There is exitement in the air! Blueyou's flagship program for integrated mangrove aquaculture, - SELVA SHRIMP -, has been selected as candidate in this year's FOOD PLANET PRIZE longlist! Blueyou's Selva Shrimp program in Vietnam and Indonesia promote regenerative, nature-based farming of seafood in combination with restoration of mangroves: Shrimp, crab, mollusks, and filter feeding fish are raised by small-scale farmers in intertidal zones where they thrive as part of the natural food web. This unique food system does not only supply local people and global markets with healthy, high-quality seafood, but captures carbon, raises biodiversity and increases the resilience of coastal communities! #foodplanetprize #selvashrimp #planetaryboundaries

With the global catch of cod being historically low, geopolitical risks and unpredictable events, alternative species versus other proteins is vital, so we do not lose market share. Australis Aquaculture is a global leader in tropical marine aquaculture and is the world’s largest vertically integrated producer and marketer of premium, sustainable Barramundi. Maris Seafoods Ltd are pleased to collaborate and market this nutritional powerhouse in the UK & EU, where awareness is growing rapidly, especially with younger consumers. Why – because Australis Barramundi is low in calories, high in omega-3s, high in protein, mercury free and antibiotic free. They operate State-of-the-Art Offshore Farming Technologies, where the fish are saltwater farmed, then harvested using the humane ikejime method. Australis are the worlds first in category Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC), Fair Trade USA and Monterey Bay Aquarium Best Choice, and are positioned to help operators and retailers attract frequent seafood consumers. Overall, global Barramundi aquaculture has shown remarkable expansion, increasing from 21,000 metric tons in 2000 to 168,000 metric tons in 2023, representing an impressive 800 percent growth over this period — making barramundi the fastest growing species over the past decade. To quote Jacques Cousteau – “We must plant the seas and herd its animals using the sea as farmers instead of hunters. That is what civilization is all about – farming replacing hunting.” #FairTrade #SustainableSeafood #AustralisBarramundi #ExclusivelyAtMaris #BRC #GFSI #BAP4* #Oceanwise #BSCI

I-Shrimp in West Kalimantan. Integrated multi Thropic Aquaculture promise for sustainable Blue Revolution. We can harvest vannamei shrimp, milkfish, and various kind of shrimp. Most important keep Mangrove in middle of pond as mother ecosystem. Mangrove is superb carbon, temperature control with trees of mangrove, rich zooplankton for nursery. and finally we got 1 ton/ ha shrimp with 20 count. hopely apply in all indonesia mangrove forest.

Sea Urchin "Raking" technique as an innovative and sustainable echinoculture method to produce "caviar" without sacrificing sea urchins. An interesting business concept. At first I thought it at odds with its "bulking" cousin where the urchins are removed from the wild say from an urchin barren, for example, and reared in tanks to then be sacrificed for their gonad roe, but the more I think about it more this process of raking represents another tool in the toolbox of options for economic echinoderm aquaculture. Say you have a urchin species in decline but its roe is popular cuisine, then raking could be an option. On the other hand let's say you have purple urchin barrens, then perhaps their removal from the wild to promote kelp recovery and the urchins bulking in aquaculture settings could present another economic option. #raking #bulking #seaurchins #roe #caviar #Universityofrometorvergata #lucafrosso #alessandrafianchini #stefanocataudella #arnoldrakaj

Committing to Positive Transformations in Red Sea Aquaculture We are deeply committed to fostering positive transformations in regenerative aquaculture within the vibrant ecosystem of the Red Sea. Collaborating closely with our partners, we strive to enhance seafood production and consumption while prioritizing environmental sustainability. Through innovative practices and strategic alliances, we aim to minimize our ecological footprint and contribute to the long-term health and resilience of this unique marine environment. Aquaculture is currently the world's fastest-growing food sector and accounts for over 50% of the total global seafood supply. Today, Topian, the NEOM Food Company, is committed to producing high-value, top-quality fin fish as competitive alternatives to imports. Utilizing state-of-the-art high-tech aquacultural systems, we are cultivating three carefully selected fish species with a focus on quality, market fit, climate resilience, productivity, and supply-chain consistency. Join us in shaping the future of sustainable seafood production! #NEOM #Topian #Aquaculture

The "What To Expect in Aquaculture in 2024" report, published by Rabobank, offers an optimistic outlook for the future of our sector. Global fish production is likely to grow steadily, with salmon leading the way. Sustainability is gaining more and more prominence, with the adoption of practices such as water recirculation and the use of alternative ingredients in food. The study indicates great potential for aquaculture to provide healthy, sustainable protein for the global population - just as Huon has been doing. #Huon #Aquaculture #Sustainability #Food

🐟 Seabream in Aquaculture: Unlocking Hidden Potential 🐟 Gilthead sea bream is a key species in European aquaculture, playing a vital role in both Mediterranean cuisine and the broader seafood industry. While seabream is a culinary favorite, its impact extends far beyond the plate, contributing significantly to the entire aquaculture sector. 🥗 🐟 However, despite its importance, much of the sea bream's side-streams—such as scales, gills, and bones—are still underutilized or discarded. These by-products hold immense potential for higher-value applications, including the production of collagen, gelatin, and bioactive compounds. #FOODIMAR is focused on turning this untapped potential into reality. With three innovative pilots, one of which targets seabream aquaculture side-streams in 🇹🇷 Türkiye, we're partnering with Tetis Biotechnology to explore ways to transform these by-products into high-value opportunities. Stay connected to discover how we’re pioneering innovative, cost-effective, and climate-friendly methods to produce premium marine collagen, gelatin, and glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) from #fisheries and #aquaculture side-streams, meeting the needs of both industry and consumers. 🌊🌱 Untapped resources from the sea 🌱🌊 #SeafoodSideStream #SustainableAquaculture #BlueFood #SBEP #BlueEconomyEU María José de la Peña SUBMARINER Network for Blue Growth EEIG Emre Yemisken

Global Food Systems need urgent Reform Integrated mangrove aquaculture offers a viable solution for degraded intertidal zones in the tropics: Multiple species of shrimp, crab, filter-feeding fish and bivalve mollusks are naturally raised in ponds which have been restored with mangroves. The mangroves provide shelter and food for aquatic species to thrive, creating a regenerative food production system that does not depend on any external inputs such as feed or fertilizers. This unique food system does not only supply local people and global markets with healthy, high-quality seafood, but captures carbon, raises biodiversity and increases the resilience of coastal communities! Blueyou’s continuous efforts and leadership in promoting and scaling-up integrated mangrove farming systems across Asia have been recognized by the Food Planet Prize – where Blueyou made it to the longlist of applicants for this year’s prize! 🧐 More than five years ago, a visionary group of shrimp producers in Ecuador decided to challenge the status quo of the aquaculture industry. Driven by concerns for the environment and social well-being, as well as the need to differentiate responsibly produced shrimp from Ecuador in international markets, they founded the Sustainable Shrimp Partnership (SSP) with a clear goal: to transform the way shrimp is produced and consumed globally. 🌎 🦐 👀 Read our story here: bit.ly/3OLg4EE #sustainability #shrimp #aquaculture #ecuador #innovation
