Start Up Loans Company creates stable revenue for North Wales animal behaviour business Rachel Phillips founded her Colwyn Bay-based animal behaviour consultancy, Rachel Phillips Behaviour, earlier this year. It specialises in positive reinforcement techniques to address behavioural challenges in both dogs and horses. Are you a giver, a taker or a matcher. Brian May is a giver. #badgers 🦡 are an emotive topic but watch this to see how being a Giver can change outcomes, for everyone, for the better no matter how difficult or entrenched the problem may seem. Givers, in the words of Prof Adam Grant focus on contributing to others without seeking anything in return. They might offer help or assistance, share knowledge, or make valuable introductions. They want everyone to succeed. But Brian admits he hasn't always operated as a giver. Brian and his co-founder of animal sanctuary The Save Me Trust, Anne Brummer were fundamentally opposed to the badger cull. But a few years ago they realised that, despite the overwhelming evidence in their favour, their campaign was not "winning" the argument, nothing had changed, not for cows, badgers or farmers and we were spending millions of pounds a year on culling animals, including thousands of healthy badgers. That's without even considering the devastating impact of slaughtering animals on the farming families. They had a fundamental rethink and decided to adopt a different approach, to work with, not against, the people on the other side of the argument. To be true givers. To focus on helping, not winning. Together with pioneering vet Dick Sibley and the Reed family who own Gatcombe Farm in Devon and via an introduction from the NFU (National Farmers' Union) they went back to basics. I won't spoil the programme for you but just to say that 💩 has a lot to answer for! Brian's #humility and #honesty is inspiring and the way the team works together for a shared outcome is wonderful 👏 Are you a giver, a taker or a matcher? Grant's research indicates that most of us are matchers (56%) you know, what goes around comes around? But actually if we could strive to be high functioning givers we could achieve so much more. He founded "The Street Vet." A nonprofit organization, moving away from a traditional practice, to walk the often unforgiving streets of the unhoused to treat their pets. …overlooked places like Los Angeles’ skid row, and downtown San Diego. His mission? To provide compassionate veterinary care to the pets of the homeless, entirely free of charge. His motto? No judgement, just help. This remarkable journey of empathy and dedication does more than just mend the wounds of animals; It touches the hearts of their owners and restores faith in humanity for those who witness his work. Dr. Stewart's profound passion and selflessness have not gone unnoticed, earning him the well-deserved CNN Humanitarian Hero of the Year award recently. (In fact, his selflessness is so overwhelming that he split his $100k prize money ten ways, equally with the other nine finalists up for the award!) Dr. Stewart's story is a powerful reminder of the impact one individual can make by choosing compassion over comfort. He is a living example that true fulfillment and purpose are found in the service of others, especially the voiceless and vulnerable. The LMA Bloodstock/Livestock Committee has released an updated version of the commercial equine policy wording for the USA, replacing the previous LMA3065B. This updated document, LMA3178, includes minor adjustments to conditions, formatting and simplified language, in line with recent changes to other equine wordings.
