World producers. This study lays the groundwork for further exploration into how servitization can shape the future of the wine industry globally. #OIV2024 #WineResearch #Servitization #TourismAndWine #GlobalWineIndustry #HEG
