Wow, what a cool name for a clothing brand! How did you choose it?" That's the question I've heard so many times whenever I've shared the name "Beryl and Kartel with people. And each time, I've had a story to tell—a story that explains why these words mean so much to me and my brand. Let me break it down for you. "Beryl" isn't just any old word—it's actually a type of gemstone. Yes, don't be surprised. It's known for being really beautiful and super tough, just like the clothes I wanted to make. When I thought about what I wanted my brand to stand for, I wanted it to be about making clothes that are not only stylish but also really well-made and long-lasting. That's why “#Beryl" felt like the perfect fit. And then there's “#Kartel." It's kind of a fancy word, but it's all about working together with other people. You know, like a team. And that's exactly what I believe in when it comes to making a clothing brand. I think the best stuff happens when different people come together and bring their ideas and talents to the table. So, when you put "#Beryl " and "#Kartel" together, you get a name that's all about making awesome clothes that are strong, stylish, and made with a whole lot of teamwork. So, yeah, that's why I chose the name "Beryl & Kartel" for my clothing brand. It's not just a name—it's a statement about what I stand for and what I want my clothes to be all about. And I hope that every time you see that name on one of my designs, remember that you are getting something that's not just fashionable, but reliable and well-made too. #BerylAndKartel #FashionStory #BrandNaming #CreativeJourney #ClothingBrand

Brands: The best way to market yourself is to lean into what already makes your brand great. Levi's is the perfect example of this. When we think of a pair of durable jeans, we think of Levi's. And how can Levi's help you keep your jeans even longer? By offering free tailoring for your denim. Not only that, but the Levi's Tailor shop also offers colourful fabric turn-ups and tapering to help customers get that bespoke look. The thing that has always made Levi's great is the fact that their jeans are meant to be worn for life. This is a piece of denim made to get you through everyday life - thick and thin. And offering alterations is an INCREDIBLE way to lean into that messaging.

The importance of a brand continually delivering on a promise of VALUE: I've worn Original Penguin clothes for years. Not one item of clothing has been a poor fit, or has fallen apart ahead of expected. Quality... But not quality at an extreme price. Style... But not too much of a statement. I might have the typical 'dad bod' and middle-aged taste, but I see that owners Perry Ellis International have struck the right balance between expected price, style, and quality. And more importantly, they've stuck to that promise. 🫵 Follow me. I help you and your brand succeed and grow. #branding #brandexpectation #businessstrategy

Rethinking Independent Fashion Brands in Today’s Market Running an independent fashion brand today is more challenging than ever. Stavros Karelis, founder and buying director of Machine-A, highlights the pressing issues faced by emerging designers. The fashion industry is grappling with global factors beyond our control, compounded by systemic failures that prioritize quantity over quality. To thrive in this landscape, independent designers must rethink their business strategies. Here are a few key considerations: 1. Focus on Unique Value: Emphasize the craftsmanship and distinctiveness of your products. Build a narrative that resonates with conscious consumers who value quality over quantity. 2. Sustainable Practices: Implement sustainable and ethical practices to not only differentiate your brand but also appeal to the growing market of environmentally conscious shoppers. 3. Embrace Digital Innovation: Utilize digital platforms for marketing and sales. An effective online presence can enhance brand visibility and engage customers directly. 4. Community Engagement: Foster a community around your brand. Building loyal relationships can lead to repeat customers and brand advocates. 5. Adapt Pricing Strategies: Avoid the trap of constant discounting. Instead, create value through exclusive collections or limited releases that maintain your brand's integrity. Navigating this landscape requires resilience and innovation. By focusing on these strategies, independent designers can create sustainable and profitable businesses. #FashionIndustry #IndependentDesigners #SustainableFashion #BrandStrategy #FashionEntrepreneurship

We have the same mother. No idea where I picked up that expression, but I use it a lot, mostly to describe like-mindedness. So when I read this piece about Saint Art and how the fashion brand uses experimentation to de-risk inventory investment and maximize sustainability, “we have the same mother” was my first thought. TL:DR Saint Art uses tiny runs of new designs—as small as 10 units—to test demand. Only when the brand has data demonstrating strong interest does it invest in inventory. The cost of this experimentation: high unit cost for those 10 units. The benefits: higher hit rates, less leftover inventory, higher profits. Why doesn’t everyone use experimentation to de-risk investments? Beats me. Part of it may be that the tools for experimentation appear limited: A|B testing, sampling, consumer panels. Most of them are narrow or contain some level of bias. I’ve been grappling with the problem of experimentation for years. With my team, I’ve developed ways to test not just tactics, like which new denim to debut, but strategies as well. While there is lots of talk about experimentation, its practice is pretty limited, which is why headlines like this one always catch my eye. Btw, while I would classify Saint Art’s experiments as tactical at the item level, the experimentation muscle the company has built is enormously strategic. Imagine being a prospective Saint Art wholesale account. Wouldn’t you rather stock a brand that has validated demand for every item before they ship to you? https://lnkd.in/eZrr6ksJ.
