Kennedy International Airport (JFK) is gearing up to transform passenger screening with the new Terminal One, set to open in 2026 in partnership with K2 Security Screening Group. Here’s what you can look forward to: Revolutionized Security Checkpoints: The terminal will feature advanced Computed Tomography (CT) X-ray scanners that create high-quality 3-D images. This means fewer manual checks and faster movement through security lanes—all while keeping safety a top priority! Innovative Screening Technology: Thanks to K2 Security Screening, the new terminal will also utilize Advanced Imaging Technology (eAIT). This system detects both metallic and non-metallic objects under clothing, allowing multiple travelers to be screened simultaneously, boosting efficiency. Streamlined Identification: The integration of Credential Authentication Technology (CAT) will simplify the verification process. This tech validates credentials and identifies passengers needing extra screening, making the process smoother and quicker. The new Terminal One will cover 2.6 million square feet, replacing the old terminals and accommodating over 16 million passengers annually by 2030. More delays to the installation of the new CT scanners at UK airports. The FT states that the UK government has given an extension of up to 12-months for their installation and use. On balance, this was probably forced on the government as many airports were not in a position to meet the original 2024 summer deadline. Will this cause more confusion for passengers? Probably not, if there is good signage and comms. We have to remember that the airport at the other end of the route is unlikely to have the new CT scanners, so at present, this was a one-way benefit. Airports such as London City Airport and Teesside International Airport may attract more passengers as early adopters of the new scanners (and they deserve to do so!) but let's hope the rest of the UK airports catch up with them soon. #aviation #airports #airportscanners
