So - that exciting announcement. Bright Network has just hit 1,000,000 members! There is so much I could say to mark this incredible milestone, but the most important thing is... Thank you. Thank you to every single person that has been part of the journey so far... Every member. Every partner. Every person on the team. You have all brought something to Bright Network over the last decade that has helped us get to where we are today. We’ve created an unrivalled community that has changed the UK workforce. We’ve built a platform that brings together leading businesses and diverse students and graduates. In doing so, we’ve been able to improve social mobility, close skills gaps and level the playing field for graduates everywhere. Of everything we’ve achieved, it’s hard to pick out just a few things to mention here, but those that really stand out for me right now are: 🚀 A decade of delivering on our mission to connect the next generation with the opportunities, insights and advice to succeed as the workforce of tomorrow 🚀 Millions of personalised matches between students and leading employer partners empowered by our market-leading Early Talent Platform technology 🚀 300+ trusted relationships built with leading organisations seeking to connect with ambitious, diverse members and create a stronger, more inclusive workforce 🚀 Hundreds of thousands of members at our world leading events Thank you again to everyone, we couldn’t have done it without you. And the best thing is, we’re only just getting started... More to come on this milestone this week, including sharing the story behind our one millionth member tomorrow. #OneMillionMembers #CareerJourneys #IndividualStories #ImpactedLives #EarlyCareers

Misconceptions about necessary qualifications and the influence of education on career choices are significant factors deterring talent from entering the tech sector. Despite these barriers, there is a strong interest in tech careers. For those currently outside the sector, the top ranked motivating factors for switching to a career in tech were the higher than average earning potential, flexible or hybrid working opportunities and being offered additional financial support to pursue IT and technology training. Our new report in the #DrivingDigitalDiversity’ series looks at alternative routes into tech and what the industry can do to attract greater volumes of diverse talent. If you’re young and looking for a route into an exciting and rewarding career in UK tech, this will be music to your ears. Not only is the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) launching a drive to get more people, especially Gen Z, to sign up to its Digital Skills Bootcamps, but it has also published findings from @Barclays Eagle Labs and @Beauhurst that the skills offered can lead to average salaries exceeding £70,000 - two and half times the UK average. I’ve spoken a great deal about the importance of improving tech talent and diversity in the sector as it continues to struggle to meet its entry level talent needs to build a sustainable pipeline for the future. DSIT reports that employers continue to struggle to recruit entry level talent to match their growth ambitions, and our own @Nash Squared Digital Leadership Report continues to find every year that a lack of digital skills is leaving organisations struggling to keep up with the pace of change. As Technology Secretary, @Michelle Donelan explained in the announcement, it’s not just about the financial rewards. It’s also about working in a creative role where you can find yourself “solving the world’s most pressing challenges”. This echoes what I have been saying for many years. We really need to turn up the volume on how technology is anything but nerdish. In fact, I can’t think of a more creative, rewarding, and exciting career that can genuinely make a difference.

Following my poll from last week, the results highlight a growing concern about how age impacts career opportunities in IT. This, in addition to the recent article I read suggests the tech industry tends to favor younger talent, often overlooking the wealth of experience that seasoned professionals bring. I think addressing these biases will strengthen technical teams. #ageism #tech #IT

I am always proud to share our work at EnPoint, collaborating with partners to develop impactful experiences. Working with Nova Scotia Community College - NSCC and Dalhousie University, funded by the Business + Higher Education Roundtable we're supporting 600 #internationalstudents and 100 employers in fostering new relationships and career-building opportunities. It's all about building career confidence, connections, and skills. From #careerdevelopment workshops and employment boot camps to industry showcases where employers and students connect in person. The first showcase was last week! Students met colleagues and program organizers in person, practiced their “pitches”, and met employers including Nova Scotia Health Authority, EfficiencyOne, Ecology Action,(our other fabulous clients and #DEI champions) Ocean Allies, Halifax Partnership and RBC. Students enjoyed hearing directly employers why they are employers of choice! ( ✨ Employers if you’ve never had to give a pitch to recruits you could take some lessons from these folks! ✨ ) 👩🎓 Students: congrats for stepping out of your comfort zones and investing in your futures! As you know the EnPoint team is cheering you on as you pursue your career goals in #NovaScotia! 👨⚖️ Employers: thank you for showing your support and demonstrating that international students have a place in our organizations and communities in #NovaScotia. Your involvement sends a powerful message in today's climate. Plug: If you're an employer interested in getting involved in the second showcase, DM me or my amazing colleague Ashley Pinsent (or you can complete the form below). It's a great opportunity to learn from students, share insights about your company and sector and inspire international students eager to build their careers here. #futureofwork https://lnkd.in/ejCwTkux
