Some very important messages here Goals: ‘performance goals’ tend to be set around the ‘the binary’….. eg ‘success and failure’ or ‘met and not met’. They have their place. They can lead to ‘comparator’ tendencies that are not helpful. They can lead to negative self-judgement. There are variables out of our control in meeting ‘performance goals’ and outcomes rarely define us as human beings! ‘Mastery goals’ linked to learning, growth and development, offer a helpful addition (or alternative) when setting goals. Regardless of the outcome we can look for the progress we have made through a process. Belonging: connection (not just through sport) to others, community, our own intrinsic drivers and motivations all offer a helpful point of reference when considering ‘Do I need this or want this?’. Curious as to 1) where these reflections take you? 2) what are you hearing in this video? #wellbeing #goals #coaching #leadership
“We belong here.” An incredible message from Jemima Montag, who won two bronze medals in racewalking at the Paris 2024 Olympics. When asked what she would say to young women and girls who are inspired by the Olympics, she told Australia’s 9News: “Play on. This journey isn't without its challenges. Particularly around the ages of 16 and 17, I certainly questioned my place on the sporting field." "It doesn't matter if you're doing sport for fun in the backyard, or whether you want to take it to this Olympic medallist level, sport is about community and a sence belonging, learning amazing life skills like dedication and leadership, which are all such great things for the next generation of women and girls." "Play on in whichever way suits you, we belong here."

Heads-up: it’s not just the Opening Ceremony of the Games that has men pretending to be women. This article describes the current sitation regarding trans-identifying males in various sports. As reported separately (in Reduxx), there will be at least two TIMs competing in women’s boxing: Algeria's Imane Khelif and Taiwan's Lin Yu-Ting. Notably, they were both disqualified from The Women’s World Boxing Championships last year, after tests, for "trying to fool their colleagues and pretend to be women”. However the IOC is run by soft-headed, weak-willed men so somehow they’re able to compete with women in the Games. I’d naively thought that boxing of all sports would draw a hard red line. But here we are. It’s no longer just cheating but exposing women to unnecessary risk to appease a very vocal and pushy minority group. I look back with a certain fondness at Games from the 1970s/1980s, when cheats from the Eastern Bloc at least had the decency to cheat discreetly. There’s a principle that says “If you’re going to lie, tell a lie so huge that people will think it must be true because it’s too big to be a lie”. I think the same mind trick is being used here. https://lnkd.in/dkrsWp72

If you get things wrong, apologise, fix it and make sure it doesn't happen again. If you apologise, make sure you're authentic. Unfortunately, Fortnum & Mason have struggled with that this week. After being called out for only invited Olympians to their celebration event, they said they'd apologised and would be arranging a separate event for the Paralympians. We're really here fortunate to work with, amongst others, organisations like Mencap, RNIB and Scope who organisations advocate for equality, equity and inclusion, but as we know, actions speak louder than words. That's why we do everything we can to make sure all potential learners can access our programmes, including learners with all types of disabilities and learning difficulties. The disparity between how Paralympic and Olympic athletes are treated is clear, and was shown by this story last week, highlighted by Zac Shaw. True equality means creating environments where everyone has access and opportunity, without compromise. Story linked below. #DEI #Equity #Equality

Last Saturday, the Copenhagen Wolves had the honor of hosting the Oslo Raballder team for an exhilarating match right here in Copenhagen! 🇩🇰 As two proud LGBT-inclusive amateur rugby teams, our game was not just about scoring tries, but also about promoting inclusivity and camaraderie. ⭐️ Reflecting on the match, it's clear how the values of teamwork and collaboration in the corporate world resonate deeply on the rugby field. 🏉Just like in business, success in rugby relies on effective communication, trust, and a shared goal. 📈 Every player brings unique skills and strengths to the team, and it's the collective effort that leads to victory. 🏆 However, our match wasn't just about sports—it was about making a statement. LGBT-inclusive rugby teams like ours are not just about playing a game; they're about creating safe spaces where everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, can come together, feel accepted and thrive. #Rugby #Inclusivity #Diversity #Teamwork 🏉🏳️🌈

I am honored to have shared my insights on the importance of female representation in sports coaching in a recent interview with the CEV. Reflecting on the Tokyo 2021 Olympics, where only 13% of the coaching staff were women, it is evident that we have a long way to go in achieving gender equality in sports leadership. As the first female professional beach volleyball player from Austria and a top 10 world-ranked athlete, I have seen firsthand the impact of having diverse perspectives within a team. Women naturally bring a more holistic approach to coaching, focusing on effective communication and fostering a supportive team environment. This approach not only benefits female athletes but also enhances the performance and cohesion of male athletes. In my current role as a mentor for the Austrian national beach volleyball teams, I have been able to bridge communication gaps and foster team spirit. It is crucial that we recognize and promote the value of female coaches. Implementing female staff is a forward-thinking move. International organizations should think about supporting and empowering female coaches, similar to the programs available for referees and transitioning athletes. By raising awareness and providing opportunities, we can ensure that more women bring their unique skills to the table, ultimately benefiting the entire sports community. I invite you to read the full article to learn more about this important issue: https://lnkd.in/eWyqhVAt #LeadershipInSports #WomenInCoaching #DiversityAndInclusion #BeachVolleyball #Mentorship #HolisticCoaching

🌟 Empowering Black British Girls in Sport: A New Dawn of Inclusivity and Opportunity 🌟 I am pleased to see Women in Sport partnering with national sports bodies to launch groundbreaking research on the experiences of Black British girls in sport. This initiative, in collaboration with organizations like British Cycling, England Netball, and the The Football Association, aims to uncover and address the unique challenges faced by Black British girls in their sporting journeys. Despite their enthusiasm and positive attitudes towards sport, Black British girls are among the least active groups, with only 35% meeting recommended physical activity levels. This research is crucial in bridging the gap between their passion for sport and the opportunities available to them. By understanding their needs and aspirations, we can create a more inclusive and supportive environment that encourages their participation and success. Key findings from previous studies highlight that 62% of Black British girls dream of reaching the top in sport, compared to 24% of their White British counterparts. However, many face barriers such as lack of access to outdoor spaces and feeling that sport lacks relevance to their lives. Addressing these disparities is not just about promoting physical activity but also about enhancing mental health, reducing health inequalities, improving resilience, and overall life satisfaction. This research will hopefully drive meaningful change across the sports sector, ensuring that Black British girls receive the recognition, resources, and opportunities they deserve. It is a step towards a future where every girl, regardless of her background, can pursue her dreams and thrive in sport and beyond. We know that sports leaders are likely to become business and society leaders too. 💪🏾🏅 #WomenInSport #BlackBritishGirls #Inclusivity #EquityInSport #Research #Empowerment https://lnkd.in/e4EnNi5w

Fundamentally and philosophically, this is the insane consequence of a global culture which has not only rejected but has disingenuously dismissed the Judeo-Christian worldview of true sexuality and the joyful freedom that results from its boundaries and practice. In addition, we live in a human culture that has overall rejected even the idea of absolute truth and morality. Right is “wrong” and wrong is “right”…in fact, there is no right or wrong…only one’s subjective opinion. This is no small observation. It has consequences- and Ike is those consequences is the insane premises of the Olympic committee to allow a MAN to cause unjustifiable injury to WOMEN in a sport that requires gender equity and equality. The audacity of this MALE BOXER in now attempting litigation to defend his “rights” is the surreal testimony of a culture gone rogue and dangerously steeped in arrogance. God help us ! And God help any woman who wants to compete fairly in such sporting events. The Olympic committee should resign in shame ! Rev. Timothy J. Mercaldo https://lnkd.in/eMfXhWwf
