If you want to attract and retain top talent, you need to have leaders that care for and develop their people, and who are able to convey a purpose of their work that goes beyond the bottom line. Working with executive search, we at Alumni Global have developed the Alumni Sustainable Leadership model, which is our toolbox that makes it easier to quickly zoom in on the leadership traits that truly matter in this ever-changing world. Amongst one of the characteristics we look for are leaders with a competency for building strong authentic connections. Leaders who can formulate and communicate a vision that is clear and connects with people emotionally. They act with authenticity; daring to be vulnerable and show their true selves, matching their words with their actions, and having truthful conversations with others. They: ✔️ clearly translate vision and strategy into ambitious expectations and accountabilities ✔️ identify key messages and over-communicates these ✔️ make time regularly for honest, personal conversations where focus is to listen and understand the individual’s context and motivations ✔️ actively promote collaboration and act as a role model in this regard, e.g. by inviting diverse perspectives and encouraging cross-cultural/team collaboration ✔️ act as a role model in showing vulnerability and openness as a leader. Are these behaviours you recognise in your own leadership? Are they behaviours you even pay attention to, provide feedback on or maybe they are simply taken for granted? This competency – authentic connection – is one of four in a model we at Alumni have created that we call Alumni’s Sustainable Leadership Model. 🚀 Calling All Emerging Leaders: Are You Ready to Lead With Empathy and Influence? In today’s complex and fast-moving world, leadership requires more than just making decisions or managing outcomes. It demands connection—understanding the needs, challenges, and aspirations of those you lead. I’ve seen firsthand how empathy, often dismissed as a "soft skill," can be a leader's greatest superpower. It’s the key to building trust, unlocking innovation, and creating meaningful impact. Empathy transforms teams, organizations, and lives. That's why I’m honored to be the keynote speaker at The VALE's 3rd Annual Leadership Symposium—an event designed for young, ambitious leaders like you who want to make a difference in their organizations and communities. 🌟 In my keynote, The Courage to Connect: Leading with Empathy and Influence in a Complex World, I’ll share: ✔️ Lessons from global leaders like Nelson Mandela and Jacinda Ardern who led with compassion and strength. ✔️ My own journey of discovering the transformative power of empathy while leading multicultural teams in high-pressure industries. ✔️ Practical insights to help you connect, influence, and inspire—starting from Day 1. But this event isn’t just about listening—it’s about action. You’ll leave with tools to implement empathetic leadership immediately, driving results and building stronger relationships. 💡 Who should attend? This symposium is for young leaders who dream big, lead boldly, and want to create lasting impact. If that’s you, don’t miss this opportunity to join a community of visionary leaders shaping the future. Special shoutout to my current and former students at the Scuola Superiore per Mediatori LInguistici di Pisa! 🗓️ Date: December 1 (Sunday) 📍 Location: online 🎟️ Sign up here: https://lnkd.in/dd-ireK7 Let’s make 2024 the year you lead with both heart and influence. 🚀 Unlocking Potential: The Power of Developing Emerging Leaders 🚀 In the world we live in today, investing in the growth of our emerging and aspiring leaders isn't just a nice-to-have—it's non-negotiable! 🌟 One of our most popular professional learning offerings is our "Guiding Principles of Leaders and Teams": Emerging Leaders program Here's why: Consistent development over time beats "one-off" sessions every time. Those regular touchpoints create a compounding effect, building a stronger, more cohesive leadership team. The benefits of nurturing leadership talent grow exponentially with each strategic, well-timed interaction. Think of it as watering a garden. 🌱 One heavy downpour won't sustain growth, but regular watering ensures a flourishing garden. Consistency beats intensity every time. The same goes for leadership development. Consistent mentorship, coaching, and development opportunities lead to leaders who not only know about key leadership theories and philosophies, but can also take meaningful action to influence the positive mindset and skillset of those they lead. 👉 When thinking about how you will prioritise the leadership capacity building of emerging and aspiring leaders within your organisation, please commit to a strategic, long-term approach. The payoff? Adaptable, dynamic, and forward-thinking leaders ready to take on any challenge. It was such a great day today, spending time with 30 wonderful educational leaders at Pedare Christian College, discussing the importance of emotionally intelligent behaviour, and how to move beyond resilience and towards adaptability. #LeadershipDevelopment #EmergingLeaders #StrategicGrowth #ContinuousImprovement #FutureReady

Can you be a leader AND a people-pleaser? Being a leader is undoubtedly challenging, especially when you're someone like me who strives to please others. How do you strike the right balance of empathy and effective leadership when there’s so many gray areas to contend with? It’s not easy and it’s definitely not for the faint of heart. Lately, I've been reflecting on the complexities of communication. It can sometimes be a real struggle to get it right. And while I bring certain innate leadership qualities to the table, I've come to realize that relying solely on these traits isn't enough. To truly lead effectively, I need to continuously sharpen my skills and expand my leadership toolkit. That’s why I’m continually investing time into attending conferences, participating in coaching and peer mentorship opportunities, and getting involved in leadership development programs like ClearEdge Rising. Leaders must evolve just as the marketplace does. It’s a journey that can be both incredibly fulfilling and, at times, quite draining. And while I’ll still hold onto some of those people-pleasing qualities, I’m committed to this growth process and encourage others to embrace the ongoing development that leadership demands. Here’s to growing, adapting, and leading with purpose! #WomenInBusiness #WomenLeaders
