🔒𝗖𝘆𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆: 𝗔 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵
With the rapid growth of connected medical devices, cybersecurity has become a 𝗻𝗼𝗻-𝗻𝗲𝗴𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆; cyberattacks threaten both sensitive patient data and patient safety, even risking the functionality of life-saving devices.
During the recent 𝗗𝗘𝗞𝗥𝗔 𝗖𝘆𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲🛡️, I had the privilege of joining industry leaders to address key priorities in MedTech cybersecurity. Together, we emphasized the critical need to integrate cybersecurity throughout the entire product development process 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗱-𝘁𝗼-𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲.
A cornerstone of this approach is the 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 (𝗤𝗠𝗦), which ensures that cybersecurity is not an afterthought, but rather a fundamental and systematic part of the entire product lifecycle 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁-𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴..
A well-implemented QMS helps identify vulnerabilities early, reduces risks, prevents costly recalls, and, most importantly, ensures patient safety. In parallel, 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀before selling medical devices on international markets is essential.
These regulations not only ensure that products are safe and cyber secure, but also promote the establishment of best practices from the outset.
𝗖𝘆𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 isn’t a one-time task—𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁.
From updating security protocols to monitoring devices post-launch, protecting patients and businesses requires ongoing vigilance.
I thank DEKRA Digital & Product Solutions for hosting this event and raising awareness about this critical topic.

DEKRA Cybersecurity Conference – Behind the Scenes: How integrating cybersecurity from the ground is key to building secure medical devices. 🔐
Developing secure, reliable and compliant medical equipment is essential to withstand possible cyber-threats and to provide excellent and secure patient care. ⚕️
During the DEKRA Cybersecurity Conference in October, we addressed the importance of complying with regulatory requirements before selling medical devices on international markets, not only to ensure that products are safe and cyber secure but also to establish good practices from the scratches 🔐
As our speaker Alessandro Vitiello, Managing Director in D.med Software, emphasized in our panel discussion about Medical Cybersecurity, “Cybersecurity activities should be considered from the very beginning and should be fully integrated into the development lifecycle of medical products”.
