Australian wine producers are taking on the challenge of re-engaging with the Chinese market now that the duties on Australian wine have been removed. However, it won't be an easy task as wine consumption and imported wine have both dropped by around 70% over the past 5 years. With a surplus of 450 million litres, the industry will have to either reshape the Chinese wine market or restructure their own industry. This decrease in wine consumption and surplus is presently the reality all over the world, and whatever happens with Australian wine can certainly happen to other wine regions. It's a pivotal moment for the Australian wine industry and the global wine market.

Wine Importers and Wine Import Trends in Canada 2024 When Canadians raise a glass of wine it’s mostly likely an imported brand and that’s partly because the domestic wine industry remains too small to supply one of the top 10 wine importers in the world. This is good news for the producers interested in the Canadian market, but the good news tends to stop here because working with the highly regulated Canadian wine importers can be a huge challenge, especially for smaller companies. Toast to this really great result for the Australian export wine market 🍷- an outcome driven by China warming back up to Australian wine, with booming value increases resulting from the Mainland China/Hong Kong markets, and a small but marked increase in export value to the UK. Conversely, the US/Canada reported a slight drop in value. This is a great reflection of how Australian exporters are right to focus increasing attention on regional neighbours in ASEAN/APAC to scale. #wine #Australianwine #beverageexports

https://lnkd.in/dgqjh9ah The Netherlands is the 6th largest wine importer in the world, an industrialized nation with a GDP of $1117 billion U.S. dollars, high purchasing power, and a very modest internal wine production. These factors created a diverse and mature network of wine importers and distributors that constantly adapt to the latest trends. With a record value of wine imports of USD 1.66 billion, the Netherlands is more attractive than ever as a wine market and more and more wine producers are trying to get a reliable wine importer or distributors in the European country.

Australian Wine Industry Faces New Era of Challenges 🍇 The Australian wine industry is grappling with unprecedented challenges as global consumer preferences shift away from lower-priced commercial brands. Andrew Calabria of Calabria Family Wines warns that the situation has worsened significantly since the industry’s peak just three years ago. The sector, employing over 160,000 workers, is seeing major players like Treasury Wine Estates offloading commercial divisions, marking a critical moment in the industry’s history. 🍷 Industry turmoil has been exacerbated by China's 2020 tariffs on Australian wine, which decimated the once-lucrative export market. Although tariffs have recently been lifted, sales are unlikely to reach former heights. The global decline in wine consumption, particularly in the UK, coupled with an increasing focus on health and wellness, has left many Australian producers struggling to adapt. A shift toward premium wines and spirits is becoming the new norm, as consumers opt for quality over quantity. 💼 In response to these pressures, vineyards are being converted to alternative crops, and industry leaders are in discussions with the government for assistance. Despite the downturn in commercial wine, there is growth in rosé and upscale wines, with companies like LVMH and Pernod Ricard doubling down on these segments. As the market continues to evolve, the future of Australian wine remains uncertain, balancing between preserving tradition and embracing new consumer demands. #AustralianWine #WineIndustry #GlobalMarkets #PremiumWines #ConsumerTrends

CIATTI Company - June 2024 Global Market Report NOW available! 🌎🍷🍾🍇📈 The global bulk wine market reaches the midway point of 2024 with activity levels healthier than they were at the same stage of last year. This is owed largely to two factors: generic white wine is in something of a supply-demand balance, globally-speaking, following the short 2023 harvests in Italy and Spain and 2024 harvests in Chile and South Africa; and removal, in March, of China’s punitive import tariffs on Australian wines has quickly rejuvenated Australia’s red wine shipments. Australia’s bulk wine market has been experiencing positive activity levels, with large volumes of red wine – Dry Red, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot – having been allocated by a number of Chinese and Australia-based buyers. Entry-level red wine pricing has experienced a sharp increase in the past four weeks as stocks get quickly allocated to Chinese buyers. In the meantime, read on for detailed updates on each market below ⬇️ Ciatti Argentina CIATTI EUROPE #winemarketing #wine #wineindustry #opportunities #australia #winebusiness
