Today, our Global Programmes team got the opportunity to join this year’s World Urban Forum in Cairo, as a member of ICAM (International Companion Animal Management Coalition), who are hosting an event today. It saw the launch of the Positive Cities Pledge — a pledge that seeks to acknowledge cities implementing sustainable and humane dog and cat population management. 🐶🐱 The event was joined by several local government representatives and featured inspiring talks from several of our Battersea grantees including The Cape of Good Hope SPCA and Zero Stray Pawject Inc. We congratulate Cape Town, Bangkok and Ilfiv County (Romania) who were amongst the first to sign the pledge. Their efforts make a huge difference in helping to manage dog and cat populations within their locations. 👏 The event has really helped shine a light on the need for a collaborative approach towards animal welfare. Together, we can achieve a better future for not only dogs and cats, but for people too, creating healthier and safer communities to live in. Our mission at Battersea to be here for every dog and cat means our work goes beyond our three centres. That’s why we support other animal welfare organisations, in the UK and around the world, with grants and resources to aid their crucial work which results in big change, like it has today. Together, we learn from each other, support one another, and ensure we’re all working towards a better future for cats and dogs everywhere. 💙 #WUF12

🐾 Transforming Compassion into Action: The Power of Marketing in Animal Welfare 🐾 In the heart of our community, organizations like the Ayesha Chundrigar Foundation (ACF) are pioneering a compassionate crusade for animal welfare. It’s not just about rescue missions or medical treatments; it’s a holistic approach that leverages marketing as a vital tool to weave stories of hope, resilience, and care that reach deep into our hearts. 🌟 Marketing for Awareness and Impact 🌟 ACF and similar rescue centers have harnessed the power of storytelling through digital platforms, captivating visuals, and heartfelt narratives to spotlight the oft-overlooked plight of animals. This strategic marketing does more than just raise awareness—it builds a bridge of empathy, urging the community to transform their concern into tangible support. 💡 Why It Matters? 💡 The challenges faced by animals—be it due to abandonment, abuse, or environmental hazards—are monumental. However, through effective marketing, organizations bring these issues to the forefront of public consciousness, advocating not only for rescue and rehabilitation but for a profound societal shift towards kindness and stewardship. 🌱 A Call to Care 🌱 This is more than a narrative of rescue; it's a call to action for each of us to consider our role in nurturing a more compassionate world. As ACF illustrates, marketing is not merely a business tool; it’s a beacon of change, illustrating the profound impact we can have on animal welfare when we choose to care, share, and act. #AnimalWelfare #MarketingForGood #AyeshaChundrigarFoundation #CompassionateCare #SocialImpact

Bhargsetu Sharma's journey from a compassionate animal lover to a full-fledged humanitarian started with a simple act of kindness. Growing up in Gujarat, her love for animals was nurtured by her family, but it was a heart-wrenching event in 2012 that sparked her mission. When she and her friends found abandoned puppies left to fend for themselves, they realized that every creature has a right to a life of dignity and care. In 2013, Bhargsetu founded ‘Humans with Humanity,’ a Facebook page dedicated to rescuing stray animals. What began as a small group has now grown into a nationwide network of 3,000 members. Together, they've rescued over 5,000 animals, including dogs, monkeys, and birds. “We see ourselves not just as animal welfare activists, but as humanitarians setting an example of kindness and compassion,” Bhargsetu explains. Her remarkable efforts were recognized on the TV show ‘MTV Roadies Real Heroes,’ where she became a powerful voice for animals. Bhargsetu’s message is simple yet profound: “Let’s unite in our journey to support both people and nature, striving for a better, more beautiful world.” #AnimalRescue #HumansWithHumanity #CompassionateLiving #StrayAnimals, #AnimalWelfare #KindnessMatters #SaveAnimals #AnimalRights #MakeADifference [ Animal Welfare, Rescue Missions, Compassion, Humans with Humanity, Stray Animals, Humane Society, Volunteer Network, MTV Roadies Real Heroes]

Empowering Change: Integrating Animal Welfare into CSR Strategies 🌟 In a candid discussion with TheCSRUniverse, Ms. Alokparna Sengupta and Ms. Navamita Mukherjee of HSI/India shed light on the transformative potential of increased corporate investment in animal welfare. 🐾 From pioneering policy interventions to aiding disaster-stricken animals, HSI/India has been at the forefront of championing animal welfare for over two decades. 💼 Yet, securing corporate support remains a challenge, with only 0.6% of India's CSR spending allocated to animal welfare—an incongruity that demands collective action. HSI/India has been at the forefront of addressing this gap, advocating for policy changes and strategic partnerships to enhance funding for animal welfare initiatives. From persuading the government to prohibit animal testing of cosmetics to mitigating human-animal conflicts during disasters, their work showcases the positive impact of corporate initiatives on both animals and vulnerable communities. Our mission is to improve the lives of farmed animals for the production of food for human consumption based on care and requirements determined on the basis of scientific data and the practical experience of the production sector. Animals raised under Certified Humane® standards and products certified by the program are already present in several Latin American countries such as Brazil, Chile, as well as India, Australia, the United States, Canada, among others. So when consumers see a product with the Certified Humane® seal on the packaging, they can be sure that the animal welfare requirements have been met. 🌎 So when you come across an animal welfare seal, check that the certification rules are transparent, that they can be accessed, that they have scientific backing, or that they are recognized in the market. #certifiedhumane #animalwelfare #seal #sustainability #greenwashing

If you ask some of my colleagues in The Greens/EFA in the European Parliament what the first thing is they think about when they hear "Tilly", the chances are high that it is animal welfare. 🐷🐰🐺🐙 Yes, I am the one who would bring up that topic at almost every Group meeting, making sure that our co-president Terry Reintke does not forget mentioning it when she gives a speech to Commission president von der Leyen and showing to people that this issue is about so much more than just cute animals; it reflects our values as a society. The last mandate promised change for farmed animal welfare in Europe. The Farm to Fork strategy heralded the revision of animal welfare legislation, with four proposals expected by late 2023. However, the disappointment came in December when only one proposal was released—on the welfare of live animals during transport—alongside another on cats and dogs. With the strategic dialogue on the future of agriculture in Europe urging the remaining proposals to be released by 2026,I am rather optimistic that it should be in the Commission's interest to act. Soon. In the coming month, I’ll be intensifying pressure to expedite these proposals, as millions of animals suffer daily. In September, we received encouraging news: the voices of millions of citizens have been acknowledged, and we will soon have a Commissioner for animal welfare. In the upcoming hearing with Varhelyi, I plan to rigorously question him to see if he is genuinely committed to advocating for animals. I’ll also continue fighting against animal testing in Europe and addressing the broader impacts of our society on all animals. This is not only important for the animals, but also for public health and for the environment. I want to make this mandate for animals! 🐾 #OneHealth #AnimalRights #AnimalWelfare
