Innovation in Queensland’s Biomedical industry sector is expected to multiply in the near future with the growing demand for targeted therapies.   Good thing Queensland’s biomedical sector is thriving 🤩   Queensland’s innovation pipeline and biomedical ecosystem is encouraging innovative bio-based start-ups, investors, and researchers to maximise the opportunities created by the growing global bioeconomy.   The state is home to a network of world class key biomedical research and manufacturing precincts and over 130 research organisations involved in biomedical research and development.   Next week Queensland Treasury, Queensland Health and Department of State Development and Infrastructure will represent the Queensland Government with Life Sciences Queensland Ltd (LSQ) and Trade and Investment Queensland at AusBiotech 2024 in Melbourne to meet with industry and talk more about Queensland’s exciting biotech future. #Qldbiotech #AusBio24 #Biomedical | Image courtesy of WearOptimo.

🚀 As we stand on the brink of a transformative era in drug development, the timing couldn't be better for the BioMelbourne Network #BioForum on “Advancing Non-Animal Models in Biomedical Research.” This event aligns with the aims of the FDA Modernisation Act 3.0 (https://lnkd.in/gc_auWeM) – a bill that introduced in the US House of Representative on February 6 and aims to push the U.S. FDA to implement the FDA Modernization Act 2.0. This law passed at the end of 2022 and introduces a process for the qualification of nonclinical testing methods to reduce and replace the use of animals in nonclinical research, improve the predictivity of nonclinical testing methods, and reduce development time for therapeutic candidates. 🌍 Globally, biotech, pharma and regulatory bodies are shifting towards more reliable, humane, and cost-effective testing methods. This shift promises to deliver therapies that are not only better and safer but also more accessible to everyone. Moving from academia to industry redefined Sean Keng Rui Chia’s approach to research, allowing him to develop a diverse skill set and gain valuable experience in the process.   “I tend to have a more pragmatic perspective nowadays, as I’ve learnt to focus not only on identifying theoretical solutions, but also on figuring out how they can be practically translated to real-world applications,” shared Chia, who currently works as a Senior Scientist at the A*STAR Bioprocessing Technology Institute (BTI).   His interest in the health and medtech ecosystem led him to the Singapore Biodesign (SB) Innovation Fellowship, which was established in 2018 to train the next generation of healthtech innovators in Asia.   Reflecting on his experience as an SB Innovation Fellow, Chia said: “One of the biggest takeaways for me was learning about the business aspects of health and medtech, such as market sizing, intellectual property and regulatory affairs.”   Follow the link below to read the full interview by A*STAR Research 👇 --- #scicomm #science #technology #STEM #research #innovation #ASTAR #HHP #biotherapeutics #biologics #healthcare #industry #Singapore

She says the government will protect government investments in research and development "to unlock these growth industries of the future" with more than £20bn of funding. The chancellor adds it will include at least £6.1bn to protect core research funding for areas like engineering, biotechnology and medical science.
