How do local partnerships improve water security for our communities? 💧 We’re proud to partner with Eurobodalla Shire Council on the Southern Water Supply Storage project. This initiative is designed to secure the region’s water supply for years to come. 🌏 Project highlights: • 3,000ML storage, expandable to 8,000ML • 26ML/day river intake pump station • Use of local materials for construction Through our partnership with Eurobodalla Shire Council and SMEC, we’re delivering a project that balances community needs with environmental preservation. The #WaterStewardship space is moving fast! SCS Standards developed a certification standard for Water Stewardship and Resiliency It aims to 1. Stimulate nature-based and innovative technology solutions towards increasing water resiliency and resource management 2. Encourage organizations to engage with their surrounding communities, and 3. Promote transparency by communicating an organization’s impact on the environment and progress over time To incentivise leadership, their standard also has a special recognition for trailblazers in the following categories: Nature-Based Solutions Innovative Technologies Natural Habitat and Biodiversity Impacts Net-Zero Water Net-Positive Water  Water Circularity Water Quality  Community Development They just opened a public consultation, so if you'd like a sneak peak and offer some advice on how to shape it better, you can do so until April 26, 2024 You can request a copy of the standard by emailing: standards@scsstandards.org I just requested my copy and I'm curious to read more about it. The conference focused on sustainable resource management, improving service delivery, and enhancing community engagement in water conservation. Key discussions highlighted the integration of innovative technologies and partnerships to address emerging challenges in water accessibility and environmental sustainability. The objective will be to collate concepts, words and phrases that challenge the status quo, give a direction, and might resonate with different audiences including water industry decision-makers, ratepayers (residents and businesses), and community advocates. With Julian Fyfe and Karen Creagh we will consider what a future in which water is valued beyond a freely available, exploitable resource or a tradable commodity would look like. And how this value-shift might manifest in water policy, regulation, infrastructure, and servicing.  We will back-cast from this vision to determine how we help bring about such a future through communications and engagement. Co-created outputs will be used to inform WECAN’s future activities in this space. Following the event a brief AGM will be held to welcome in the new committee for the year ahead, with optional attendance from workshop participants.

September 16, 2024, marks 10 years of The Sustainable Groundwater Managment Act. Over the past ten years, the Greater Kaweah Groundwater Sustainability Agency has not only developed a comprehensive program to manage groundwater within the Kaweah Subbasin but has also submitted a Draft Groundwater Sustainability Plan (GSP) that continues to be revised and reviewed by the State Water Resource Control Board. We continue to support landowners with tools and resources to help them farm under reduced water allocations. Our efforts include programs such as the Land Fallowing Pilot Program, mitigation for domestic wells that have gone dry due to overdraft, and collaboration with other local agencies to address the needs of Central Valley communities. https://lnkd.in/gXx9VSYx https://lnkd.in/gmEnzymy

According to a study by the Free University of Berlin, this often led to ineffective and poorly adapted solutions. In contrast, indigenous communities, with their deep knowledge of stewardship and conservation, have developed practices that sustainably manage water resources and protect their environments. 💧 By involving local populations and valuing their traditional techniques, we greatly enhance our chances of long-term success in water management.
