This past week, we gathered at the beautiful Cleveland Yachting Club to honor the extraordinary caregivers who go above and beyond to make a difference in the lives of others. The highlight of the day? Celebrating Anita Lechner, our 2024 Busch Caregiver of the Year! At 98, Anita continues to inspire with her decade of volunteer work at Gentiva Hospice, embodying dedication, energy, and humility. Congratulations to Anita and all our amazing Busch Caregiver Award recipients from this past year—you remind us of the profound impact caregivers have every day.

Building Stronger Teams with Evidence-Based Psychology (and a Little Fun!) 😊 Don’t just take our word for it — see Income Generation Director Kate Goldring's post below 👇🏽👇🏾👇 Last week, we had the privilege of bringing the entire Income Generation team from St Gemma’s Hospice together for their third away day, expertly facilitated by our founder, Paula Louise Dixon With a focus on collaboration, learning, and fun the session was grounded in evidence-based psychology to equip the team with practical tools to boost resilience, optimism, and connection. It’s always rewarding to see the power of psychology come to life when teams are learning and laughing together! 😁🎉 Ready to elevate your team’s development? Let’s chat about how we can create a transformative experience for your charity using the link below. #CharityDevelopment #TeamGrowth #PositivePsychology #Resilience #Facilitation #EvidenceBased
Yesterday saw the amazing bunch of people who make up the central St. Gemma's Hospice Income Generation team come together. We had an excellent day with a big focus on communication and collaboration. A huge thank you to Paula Louise Dixon for expertly facilitating the morning session, Kerry Jackson OBE for taking us into the afternoon, Stewart Graham, Nicola Woodgate and Jane Kent for their support and of course the brilliant Wellington Place for hosting us for the day. This is the third time we’ve had a team day, an annual event, and I can honestly I am so proud of how far this team has come. Loads to celebrate but lots of challenges ahead. Thank you all for your energy, enthusiasm and smiles.

Many people think #hospice is for the final days of someone’s life which, of course, it is. However, it is available six months or sometimes even longer before a person passes away. They provide support, supplies, guidance, counsel, and more for the patient and #caregivers. Their service is invaluable and the comment we hear most often is “I wish we knew what they did sooner.” #caregiving #caregiversupport #dementia #caregivingjourney #longtermcare #eldercare #disabilitycare #healthcare #endoflifecare #endoflifeplanning #endoflife
One year ago today, President Carter entered hospice care. This is notable for a few reasons: -Former President Jimmy Carter is the longest living U.S. President and the first known to utilize hospice care. -While in office, the Carter administration tested hospice care as a model, which led to the Medicare Hospice Benefit we know today. -The average Length of Stay for Medicare patients in 2021 was 92 days, and the median was 17. -In 2021, 6% of hospice patients received care for 365 days or more. -President Carter is receiving the same hospice care that is available to all Americans under the Medicare Hospice Benefit. Thank you, President Carter for lighting the way for all of us. https://lnkd.in/eCQZ4f3b

If you want something in the world to improve, start doing better; even if you must invent it, set the standard. Once it's set, dedicate the rest of your life and work with others to build it up and keep improving it. "What you sow into the lives of others is the harvest you will reap tomorrow." Anonymous. Carrie Hyde, MD, thanks for sharing the original post. The true meaning of life is to plant trees under whose shade you do not expect to sit. ~ Nelson Henderson. Someone's sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree long ago. ~ Warren Buffett. The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second-best time is now. ~Chinese Proverb. Even if I knew the world would go to pieces tomorrow, I would still plant my apple tree. ~Martin Luther. The creation of a thousand forests is in one acorn. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson. On the last day of the world, I would want to plant a tree. ~W.S. Merwin "While in office, the Carter administration tested hospice care as a model, which led to the Medicare Hospice Benefit we know today. President Carter receives the same hospice care available to all Americans under the Medicare Hospice Benefit". ~ The Hospices Action Network. You reap what you sow. What you work for is what you will get. Do not expect to get success if you do not do what needs to be done. You reap what you sow: Life is like a boomerang. Our thoughts, deeds, and words return to us sooner or later with astounding accuracy. ~Grant M. Bright. You reap what you sow, not something else but that. An act of love makes the soul more loving. A deed of humbleness deepens humbleness. The thing reaped is the very thing sown, multiplied a hundredfold. You have sown a seed of life; you reap life everlasting. ~ Frederick William Robertson Whatever you do today is directly proportional to what will happen tomorrow. So, sow what you reap. ~ Anonymous The person who sows generously will also reap generously. ~Anonymous #leadershipexcellence #integrity #compassion #kindness #healthcareadvancement #medicaid #medicare #medicareadvantage The moral of this post: Plant the trees. If you plant well, you will reap generously.

In our latest episode, we speak with Chairman of the Board for Living in Dying, POSLT and hospice educator, Arnetta Robinson. People think about living well, but have you considered dying well? What would it look like if you had it your way? We spend time planning the important moments in our lives- weddings, births of our children, but what about the last moment of your life? Lean in to the gift of hospice.

I never expected to become a caregiver, but it has been life changing. Honestly, I believe I'm better for it. But, it works best with community. I'm thankful #Birmingham has organizations like Prismm Technologies and Moxi to support us and those for whom we care. #caregiving Here is a brief story about how caregiving has helped me in my leadership journey: https://lnkd.in/gNi87NGz
We had a great time at the Caregiving Summit today, presented by Prismm, discussing the challenges and opportunities around solutions for the sandwich generation who's caring up and down. Founder Cori Fain-Forrest said "Yes, motherhood was going to change my world, but I didn't expect a waitlist to change my world...the systems aren't designed for us, it's not you, it's just hard..." about her inspiration to build Moxi. Thanks to fellow panelists Ed Fields and Sarah McMillan for an engaging conversation on how the City of Birmingham is creating innovative solutions for its residents, and to Martha Underwood for hosting this event!
