Wine Importers and Wine Import Trends in Canada 2024 When Canadians raise a glass of wine it’s mostly likely an imported brand and that’s partly because the domestic wine industry remains too small to supply one of the top 10 wine importers in the world. This is good news for the producers interested in the Canadian market, but the good news tends to stop here because working with the highly regulated Canadian wine importers can be a huge challenge, especially for smaller companies. https://lnkd.in/dgqjh9ah The Netherlands is the 6th largest wine importer in the world, an industrialized nation with a GDP of $1117 billion U.S. dollars, high purchasing power, and a very modest internal wine production. These factors created a diverse and mature network of wine importers and distributors that constantly adapt to the latest trends. With a record value of wine imports of USD 1.66 billion, the Netherlands is more attractive than ever as a wine market and more and more wine producers are trying to get a reliable wine importer or distributors in the European country.

Australian wine producers are taking on the challenge of re-engaging with the Chinese market now that the duties on Australian wine have been removed. However, it won't be an easy task as wine consumption and imported wine have both dropped by around 70% over the past 5 years. With a surplus of 450 million litres, the industry will have to either reshape the Chinese wine market or restructure their own industry. This decrease in wine consumption and surplus is presently the reality all over the world, and whatever happens with Australian wine can certainly happen to other wine regions. It's a pivotal moment for the Australian wine industry and the global wine market.

Australian wine production has reached a significant turning point, with white wine surpassing red wine production for the first time in 12 years. The latest Wine Australia report reveals total production at just over 1 billion litres - the second-smallest output in 17 years and 16% below the 10-year average. While white wine production increased by 20%, red wine saw a 2% decrease, reflecting strategic industry adjustments to address oversupply issues. Despite the reopening of the Chinese market and overall sales reaching 1.08 billion litres, the industry faces ongoing challenges with global wine consumption projected to decline over the next five years. Toast to this really great result for the Australian export wine market 🍷- an outcome driven by China warming back up to Australian wine, with booming value increases resulting from the Mainland China/Hong Kong markets, and a small but marked increase in export value to the UK. Conversely, the US/Canada reported a slight drop in value. This is a great reflection of how Australian exporters are right to focus increasing attention on regional neighbours in ASEAN/APAC to scale. #wine #Australianwine #beverageexports
