Am starting a campaign for and with people with disability. As of now, Uganda has one of the most progressive laws for people with disabilities in the world. This states, among other things, that discrimination against people with disabilities is prohibited. Children with disabilities have the right to education and adults have the right to a job. 80% of all people with disabilities in the world live in developing countries. Life can present many obstacles for people with disabilities. These challenges lead to social isolation, poverty and reduced quality of life. However, amid these obstacles, Uganda is gradually transforming to become more inclusive. While there is still much work to be done, the progress made thus far can be an example for other countries and is a glimmer of hope for people with disabilities.#letsembracedisability #paradeforinclusivedisability #JinjaUganda#31/08/2024

#pwdaction # The event in the past week about a certain business and a PWD citizen has drawn a lot of attention. The Nigeria's Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act of 2018 marks a significant milestone in the country's commitment to ensuring equality and inclusivity for individuals with disabilities. The Act prohibits discrimination based on disability and promotes accessibility, inclusive education, independent living, community inclusion, and equality. It mandates that public buildings and facilities be accessible, promotes inclusive education, and empowers individuals with disabilities to live independently and participate in their communities. Despite its positive impact, challenges remain in implementing the Act fully. Many public spaces lack adequate accessibility features, hindering individuals with disabilities from accessing essential services. Read more: https://lnkd.in/d8eHPRyG

People with disabilities are often excluded from mainstream development, especially in developing countries, like Nigeria. Some causes of exclusion include subtle forms of discrimination, stigmatization, lack or limited access to social environment, deficient education and training, lack of enabling legislation, unemployment, inadequate benefits systems, overprotection and lack of public awareness, which all affect the ability of persons with disabilities to manage an independent life and strain the resources of their families. Also, the lives of persons with disabilities are very challenging given that families tend to “hide” or overprotect them, and have no or little expectations for their development, especially women with disabilities. Poverty and disability reinforce each other, contributing to increased vulnerability and exclusion. The majority of people with disabilities find their situation affects their chances of going to school, working for a living enjoying family life, and participating as equals in social life. On the other hand, poor nutrition, dangerous working and living conditions, limited access to vaccination programmes, and to health and maternity care, poor hygiene, bad sanitation, inadequate information about the causes of impairments, war and conflict, and natural disasters may worsen or lead to disability. The result of the cycle of poverty and disability is that people with disabilities are usually amongst the poorest of the poor and their literacy rates are considerably lower than the rest of the population. #PersonsWithDisabilities #PovertyAndExclusion #Inclusion #Crpd #DisabilityAct #Nigeria

``` **A Step Towards a More Inclusive Kenya** The Council, in partnership with the Council of Governors (COG) and UNICEF, recently concluded a series of engagements with county directors of social services and CECMs. The goal was to strengthen collaboration and develop a framework for disability mainstreaming at the county level. Executive Director Harun Hassan EBS emphasized the importance of county governments taking the lead in addressing disability issues, urging them to debunk the misconception that this is solely a national government responsibility. We are optimistic that this collaborative effort will lead to a more inclusive Kenya for persons with disabilities. #DisabilityRights #Inclusion #Kenya ```
