This week's session was themed: Green Economy and Sustainable Construction 🍏 💚 The essential aim of Green Economy is to integrate social growth into the economy and the ecological dimension of solution. Mrs Seyi Olarinde gave a mathematical equation for Green Economy which was stated as follows: Green Economy= Low carbon growth ➕ Resources Efficiency ➕ Social Industry. She further added that Green Economy aims to curtain three critical crises: - Socio-political crisis - Economic crisis - Ecological crisis she also mentioned the components, features, impacts and the Six fundamental principles that guide sustainable building. One of the highlights of the lecture was the extensive explanation she inculcated on the concept of Equity and Equality (See example in the DO attached). Conclusively, she gave examples of Green buildings around the World which the Heritage Place in Lagos State Nigeria is the ONLY standing example in Nigeria from her lecture. Thank you AIIDEV Africa for the Opportunity the Unlearn, Learn and Relearn 💯 #Teach4SDGsImpact #Aiidev #SDGs #SDGAdvocate

Strategies for economic growth and sustainable development in the Niger Delta region 1. Diversify the Economy:The region has long been dependent on oil as its primary source of revenue. Diversifying the economy involves promoting and supporting the growth of other sectors eg tourism, renewable energy etc 2. Support Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs): SMEs are the backbone of any economy. This can be done through the establishment of dedicated funds, business incubators, and mentorship programs. 3. Promote Human Capital Development: Investing in education and skills training is essential for creating a skilled and adaptable workforce. Improving the quality of education at all levels, promoting vocational training and apprenticeships, and supporting entrepreneurship education will equip individuals with the necessary skills for employment and entrepreneurship. 4. Encourage Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs): Collaborations between the public and private sectors can leverage resources, expertise, and innovation for sustainable development projects. Clear frameworks, transparent processes, and risk-sharing mechanisms are essential for successful PPPs. 5. Environmental Conservation and Sustainable Practices: The Niger Delta region is rich in natural resources, but their exploitation has often resulted in environmental degradation and pollution. Promoting sustainable practices, such as reforestation, waste management, and clean energy solutions, will help protect the environment, preserve biodiversity, and mitigate the impacts of climate change. 6. Strengthen Governance and Transparency: Good governance, transparency, and accountability are crucial for sustainable development. Strengthening institutions, promoting anti-corruption measures, and ensuring effective resource management will build public trust and attract investments. Regular audits, citizen participation, and public disclosure of information are important tools for enhancing governance. 7. Promote Peace and Security: The Niger Delta region has faced conflicts and instability due to various factors, including resource control disputes and socio-economic grievances. Promoting peacebuilding initiatives, addressing the root causes of conflicts, and providing economic opportunities for marginalized communities will create a conducive environment for sustainable development. 8. Foster Regional Collaboration: Collaboration among states in the Niger Delta region can leverage resources, share best practices, and address common challenges. Regional development initiatives, joint projects, and knowledge exchange platforms can enhance cooperation and coordination for sustainable development. 9. Monitor / Evaluate Progress: Establishing a robust monitoring and evaluation system is essential for tracking progress, identifying gaps, and ensuring the effectiveness of interventions. If we adopt these strategies wholistically EGASD in NDDR will be obtainable. #sustainabledevelopment# #NDDR
