I remember when I was in junior secondary school and being overwhelmed with the subjects I had to study. 🧠About 17 subjects in total and what surprises me now that I think of it is that, none of those subjects had anything related to the introduction to environmental studies nor its related topics. I wonder how it would have been if I was introduced to these topics earlier on in my academic journey. 📚Now that I know this, I strongly believe that education is one of the strategies to promote environmental sustainability and climate action in Nigeria. 📝This can be achieved by integrating the subject in the learning curriculum of the primary school till the tertiary school systems. 🌱The earlier students are aware of these pressing issues, the more engagement and avenue for innovative solutions to curb these issues especially in the vulnerable communities that are most affected. 🔑A key factor to ensuring that this is achieved is through collaboration and partnerships. #SDG17, Partnership for the Goals must be at the helm of this transformation because together, you and I can make a change that would last for generations to come. 💬What other strategies do you think can promote climate change and sustainability education? . . . #ClimateChange #Environmentalsustainability #ClimateEducation #SDG4

Nigeria’s government recognizes the pivotal role youth are playing in shaping the country’s future by supporting the implementation of Nigeria’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) and Long-Term Low-Emission Development Strategies (LT-LEDS). During the 2024 World Environment Day, World Resources Institute and GreenHubAfrica Foundation, in collaboration with the Youth Leadership Steering Committee (YSC), held a panel discussion on key environmental themes and the role of youth in Nigeria’s future planning. Building on these discussions, WRI is developing youth trainings on NDC & LT-LEDS priority areas to empower Nigeria's youth. These trainings are aimed at enhancing the knowledge and skills of youth climate champions on climate issues and sustainable practices. Modules will include trainings on climate negotiations and policy analysis, grant writing and climate finance tracking, energy access and just transition, green entrepreneurship, and climate change and health. I'm not so sure about posting this but... Open Call to Nigerian Universities and Researchers Globally, universities drive sustainability research, influencing policies and funding for impactful climate projects. Yet, Nigeria, despite being disproportionately and heavily impacted by climate change, contributes little to this critical discourse. This is an open call to: 1. Researchers in sustainability within the African context to connect. 2. Nigerian universities interested in creating a center for sustainability research. I’m willing to help establish or support such a center or join a community addressing these challenges. Let’s amplify Africa’s voice through evidence-based solutions. If this resonates, please connect or reshare to help spread the word. #SustainabilityResearch #ClimateAction #Collaboration Image source: https://lnkd.in/ecrpn9XQ

As a Climate Reality Leader trained by former US Vice President Al Gore in 2021, my dedication to environmental sustainability has flourished. For the past three years, I have been a catalyst for a positive change among the Kebbi State's youth. I have inspired secondary school students through advocacy sessions, Radio and TV talks, and coordinated tree-planting campaigns that have produced and distributed over 21,000 tree seedlings. To drive substantial change, I recognized the importance of staying informed about the latest climate insights. This thirst for knowledge led me to participate in the intensive 'Youth Environment and Climate Leadership Training.' This program, organised by GreenHubAfrica Group in partnership with the World Resources Institute and supported by Nigeria's Federal Ministry of Environment, covered crucial topics like Climate Negotiations & Policy Analysis, Climate Change & Health, Climate Finance & Grant Writing, Green Entrepreneurship, and Just Transition & Energy Access. Throughout the five-week training, I immersed myself in these critical areas, refreshing my expertise and equipping myself with innovative strategies to address Africa's urgent environmental issues. My journey showcases a steadfast commitment to climate action and continuous growth. As a committed Climate Reality Leader, I am ready to utilize this newfound knowledge to: ✓ Enhance youth involvement in climate decision-making ✓ Promote sustainable entrepreneurship and the growth of a green economy ✓ Support climate-resilient healthcare projects ✓ Advocate for inclusive energy access and fair transition policies Special thanks to the dedicated course facilitators; Dr. Constance Omawumi Kola-Lawal PhD. and Dr. EUGENE Itua. You have undoubtedly demonstrated command of the topics. I invite everyone to join me on this journey towards a climate-resilient future. Together, let's nurture a world where environmental stewardship and sustainable progress flourish! #environment #climatecrisis #climatechange #climateaction #climateeducation #circulareconomy #climatejustice #climatefinance #climatenegotiation #justtransition #energyaccess #sustainableenvironment #sustainability #cleanenergy

🌍 *Thrilled to share with you my recent Commitment to a Sustainable Future* I recemtly had the opportunity to deepen my understanding of climate issues through the "Negotiations on Climate Change for Young African Negotiators" course offered by IDEP - African Institute for Economic Development and Planning (UNIDEP). This three-week intensive learning experience, which I completed early thanks to its self-paced format, resulted in a 90% score. This enriching journey enhanced my understanding of the climate change challenges in Africa and the solutions we can implement, focusing on adaptation and mitigation. The course comprised three essential modules: 1️⃣ *Module I: Introduction to Climate Change* - Delving into the real impacts and potential solutions. 2️⃣ *Module II: Financing Climate Initiatives* - Examining financial mechanisms such as the Green Climate Fund and ensuring equitable resource access for developing countries. 3️⃣ *Module III: Monitoring, Evaluation, and Inclusion* - Emphasizing the inclusion of youth and women in climate decision-making processes. Thanks to this training, I feel more equipped to actively engage in climate negotiations and influence environmental policies in my country. Every action, big or small, can contribute to a sustainable future. A big thank you to CEA/IDEP for this valuable training. Together, we can drive positive change! #ClimateChange #Sustainability #ClimateNegotiations #Africa #Commitment #ProfessionalTraining #YouthLeadership #CEA/IDEP
