On Monday, the NAO issued an update following cancellation of HS2 Phase 2. Below is a visual reminder what was originally promised. 🚄HS2 is about capacity at its core, but the implications on improving connectivity cannot be ignored. 📈 The current proposals do not address over capacity on the WCML central spine between Handsacre and Manchester, which is already one of the busiest commuter routes in Europe. 🚊Extending the DLR🚊 As some of you may know, the ICE London, East of England & South East England has been leading a consultation on the DLR extension for Transport for London from Gallions Reach to Beckton Riverside and Thamesmead. https://lnkd.in/ed3ExnYF In this consultation process, you were given the opportunity to give your input and opinions towards this proposal. We thank you for all the responses we received. These have been fed into the consultation in which the report and results will be released in the following months. Below is a brief overview of the responses given by our committee (ICE London ECN) and the senior ICE London committee: 1. What should TfL consider so they progress with the project? (Whole lifecycle) To consider the social and environmental impacts, carbon impacts throughout its lifecycle, future connectivity options, value for money, e.t.c. As thinking points, please let us know if you have any comments on our proposals that would: 2. Help us to understand the impacts of our proposals on local people (whole lifecycle design to operations) 3. Help us understand the impacts of our proposals on you as a customer. Considering the short-term impact (possibly negative) for a long-term gain, new communities and job opportunities, better connectivity, challenges during the construction stages, strain on existing services, e.t.c. 4. Help inform our designs when we think about how our new stations could look and feel. Ensure that standard practices are included such as step free access. Each person was asked to select features they wanted to see and ranked them. Below is an image of the results. When asked about the type of retail space, they thought about coffee and groceries to go. A feature representing the heritage, culture and history of the area was not voted for as it is a nice-to-have and not an essential, however participants agreed that they would want to see it in some form, the same with parcel click and collect.
