It may be a festive symbol of romance, but mistletoe has a darker side! It contains compounds like viscotoxins (small proteins similar to cobra venom), phoratoxins, and alkaloids, which can affect the gastrointestinal tract. High doses have been reported as harmful to human health - so it’s best to leave this plant for decoration, not consumption 💋🚫 Interestingly, mistletoe extracts have therapeutic uses too, helping to reduce the side effects of chemotherapy in cancer patients. What’s your favourite festive decoration? Let us know! And to keep track of all the previous advent days, please check out our dedicated webpage: https://lnkd.in/eBdXVFND #Mistletoe #ToxicologyTrivia #ChemicalSafety #FestiveFacts

O, O, O, Ozempic...Have you heard the catchy commercial for this new weight loss trend? You're likely to see the next stunning celebrity who used Ozempic to lose weight while scrolling social media after dinner. All you have to do is take this medication daily, and you can look like that? It seems so simple! I hate to be the bearer of bad news...but it's not. There’s no such thing as a miracle drug. What you don't see is the list of potential side effects that come with it. The common list of side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, constipation. More notably, Ozempic was found to cause thyroid cancer when tested in animals - it comes with the FDA's highest warning for usage. And if that's not enough... You have to keep taking it or you're likely to gain the weight back. Excuse me? I don't know about you, but none of that sounds worth it to me. It can feel like you've tried everything... So then, what else do you do? I created the Nourished Revival Free Couse to help you answer that question. You'll learn how to support the needs of your own body, so you don't have to keep feeling like nothing works. The answer to your problems is within you...I know it sounds totally cheesy...but it's also really cool. ICYMI: The recording of our recent webinar What's metabolism got to do with it? is now available. WATCH: https://lnkd.in/epYbBeyH Today, our best strategy to reduce SUDEP risk is to reduce seizures. Metabolic therapies are some of the earliest documented methods to effectively reduce seizures, but their use fell by the wayside with anti-seizure medications. Are metabolic therapies safe? Are they better than medication? How do metabolic therapies work? Join PAME and our moderator Dr. Kristina Simeone for a conversation about the mysteries and mechanisms surrounding metabolic therapies. Our two guest speakers are Dawn Martenz, a mom who will share her experiences using metabolic therapies for over a decade to treat her daughter with Dravet Syndrome, and Dr. Jeff Buchhalter, a physician-scientist who will share his experiences treating and studying metabolic therapies in the clinic. This webinar is generously sponsored by LivaNova.

Earlier this week we went over a deeper dive on nimacimab and CB1 inhibition in a presentation at a satellite event during #ObesityWeek2024 . There were three important takeaways: 1. Sufficiency of Peripheral Inhibition: Confirming that peripheral CB1 receptor inhibition alone is sufficient to drive significant weight loss. 2. Lack of any Necessity of Central Inhibition: Determined that targeting ANY central CB1 receptors is not necessary for weight loss and leads to unwanted side effects. Nimacimab achieves peripheral inhibition without central exposure. 3. Critical Role of Peripheral CB1 Receptor Inhibition: Nimacimab-driven peripheral CB1 inhibitor promotes: Significant dose-dependent weight loss; Fat mass loss with with lean mass preservation; glycemic control Thanks to our team Chris Twitty CSO, spearheading our R&D, Puneet S. Arora MD MS FACE our CMO, and Tu Diep our CDO, Bernie Hertel, Janet Kennedy, Sadhana Nath Rajeev, MBS, MSc and Sharad Kharé and Human Biography for pulling this event and production together!
Skye hosted a satellite presentation on Nov. 5th during ObesityWeek 2024. Discover how Skye's drug, nimacimab, stands out by achieving effective peripheral CB1 inhibition without central exposure (and its risk of neuropsychiatric adverse events), leading to powerful benefits: dose-dependent weight loss, fat mass reduction with lean mass preservation, and improved glycemic control. At #ASCO24, Bailey Nelson, MD, and team submit findings on the impact of whole pelvis radiation therapy (WPRT) on gut microbiota and chronic GI toxicity. The study highlights that patients with higher levels of Akkermansia muciniphila, a mucin-degrading bacteria, experience milder GI symptoms post-radiation. This discovery shows the potential for radioprotective gut bacteria therapies to enhance patients' quality of life. Read the full abstract: https://lnkd.in/gikMardV #CancerResearch #GutHealth

Cortisol is an essential hormone that has a wide array of bodily functions; ranging from lowering inflammation, regulating blood sugar and metabolism, to maintaining blood pressure. Testing Cortisol levels is an evaluation of adrenal function where high and low levels may indicate the presence of certain diseases such as Addison's Disease, Cushing's Syndrome, or the presence of a tumor. 🙀 Cortisol can be tested by itself or along with other VDI panels - and it's available on the Dry Serum Test Kit! 😺 Find out more at: 👉 https://lnkd.in/gh9gMkbY Test codes: 917, 918, and 919 #VDILab #Veterinaryscience #VetLab #Caninewellness #FelineWellness #Cortisol #VetMed
